Determinants of muslim entrepreneurs dilemma in Malaysia halal certificate application
A dilemma is a situation where there is difficulty in making a choice on something. This is because there are obstacles or factors that influence the decision maker to choose something that is the best for himself. Therefore, this study aims to explore the determinants of Muslim entrepreneurs dilemma in Malaysia Halal Certificate application. Malaysia Halal Certificate is an official documents stating the halal status of product or service according to the Malaysia Halal Certification scheme issued by JAKIM. Malaysia Halal Certificate is highly demanded by entrepreneurs in order to expand the market size by making the consumer more confidence on their products and services. The demanded for the application on Malaysia Halal Certificate is influenced by development of the halal industry and also the increasing demand for halal products from Muslims and non - Muslims. However, the Malaysia Halal Certificate application processes and procedures including several stage before the applicant is approved and given permission to use Malaysia Halal Certificate. This study is done used a qualitative methodology. Eleven informants who are Muslim entrepreneurs from the food premise category has been interviewed in order to collect the data for this study. Data gathered was analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that in general, there are several factors that cause dilemmas among Muslim entrepreneurs in Malaysia Halal Certificate application. One of the possible reasons to explain this finding is due to the insufficient of information on Malaysia Halal Certification. Therefore, this study is hopefully will be able to contribute to a better understanding in the dilemma of Muslim entrepreneurs on Malaysia Halal Certificate application. It also will be able to help in guiding the relevant authorities to help Muslim entrepreneurs on having Malaysia Halal Certificate
Factor affecting occupational stress among waste management workers of the northern region
The prevalence of occupational stress has been a crucial issue to waste management workers in developing countries such as Malaysia. Some previous studies have come out with the factors that impact on the waste management workers. This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of occupational stress and the relationship between job demand, workplace environment and social support with occupational stress among the waste management workers of the four states of northern region (which are Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perlis). This study was applying the quantitative method by distributing questionnaires consisting of
40 items comprising instruments measuring job demand, workplace stress, social support and occupational stress to the 368 respondents from the Majlis Perbandaran and Majlis Bandaraya. The result reveals that the job demand contributed the highest significant impact to occupational stress. Moreover, there
is a significant relationship between social support and occupational stress. However, there is no significant relationship between workplace environment and occupational stress. As such, in managing occupational stress, this study proposes the implementation of flexible working hours, appropriate equipment and reviewing their daily tasks for better quality of wor
Relationship Between Growth, Profitability And Stock Returns Amongst The Non-Financial Companies Listed On FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI
Based on the Signaling Theory, strong financial performance exhibited by public-listed Companies will convey positive signals about the companies’ future financial performance. Investors would respond to the positive signals by increasing the demand for the companies’ Stocks, which in turn drives up the stock prices of those companies. This study has Examined whether stock returns would respond to signals conveyed by revenue growth, Earnings growth, and changes in profitability. The sample involved in this study amounted To 22 non-financial companies listed on the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI from 2013 to 2019. The panel data regressions were used to analyse the relationship between stock returns, Revenue growth, earnings growth, and changes in profitability. The results indicated that Only earnings growth convey meaningful signals that influence stock returns. On the other Hand, revenue growth and changes in profitability are unable explain the variation in stock Returns amongst the non-financial companies listed on the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLC
Impacts of climate change, policies and adaptation technologies on rice productivity across agro ecological zones in Nigeria
African countries have the lowest food productivity compared to other regions of the world. Particularly important is Nigeria’s rice sector, which although currently the largest producer in Africa yet it is still a major world importer. This is largely attributed to the low productivity of rice which varies across six Agro Ecological Zones (AEZs) that marks the boundaries in terms of climate, soil and vegetation types. In the phase of high food insecurity and environmental concerns, improving productivity is considered a more sustainable approach. This study assessed multiple dimensions of climate factors (carbon dioxide, rainfall, temperature and flood); adaptation of technologies (irrigation and dummy of National Adaptation Strategies and Plan of Action on Climate Change in Nigeria (DumNASPA)) and policies (trade policy, corruption and government stability) as rice productivity determinants across AEZs. Data collection covers six AEZs from 1980 to 2018. After a series of diagnostic test, the unit root test, the cross-sectional dependence test and the Hausman test, the panel Autoregressive Distributive Lag (ARDL) model particularly the pooled mean group (PMG) model was used to examine the long-run and short-run impact of factors in the model. The long-run result revealed that, three climate factors (carbon dioxide, temperature, and rainfall) and irrigation capacity have a positive and significant impact on rice productivity. Trade policies and corruption were also positive and significant. In the short run, the impact of the factors varies across AEZs in Nigeria. While, based on the long-run PMG result, the positive effect of climate change factors, irrigation capacity, and import tariffs supports the increase in rice productivity. Interacting corrupt practices with fertilizer usage indicated a positive effect on rice productivity. This practice will actually increase production costs and in turn reduce the profits of paddy farmers. Therefore, policy making should consider the significant factors in each AEZ
Pengukuran kemiskinan dan kemudahterancaman: Kajian kes di mukim Jeneri dan Sik, daerah Sik, Kedah
The use of the Poverty Line Income (PGK) indicator in poverty reporting in Malaysia means that poverty is only observed in terms of income. The accuracy of this measurement is doubtful when the national poverty rate was recorded around 15 percent only in 2016. The issue of poor households will continue to be inherited if the reality of household in poverty is not identified. This study aims to estimate poverty using both unidimensional approach (PGK) and multidimensional approach (MPI); and further identify the main determinants of poverty. This study also analyzes the factors of poverty vulnerability, namely the issue of low-income households at risk of becoming poor. The research design of this case study uses primary data collected through a face-to-face interview with a total of 378 respondents in Mukim Sik and Mukim Jeneri, Sik District, Kedah. The application of multidimensional poverty measurement methods is found to observe broadly the aspects of deprivation such as imperfect housing, lack of food, no changing clothes, lack of education and severe health conditions. The poverty measurement analysis found that the MPI method showed a higher rate than the PGK threshold method. The most significant determinants of poverty are education level, health status, educational dropout of household members and psychological factors. The findings of the poverty risk analysis state that households that are not poor today have a probability of becoming poor in the future. Indicators of the number of dependents, area of land ownership, level of health, level of education and income of the head of the household indicate a significant negative relationship with poverty vulnerability. Meanwhile, types of gender of the head of the family, the acquisition of financial resources and the home condition present a significant positive relationship with the poverty vulnerability. The study concludes that the government not only needs to review poverty measurement methods in line with the cost of living, but also emphasizes an orderly and transparent social protection system. Emphasis on the educational aspect among the younger generation can prevent recurrent incidents of poverty
Intra-organizational communication practices and strategies for total quality management in manufacturing organizations
The general axiom which implied that total quality management (tqm) acts as the ‘engine’ of an organization, while effective communication is the lubricant which ensures the smooth running of the engine must be clarified and understood in the theoretical and practical contexts. this study aims to explore the forms, mediums, practices and strategies of intra-organizational communication within Malaysian manufacturing organizations, as there is scarcity of sources that are available for this topic, particularly in relation to the Malaysian industrial context. a pareto analysis of literature reviews had been done in order to select the most related critical factors and to narrow down the scope of the research. then, a pilot study was conducted which involved four managers, representing one local organization and one foreign organization in order to get a preliminary view and to improve the instruments developed. finally, in actual study phase qualitative data was collected involving five large scale manufacturing organizations which two of them are local organizations, the other three are foreign organizations which two of them are from eastern origin, and the other one from western origin. semi-structured in-depth interviews and nonparticipant observations had been done. fourteen managers and quality steering committee informants representing the five organizations had participated in the semistructured in-depth interviews. raw data was transcribed using “meaning for meaning” transcription and thematic analysis. the findings revealed the effective practices of intra-organizational communication and three communication strategies that are common to the participants’ respective organizations. in general, this study agrees with and supports the information richness theory by daft, lengal and trevino, and also the organizational communication theory of te’eni. furthermore, this study had successfully clarify and substantiate the elaborations on the complex critical success factors of tqm such as enhancing commitment, teamwork and involvement, while increasing the effectiveness of leadership, training and motivation for manufacturing organizations by practicing specific types of effective intra-organizational communication strategies. thus, the intra-organizational communication (mediums, practice and strategies) are also one of the critical success factors of tqm and should be taken into account in its implementation
Awareness and perception towards Islamic Crowdfunding as a financing mechanism among start-ups
Start-up companies have difficulties in accessing finance from the financial institutions due to lack of collateral, lack of credit history and high-interest rate. Islamic crowdfunding is one of the alternative financing that can be considered to increase the financing options available. In considering Islamic crowdfunding, it is important for entrepreneurs to have awareness and knowledge on the existence of this alternative financing. This study was conducted to examine the level of awareness and perceptions of start-up companies in Malaysia towards Islamic crowdfunding. In addition, the study also aims to identify the relevant models that entrepreneurs of startup companies would like to engage. Data is analysed using descriptive and Structural Equation Model, (SEM). This study was carried out by using primary data, a survey questionnaire was distributed to 396 start-up companies in Malaysia. The results indicate that most respondents show low level awareness of Islamic Crowdfunding as an alternative financing mechanism. However, based on perception results, most respondents have a positive perception in considering Islamic crowdfunding to finance their business. These results suggest that there is a need and opportunity to raise awareness among start-up companies by authorised government-related bod
The relationship between salary, fringe benefits, promotion opportunity, supervision, and job satisfaction among Royal Malaysia Police
Job satisfaction is not a new issue in Malaysia include for the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP). Job satisfaction is one way to establish and maintain a healthy organizational structure; it will give a potential impact on work attitudes such as job performance, productivity, and
organizational commitment. The agency of RMP, like any other public sector organization, needs to develop and maintain a strong relationship with its human resources in order to effectively perform crime fighting and service provider roles. There are many factors that led to low performance among the officer in RMP. This study will provide the fundamental knowledge for police top management or policymakers to improve employees’ job satisfaction and further, it will implement necessary changes to extend officers' job
satisfaction levels, which successively provide better services for citizens. The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationship between the independent variables (salary, fringe benefit, promotion opportunity, and supervision) and the dependent variable (job satisfaction). The analysis was based on data from 350 RMP members (respondents) in Melaka. This finding suggests that salary, fringe benefits, promotion opportunity, and supervision all play important factors in employee job satisfaction. The recommendations for the related finding as well as the study's limitations were also discussed
Acceptance usage of telemedicine during and post Covid-19 pandemics in Malaysia
During Covid 19 pandemics, people having difficulties to enter healthcare facility as the risk of having covid 19 infection is very high. Due to that reason, the use of telemedicine seems to emerge as people need to get consultation from healthcare personnel to enable them to stay healthy. A study conducted to see the acceptance of Malaysian local to accept the use of telemedicine in private hospital in Malaysia. A data then collected from two main private hospital in Johor Bahru where 217 questionnaire distributed to the respondent and about 200 questionnaire were answered to make the conclusion to this study. The main objective of this study is to analyse the relationship of the acceptance usage of telemedicine in Malaysia between perceive usefulness, perceived ease of use and facilitating condition. This research study using the applicability of TAM with additional variables to look at the adoption of telemedicine services in Malaysia.. From the study conducted, it revealed that there is a positive relationship of acceptance usage of telemedicine in Malaysia with the perceive usefulness, perceived ease of use and facilitating condition. This study offer valuable
information for policy makers and the stake holder in implementing telemedicine service
A new framework in improving prediction of class imbalance for student performance in Oman educational dataset using clustering based sampling techniques
According to the Oman Education Portal (OEP), data set imbalances are common in student performance. Most of the students are performing welI, while only small cases of students are underperformed. Classification techniques for the imbalanced dataset can yield deceivingly high prediction accuracy. The majority class usually drives the overall predictive accuracy at the expense of having abysmal performance on the minority class. The main objective of this study was to predict students' performance which consisted of imbalanced class distribution, by exploiting different sampling techniques and several data mining classifier models. Three main sampling techniques - synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE), random under-sampling (RUS), and clustering-based sampling were compared to improve the predictive
accuracy in the minority class while maintaining satisfactory overall classification performance. Five different data-mining classifiers - J48, Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbour, Naïve Bayes, and Logistic Regression were used to predict the student performance. 10-fold cross-validation was utilized to minimize the sampling bias. The classifiers' performance was evaluated using four metrics: accuracy, False Positive (FP), Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC), and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC). The OEP datasets between 2018 and 2019 were extracted to assess the efficacy of both sampling techniques and classification methods. The results indicated that the K-Nearest Neighbors combined with the clustering-based sampling technique produced the best classification performance with an MCC value of 98.4% on the
10-fold crossvalidation. The clustering-based sampling techniques improved the overall prediction performance for the minority class. In addition, the most important variables to accurately predict student performance were identified by utilizing the Random Forest
model. OEP contains a large amount of data and analyses based on this large and complex data can be useful for OEP stakeholders in improving student performance and identifying students who require additional attention
