The Determinants of Perceived Saving and Spending Decisions Among Working Youth in Pakistan
The purpose of this study is to understand the saving and spending decisions of Pakistan's working youth. The study mainly investigated whether factors such as family background, peer role, and financial stress play an important role in saving and spending decisions by working youth in Pakistan. Furthermore, this study examined the impact of financial literacy as a mediator in the relationship between independent and dependent variables. The respondents in this study are working youth in various organizations in Pakistan during May 2019 to September 2019. Stratified random sampling technique was employed to determine the sample and 309 questionnaires were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Smart PLS3. The findings show that financial stress significantly affects financial literacy, saving, and spending decisions. Meanwhile, family background also significantly affects saving decisions and financial literacy in the spending model. In both models, peer role has a significant effect on financial literacy. Financial literacy significantly affects saving and spending decisions but peer role does not. Besides, family background does not significantly affect spending decisions and financial literacy in the saving model. The results also show that financial literacy, as mediating variable, significantly affects the relationship between all independent and dependent variables. Financial literacy is shown as a significant factor in saving and spending decisions among Pakistan's working youth. Therefore, policymakers and the government can work together to implement initiatives to increase financial literacy, among youth, in order to assist them in making sound financial decisions. This study provides important implications for theory and practice, and recommendations for future research
Consumer behaviour of online intention to purchase during Covid-19 pandemic: the role of religiosity and trust from perspective of theory of planned behavioural
Today, the halal food product from manufacturing industry is a new economy source that contributes to Malaysia's GDP on average of 8.1% per annum. This industry has contributed about RM30.6 billion in 2020 and is estimated to continue up to RM50 billion
in 2025. Even so, the Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on the industry since 2020. It is likely that there will be an impact on the production of halal food products as well as on the demand rate of its consumers. Therefore, it is the intention of this study to examine
some of that impact from the perspective of consumers who buy online from several institutions of higher learning. This study was examined the relationship between the religiosity, trust, attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and the intention
to purchase halal food products. The method of data collection had been used was simple random sampling. And the data was gathered through online survey questionnaires from 155 respondents in four public universities in northern region. There were five hypotheses proposed. The results of the study concluded only three hypotheses were supported where trust, attitude and subjective norm are factors that have significant in relation towards the intention to purchase halal food products. Therefore, positively these results can be a such direction for local halal food manufacturers to improve their business strategies especially during pandemic of infection
A harmony index with consideration of experts' credibility in criteria weighting: The perspective of adolescents in the northern region of peninsular Malaysia
Assessing the harmony level of a society is a beneficial effort to deal with challenges of ensuring a united and peaceful country. The social harmony is at stake due to the unpleasant milieu much related to racial issues. Assessing society from the perspective of an adolescent is crucial as today’s adolescents are the future responsible citizens expected to build a harmonious nation. Therefore, this study developed a harmony index that is able to assess the harmonious level from the perspective of multi-ethnic adolescents in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. This study employed both qualitative and quantitative methods. Initially, criteria associated with the nation's harmony were identified and qualitatively ranked by selected experts. The Rank Order Centroid (ROC) method was utilized to formulate the weight for each criterion, which was then incorporated with the expert’s degree of credibility. The resulted weights were later integrated with scores on relevant nation's current situations in the Simple Weighted Average (SWA) method to develop the harmony index. Based on a scale of index values, the harmony level can be classified as low, moderate or high. The findings revealed that the level of harmony from the perspective of adolescents is 7.03, suggesting the level of harmony is considerably high and in harmonious situations. Among the criteria, mutual understanding, faith, morality and tolerance are the prominent criteria that promote harmony. The proposed harmony index has successfully incorporated experts’ degree of credibility with weights, formulated through the ROC and integrated in the SWA, which undoubtedly added up and expanded the knowledge in Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) analysis. Subsequently, the assessment through the harmony index could be a guidance to relevant authorities to plan appropriate actions and programs in order to sustain, promote and nurture the harmony among adolescents in Malaysia

The influence of L1 knowledge, meaning knowledge and language exposure on the processing and production of english collocations among EFL learners
Interlingual influence plays a critical role in the acquisition of English collocations. L2 learners often produced L1-based errors (Nesselhauf, 2003). However, the working mechanism of interlingual influence on the acquisition of L2 collocations is not fully understood. The current study aimed to ascertain the positive and negative effects of L1 on the acquisition of English collocations among EFL learners by examining congruency effects on collocation processing and production, the activation of L1 in the processing as well as the errors in collocation production. The study also investigated the effects of meaning knowledge and language exposure on the acquisition of English collocations. Participants are 60 Chinese EFL learners and they were divided into two groups according to their English proficiency. Reaction Time (RT) research techniques and a productive test were utilized to examine L1 influence on English collocation processing and production respectively. The data of the processing tasks were analyzed in quantitative ways, and the data of the productive test were firstly analyzed with statistical techniques and were further analyzed with the technique of Error Analysis. The study has gained significant congruency effects on processing (p<.001) and production (p<.001), significant priming effects of L1, with F (2,58)=49.004, P<.01, on the processing of incongruent collocations, but non-significant effects of language exposure and meaning knowledge. Almost a half of incongruent collocations were given more than 50% L1-induced deviant answers in production. The results revealed that L1 played positive and negative roles in the acquisition of English collocations, and transferred L1 would be fossilized in L2 lexicon and was hard to be discarded. The findings provide insights into interlingual influence on English collocation processing and production, as well as some implications for theory construction. Based on the findings, the study gave suggestions for pedagogical practice on L2 collocation acquisition and further research
Identification of time series components using break for time series components (bftsc) and group for time series components (gftsc) techniques
Commonly in time series modelling, identifying the four time series components which are trend, seasonal, cyclical, and irregular is conducted manually using the time series plot. However, this manual identification approach requires tacit knowledge of the expert forecaster. Thus, an automated identification approach is needed to bridge the gap between expert and end user. Previously, a technique known as Break for Additive Seasonal and Trend (BFAST) was developed to automatically identify only linear trend and seasonal components, and consider the other two (i.e., cyclical and irregular) as random. Therefore, in this study, BFAST was extended to identify all four time series components using two new techniques termed Break for Time Series Components (BFTSC) and Group for Time Series Components (GFTSC). Both techniques were developed by adding cyclical and irregular components to the previous BFAST technique. The performance of BFTSC and GFTSC were validated through simulation and empirical studies. In the simulation study, monthly and yearly data were replicated 100 times based on three sample sizes (small, medium, and large), and embedding the four time series components as the simulation conditions. Percentages of identifying the correct time series components were calculated in the simulation data. Meanwhile in the empirical study, four data sets were used by comparing the manual identification approach with the BFTSC and GFTSC automatic identification. The simulation findings indicated that BFTSC and GFTSC identified correct time series components 100% when large sample size combined with linear trend and other remaining time series components. The empirical findings also supported BFTSC and GFTSC, which performed as well as a manual identification approach for only two data sets exhibiting linear trend and other components combinations. Both techniques were not performing well in other two data sets displaying curve trend. These findings indicated that BFTSC and GFTSC automatic identification techniques are suitable for data with linear trend and require future extensions for other trends. The proposed techniques help end user in reducing time to automatically identify the time series component
