Tax compliance is a degree of obligation of taxpayers towards the rule and regulations of taxes which free from any involvement in tax avoidance or tax evasion activities. In Malaysia, tax collection is one of the main incomes revenue to govern the country. Recently, the tax collection seems decrease due to tax compliance gap. Previous studies are focusing on the corporate tax, SME’s or combination with personal income tax. As less attention was given specifically to personal income tax research, the current study has been conducted to examine the relationship between the perception of taxpayers on justice, tax rate and tax penalty towards the personal income tax compliance. There are two theories used in the study which are Fiscal Exchange Theory and Economic Deterrence Theory reflecting the variables. There are seventyfour returned questionnaires that measured the perception of taxpayers on justice, tax rate and tax penalty towards personal income tax compliance. The findings reveal that there is positive and significant relationship between justice and tax penalty with tax compliance. While then, tax rate has negative relationship with the tax compliance

The relationship between digital marketing, customer relationship management and service quality on brand equity

Building a strong brand with significant equity provides a host of benefits for business organizations. Understanding the sources and outcomes of brand equity provides managers with information how and where brands add value. While the brand equity associated with tangible goods has received a great deal of attention in the literature, a basic understanding of the nature of brand equity for services has yet to emerge. Most of what is known about brand equity for services is based on theoretical or anecdotal evidence. In addition, the presumed differences in brand equity associated with search-dominant, experience‐dominant, and credence‐dominant services has yet to be empirically examined. This study adopted the Theory of Customer-Based Brand Equity (CBBE) as an underpinning theory for its assumptions and to develop its model. The objectives of this study is to empirically test whether brand equity is influenced by digital marketing, customer relationship management (CRM) and service quality. A quantitative methodology was adopted. The data were based on online survey conducted among Jawwar Telecommunication company subcribers in the Gaza city, Palestine resulting in 150 respondents. Data were analyzed using correlation and multiple regression analysis in SPSS version 22. The results revealed that all the hypotheses were supported, indicating that digital marketing, CRM and service quality significantly influence brand equity. The results suggest that focusing on the constructs that create brand equity is more relevant to managers than trying to measure it as an aggregated financial performance outcome. This study offers theoretical and practical contributions for academics and professionals. The limitations of the study have been addressed and some valuable suggestions for future research work are offered

The development of emotional intelligence (EI) conceptual model for construction project management

    Get PDF
The construction industry in Malaysia has proliferated in the past three decades. However, the cost and time overrun rates in construction projects have never decreased. Previous literature has proven that project managers are important figures in construction project management, and this study looked at the influence of emotional intelligence in project managers on the success of construction projects. In this context, emotional intelligence is defined as an individual’s ability to recognise their own emotions, distinguish between different feelings, use dynamic information to guide thoughts and behaviours, and adapt emotions to the environment. The Goleman emotional intelligence model was chosen as the basis of this research because it is simpler and has been refined over the years, making it more popular among renowned corporations globally. This qualitative research conducted two rounds of data collection. The initial round of data collection distributed the Genos EI questionnaire to 141 project managers via snowball sampling and then for primary data collection, interviewed 10 project managers based on the first-round survey results to gain insights on the theoretical elements of emotional intelligence practised in project management. The results of the study, analysed using Nvivo11, found little difference with the current theory of emotional intelligence. Of the 18 elements in the Goleman model, 16 were acceptable to respondents with some modifications. This study found out that the emotional intelligence of the project manager is an essential factor that should be considered in reducing excessive time in project management, and the element in the original model has differences from the finding of this study. It is therefore worthy of a newly developed emotional intelligence model specifically for use in construction project management. This will help business owners, policymakers and governments plan their strategies to improve construction project management, successfully

The relationships between job crafting, idiosyncratic deals, internal locus of control, psychological empowerment, and work engagement among Pakistani academicians: a moderated mediation model

    Get PDF
This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of psychological empowerment on the relationship between job crafting, idiosyncratic deals and work engagement among academicians of Pakistani public universities. This study also examined the moderating effects of internal locus of control on job crafting–psychological empowerment and idiosyncratic deals–psychological empowerment relationships. The motivational process of job demands-resources (JD-R) theory was used to underpinned the study framework. A cross-sectional survey using the simple random sampling technique was carried out to elicit responses from the participants. Using an online survey, 324 useable responses were obtained which is 53.33% response rate. The data analysis was conducted using the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicated that both job crafting and idiosyncratic deals have a significant positive relationship with work engagement. Likewise, psychological empowerment partially mediated the relationship between job crafting, idiosyncratic deals, and work engagement. Interestingly, internal locus of control did not moderate the idiosyncratic deals–psychological empowerment relationship but did moderate the job crafting–psychological empowerment relationship. Counterintuitively, the relationship between job crafting and psychological empowerment became stronger when internal locus of control was high. Further, internal locus of control enhanced the indirect effect of job crafting on work engagement through psychological empowerment. However, the indirect effect of internal locus of control on the relationship between idiosyncratic deals and work engagement through psychological empowerment did not meet the standard for significance. Further, job crafting had a stronger effect on psychological empowerment and work engagement for academicians with an internal locus of control. The results show that the top management of the public universities need to consider the impact of psychological empowerment and internal locus of control to usurp these to enhance academicians’ work engagement

Evaluation of international tourists’ satisfaction towards Bangladesh as a tourist destination

    No full text
This study aims to evaluate the influence of destination attributes on international tourists’ satisfaction within the context of Bangladesh. It also aims to investigate how their age and nationality affect their satisfaction levels. Using purposive sampling method, data collected from 387 international tourists were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique. The results of hypotheses testing confirmed that six destination attributes namely attraction, activity, amenity, accommodation, accessibility and safety had a significant positive influence on tourist satisfaction. Additionally, tourists’ age moderated the relationship between attraction, accommodation, safety and tourist satisfaction but did not moderate the relationship between activity, amenity, accessibility and tourist satisfaction. Furthermore, tourists’ nationality moderated the relationship between attraction, accessibility and tourist satisfaction but did not moderate the relationship between activity, amenity, accommodation, safety and tourist satisfaction. The novelty of this study is pioneering the integration of safety as an addition to the five destination attributes classified in the Holiday Satisfaction (HOLSAT) model. This study, therefore, adds to the existing literature by empirically extending HOLSAT destination attributes and explaining the moderating effects of tourists’ age and nationality on tourist satisfaction. It is suggested that further studies should extend the horizon by capturing the intention of international tourists to revisit and recommend Bangladesh as a tourist destination to others

Malaysian higher education institution has stated that to achieve greater global peaks, it is essential to focus on the fundamentals of quality education. The world is facing a dire pandemic outbreak at the beginning of 2020. Instructors and students were compelled to carry on their teaching and learning processes through online learning and the adjustment from traditional learning to open and online distance learning (ODL) has been challenging. This study is mixed-method research which comprises Perceptual Learning Styles Preferences Questionnaires (PLSPQ) and semi-structured interview as the instruments. The purpose of this study was to investigate what are the preferred learning styles of female undergraduate students in learning EAP course during ODL, identify what are the preferred learning styles of male undergraduate students in learning English for Academic Purpose (EAP) course during ODL mode and further discover to what extent students’ gender affects their learning styles preferences in learning EAP courses during ODL. Three research questions were developed to guide the course of this study. In order to identify undergraduates’ learning style preferences during online distance learning (ODL), six aspects of perceptual learning style proposed by Reid (1984) were adapted to look into the various ways people acquire and process knowledge specifically in learning a second language. The undergraduate students in one of the public universities in Malaysia were required to respond to the items in the questionnaires to examine their preferences in learning English during ODL. Their learning styles were determined based on their percentage of votes in the questionnaires. The result of this study indicates every student had a preferred learning style, and it is possible that some individuals used more than one learning style. Males had more continuous positive attitudes toward online learning, whereas female online learners are more persistent and engaged. Each gender exhibits almost similar learning preferences in six aspects of perceptual learning styles in learning EAP courses during ODL mode

Shareholder activism, Muslim CEO, family-controlled firms and disclosure of annual general meeting minutes on the corporate websites in Malaysia

Limited studies have examined the disclosure of Annual General Meeting (AGM) minutes on corporate websites. As such, little is known about the drivers of the disclosure of AGM minutes on corporate websites. This study investigated the drivers of the disclosure of AGM minutes on the corporate websites of Malaysian public-listed companies. The main drivers examined in this study were shareholder activism, Muslim Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and family-controlled firms. This study incorporated firm size, proprietary cost, audit quality, board size and analyst coverage as the control variables. Regression analysis was conducted on the dataset of 261 Malaysian public-listed companies for the financial year ended 31 December 2016 (with AGM meetings held between 1 January 2017 and 30 June 2017). The findings showed that shareholder activism, Muslim CEOs and family-controlled firms were significant and positively associated with the online disclosure of AGM minutes. The robustness tests also supported the findings. This implies that shareholder activism helps in pushing for dissemination of vital corporate information online. Muslim CEOs appeared to transpose the Islamic values of transparency onto the corporate reporting. Contrary to expectation, family-controlled firms are more likely to disclose the AGM minutes to the general public. This suggests that family firms are motivated to quell the illusions of any expropriation from family ownership. The results support agency, stakeholders and signalling theories in explaining online corporate disclosure practices. This study contends that the disclosure of AGM minutes on the corporate websites is crucial for new and absentia investors to assess the sustainability of companies. The findings assist academicians, policy-makers, and managers in understanding the role and determinants of voluntary corporate disclosure

Factors Influencing Social Entrepreneurial Intention Among Students at Higher Learning Institutions in Melaka

    No full text
Social entrepreneurship has gained popularity in developing countries and contributed to the economy by addressing the countries' social and environmental problems. However, there is a significant lack of study on social enterprises especially in Malaysia (specifically in Melaka) which may result in subsequent social and environmental problems. Therefore, there is an urgency to increase the number of social entrepreneurs to solve the issues. The appropriate and effective factors that can influence the intention to become social entrepreneurs need to be researched and promoted to encourage students in higher learning institutions in Melaka to be social entrepreneurs. The Theory of Planned Behaviour is used to examine the relationships between attitude toward becoming a social entrepreneur, social worth, moral obligation, self-efficacy, perceived social support, and social entrepreneurial intention among students at higher learning institutions (HEI) in Melaka. Awareness was selected as a moderator. The study used a convenient sampling method and 765 students responded. Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLSSEM) version 3.3.2 was used to test the relationship and effect among the variables. All of the factors are significantly related to social entrepreneurship intention. Students can be developed as future social entrepreneurs by cultivating their attitude towards becoming social entrepreneurs, moral obligation to helping the needy, a sense of social worth when helping others, self-efficacy in becoming social entrepreneurs, and increasing their knowledge of available support. Awareness moderates the relationship between social worth and social entrepreneurial intention. Social worth is considered a new determinant and awareness a new moderator in the social entrepreneurship study. It is recommended that ministries and HEI to create more awareness and concentrate on building attitude, moral obligations and self-efficacy among students
