An enhanced integration of fuzzy measure and convolutional neural network for multimodal sentiment analysis
Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) is an evolving field in Natural Language Processing (NLP) that extends traditional Sentiment Analysis (SA) by analyzing opinions and emotions across multiple modalities, like video, rather than relying solely on text. The challenge of MSA lies in interpreting complex relationships within and across these diverse data types, referred to as intra- and inter-modality dynamics. While recent advances in machine learning (ML), particularly deep learning (DL), have improved MSA’s performance, handling the dynamics across multiple modalities remains a significant obstacle. A key limitation is the inability of current approaches, such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), to fully understand and leverage these complex dynamics. The study addresses the challenge of understanding modality dynamics in MSA using a fuzzy strategic approach, particularly the Choquet fuzzy integral. The methodology involves using CNNs to extract features across multiple modalities and integrating a fuzzy integral strategy (Choquet) to enhance interpretability and feature ranking. Benchmark datasets—including RADVESS, SAVEE, MOSI, and Chest X-Ray—were utilized to evaluate the model. Key procedures focused on integrating CNN with the Choquet fuzzy integral for improved feature importance ranking and feature pattern interpretation. The study found that the Choquet fuzzy integral significantly enhances CNN’s ability to handle complex, crossmodal relationships, improving sentiment analysis accuracy. The fuzzy integral approach allowed for a 33% improvement in feature extraction capability and an 18% reduction in model parameters compared to baseline models, indicating enhanced performance and efficiency in handling MSA tasks. The study contributes to MSA by integrating the Choquet fuzzy integral with CNN-based models, offering a novel integration that enhances interpretability and feature ranking and effectively handles intra- and inter-modality dynamics. The findings suggest that the Choquet fuzzy integral technique can be effectively applied in NLP to enhance the performance of DL models, particularly in multimodal contexts, contributing practical insights for developing more robust sentiment analysis models in real-world application

Exploring leadership styles of leaders in relation to the homestay programme perfomance in Langkawi
A homestay programme is one of the initiatives taken by the government through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to improve the lifestyle and the economic progress of the rural population. The programme managed by local leaders serves as a platform for villagers to generate side income by selling local products, besides introducing the village and its surrounding natural beauty to tourists. However, the existing homestay programme operators face several obstacles in generating lucrative income due to programme inactivity, thus resulting in their withdrawal from the programme. This has become a challenge for programme leaders in ensuring the success of the programme and in gaining continuous support from programme hosts. As such, this study identified the leadership styles of homestay programme leaders in managing and influencing hosts towards a successful implementation of homestay programme in Langkawi. This qualitative study deployed the purposive sampling techniques to capture feedback from a host of respondents involved in three active homestay programmes in Langkawi, namely Desa Wang Tok Rendong Homestay. Kampung Padang Lalang Homestay, and Pulau Tuba Homestay. In total, thirteen respondents (ten hosts and three leaders) were interviewed based on a semi-structured format to gather primary data. The secondary data, which comprised of relevant supporting documents, were analysed. The results revealed that cooperation and networking, use of resources, tourist arrivals and total programme income are some success indicators of the homestay programmes in Langkawi. A number of challenges faced by the participants when implementing the programme were identified. The leadership styles practised by the leaders of the three homestay programmes were linked to their vision, decision-making process, and leader-host relationship. With the cooperation received from MOTAC, the Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA) could organise more leadership courses for homestay hosts. In addition, technology courses are available to encourage the participants to use technology as a medium to digitally promote the homestay programme. These initiatives offer vast opportunities and platforms for various parties, such as MOTAC, INFRA, homestay programme leaders, and programme hosts, to work together in ensuring the success of homestay programme, particularly in Langkawi and generally in Malaysi

The impact of Institutional Quality on Poverty, Income Inequality and Unemployment in Sub-Saharan African Countries
Despite numerous policies and initiatives implemented by Sub-Saharan African countries to address developmental challenges such as poverty reduction, income inequality, and unemployment, these issues persist as significant obstacles to progress in these countries. The limited success of these efforts underscores the critical importance of examining the role of institutional quality in achieving these development goals. This study investigates the impact of institutional quality on poverty levels, income inequality, and youth unemployment in Sub-Saharan African countries. Utilizing secondary data spanning from 1984 to 2018, the research employs the advanced second-generation estimation technique developed by Driscoll and Kraay. The findings reveal that strong institutional quality arrangements reduce poverty and income inequality in Sub-Saharan African countries. Corruption exacerbates poverty, while improved bureaucratic quality, government stability, and overall institutional quality contribute to poverty reduction. However, stronger law and order and increased corruption are associated with higher inequality, whereas government stability, democratic accountability, and overall institutional quality help mitigate it. Additionally, various institutional factors, including corruption, bureaucratic quality, government stability, democratic accountability, and the institutional quality index, positively correlate with youth unemployment. The governments and policymakers of Sub-Saharan African countries should design and implement robust policies to enhance their institutional frameworks. Furthermore, national policies should explicitly incorporate pro-poor strategies in economic growth, trade openness, and financial development. Establishing a credible policy framework that bolsters institutional arrangements is essential to support economic development and effectively address the persistent challenges of poverty, income inequality, and youth unemployment in Sub-Saharan African countries. This study aligns with the institutions-augmented Solow growth theory, stating the vital role of institutional arrangements in achieving sound economic developmen
