    Get PDF
This study extends the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to examine the intention of KAFA teachers in Kedah to participate in cash waqf. Cash waqf, a form of Islamic endowment, plays a crucial role in socioeconomic development, yet participation remains low in Malaysia, particularly in Kedah. The study investigates four key determinants (attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control, and religiosity) affecting waqif intention. A quantitative research approach was adopted, utilizing a structured questionnaire distributed to KAFA teachers in Jitra, Kedah. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis to determine the relationships between the independent variables and waqif intention. The findings reveal that religiosity and attitude significantly influence the intention to contribute to cash waqf, whereas subjective norms and perceived behavioural control have a moderate impact. These results highlight the need for enhanced awareness programs, improved institutional trust, and digital platforms to facilitate cash waqf contributions. The study contributes to the academic discourse on Islamic finance by providing insights into behavioural factors influencing cash waqf participation, particularly among educators who play a pivotal role in shaping community values

Waqf has long been recognized as a crucial instrument in Islamic social finance that was viable in supporting socio-economic growth. Despite the vast potential of waqf assets in Malaysia, their utilization remained suboptimal. Additionally, significant social and economic gaps persisted, particularly in the rural regions of Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. This study explored the role of waqf in supporting social empowerment in Malaysia, identified key challenges hindering its optimal utilization, and proposed strategic solutions to overcome these challenges and enhance its impact. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with stakeholders from key waqf institutions in selected states in Malaysia using a qualitative-exploratory research approach, while secondary data were also used to complement the findings. The findings highlighted that waqf had an impact on the enhancement of society’s welfare through primary sectors, including social benevolence, education, health care, and socio-economics, while also reducing dependency on government funding. However, the utilization of waqf was highly influenced by the economic conditions and social needs of each region, where economically constrained regions tended to allocate waqf for religious functions and basic socio-economic needs. Furthermore, the benefits of waqf were still hindered by various structural and operational constraints. To address these challenges, this study suggested increasing public awareness and developing a waqf funding system through cash waqf. By optimizing the role of waqf in social empowerment, Malaysia could promote inclusive development for society and ensure sustainable prosperity for future generation

The optimization of ruminant feed with local ingredients using linear programming

    Get PDF
The high cost of feed is a major factor that reduces profit margins in ruminant farming, primarily due to the reliance on imported feed pellets. However, various locally available ingredients present cost–effective alternatives that can still meet the nutritional requirements of ruminants. This study aims to create a cost–effective goat feed using local ingredients through Linear Programming (LP). The objective is to find the cheapest feed mix that still meets all the nutritional requirements. Eleven local ingredients from Kedah and Perlis were chosen for their availability, cost–effective, and nutritional value. Using Excel Solver, a LP model was formulated and solved to meet key nutrient needs for ruminants, specifically dry matter, crude protein, calcium, and phosphorus. Nutrient composition data for each ingredient were collected from The Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI). The results show that a balanced feed can be formulated using local ingredients, reducing reliance on imported feed and supporting sustainable farming in Kedah and Perlis. The LP model found an optimal solution using just two local ingredients, petai belalang and napier grass, that fully meet all nutritional needs. This approach resulted in a 72% reduction in feed costs compared to current commercial options. This research offers a practical solution for local farmers, enabling the production of ruminant feed at a lower cost and thereby enhancing profit margins. As a result, this contributes to improved food security, economic resilience in rural communities, and a more sustainable livestock industry

The effect of morphological intervention on EFL students' morphological awareness, vocabulary knowledge and listening comprehension

Despite the increasing importance of listening comprehension in Chinese university students’ English learning as a foreign language (EFL), their listening proficiency is much lower compared with reading and writing skills. Abundant research show that this problem is largely due to inadequacy of their vocabulary knowledge. One potential strategy of vocabulary development is conducting morphological intervention. Additionally, morphological awareness helps to process and comprehend the spoken discourse because phonological, syntactic, and semantic information are carried in morphemes. This study aimed to investigate the roles of morphological intervention on EFL university learners’ morphological awareness, four measures of vocabulary knowledge (written vocabulary breadth, written vocabulary depth, aural vocabulary breadth, and aural vocabulary depth), and listening comprehension and how these four measures of vocabulary knowledge mediate between morphological awareness and listening comprehension. An experimental group (n = 32) and a control group (n = 32) of second-year business English majors in a Chinese university participated in this quasi-experimental quantitative study. Only the experimental group received ten sessions of morphological intervention. Both groups sat for the pre and post-tests to collect data analyzed by SPSS version 27 and Smart PLS 4.0. Findings of MANOVA analysis of the pretests and posttests indicated that morphological intervention was successful in improving EFL university students’ morphological awareness, four measures of vocabulary knowledge, and listening comprehension. The findings of PLSSEM analysis showed that the four measures of vocabulary knowledge collectively and significantly mediated the relationship between morphological awareness and listening comprehension. Specifically, both aural vocabulary breadth and depth functioned as individual and significant mediators, while written vocabulary breadth and depth did not show such mediating effects. The study suggests that teaching morphology plays a significant role in enhancing EFL university students’ written and aural vocabulary and listening comprehension. Hence, the study could serve as a base for future morphological interventions

Job satisfaction plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency, motivation, and retention of healthcare professionals particularly within the demanding landscape of Malaysia’s public health sector. Despite its importance, healthcare workers often contend with adverse working conditions, including excessive workload, elevated job stress, and compromised work-life balance, all of which may erode their overall satisfaction and professional engagement. This study investigates the influence of job stress, workload, and work-life balance on job satisfaction among healthcare personnel, with a specific focus on physicians, nurses, medical officers, and assistant medical officers serving in public health clinics across Perak. Drawing upon the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Theory and Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, the study adopts a quantitative, cross-sectional design, surveying 200 respondents through stratified random sampling. Statistical analysis using SPSS version 29.0 revealed that both job stress and workload significantly and negatively predicted job satisfaction, whereas work-life balance emerged as a strong positive predictor. The study’s findings underscore the urgent need for health system stakeholders to implement strategic interventions aimed at mitigating workplace stressors, redistributing workload equitably, and promoting work-life integration to sustain employee well-being and organizational performance. However, the study is limited by its cross-sectional nature and regional scope, which may constrain the generalizability of results across other healthcare contexts. Future research is encouraged to adopt longitudinal and mixed-method approaches, expand the geographical coverage, and examine additional psychosocial and organizational variables to deepen insights into job satisfaction dynamics among healthcare professionals
