Jenayah penyeludupan dadah di sempadan malaysia: Kajian kes di Bukit Kayu hitam, Kedah
Drugs are a global threat that can have ramifications for a country’s public safety and health system. The continuing rise in narcotics demand has resulted in the prevalence of drug smuggling activities, including considerable cross-border smuggling, in the majority of countries throughout the world. Various efforts have been enhanced by the authorities to combat drug smuggling, but these measures are perceived as increasingly difficult and indefinite given the high demand for drugs. This study was conducted to investigate the modus operandi of drug smuggling and the types of drugs that are frequently smuggled into Malaysia through the border town of Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah. In this study, a qualitative method approach based on content analysis was applied to clarify the study objective and grasp the true situation in order to create recommendations to boost drug smuggling syndicate prevention efforts at the border. The cases in this study would be chosen through purposive sampling, which included five respondents who were charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 between 2017 and 2020, with seizures valued at greater than RM2,500. The study's findings revealed that the modus operandi for drug smuggling at the border of Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, was by land, using vehicles modified with a specific compartment or “secret compartment”. The types of drugs that are often smuggled are marijuana, syabu, erimin 5, and ecstasy. Among the recommendations highlighted in this study were the addition of logistics facilities for use during operations, high-tech equipment, the establishment of a licence plate recognition system, close cooperation between enforcement agencies with private and international parties, and the strengthening of management aspects such as increased membership of the authority and exposure to sufficient training on smuggling syndicates at the border for those members. Therefore, this syndicate must be curbed to the grassroots in order to maintain social security as well as stability in politics, economy, culture, society, and national defence
Factors affecting income stability of elderlies in Malaysia: The potential of reverse mortgage and the willingness to accept reverse mortgage
With Malaysia's aging population, income stability for the elderly is critical to pay for their retirement expenses. However, most Malaysians do not have sufficient retirement savings in EPF. Thus, it is important to examine the income stability of the elderly to understand their financial status in retirement. To understand the demand side, this study will examine the willingness to take up a reverse mortgage from the homeowner’s perspective by employing a cross-sectional design and applied; This study examines the determinants of income stability of the elderlies and the feasibility of reverse mortgage as income replacement. To tackle income stability, house price is studied as income replacement to understand the feasibility of implementing reverse mortgage in Malaysia to overcome income instability. Data were analysed using Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (ARDL). Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and House Price Index are the dependent variables which Household income per capital (GDP), unemployment rate, dependency ratio, total aging population and interest rate are the independent variables. The time series of this study covers from 1999 to 2019. The results reveal that all independent variables are significant in determining income stability and house price index (as an indicator of a reverse mortgage). Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between the type of primarily residential property and marital status, affordability to pay daily expenses in retirement, gender and marital status, intention to stay at the primary residential property until death, and marital status and education level. Financial institutions and policymakers should consider the importance of property ownership in delivering similar functions like EPF. The reverse mortgage is one of the related financial packages in which the elderly can use their property to exchange cash for their retirement living expenses. As a result, reverse mortgages can be a viable alternative source of income for the elderly to maintain their financial stabilit
Developing prototype cost model for embedded motherboards assembly- A case study
Organizations today need cost estimation in product early conceptual stage to compete in the market. This study aims to examine the impact of types of components, number of components, memory type, memory size, IPC (Institute for Printed Circuits) class of Printed Circuit Board, types of test/acceptance criteria, number of batch lot sizes, and form factor on the estimated cost of Embedded Motherboard (EM) PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) at the Prototype Build stage. Learning Curve theory is used as underpinning theory. 77 sample size of suppliers’ quotation of different models of EM in the prototype build stage were collected with case study sampling technique used. Multiple regression was performed for data analysis. The results showed that types of components, IPC Class, types of test, number of batch lot sizes, and form factor significantly impacted the total predicted cost. However, number of components, memory type and memory size have insignificant impact on the total predicted cost. The findings furnish significant input to NPD team members to predict prototype PCBA cost despite minimum information at the early design stage. Theoretical implication includes new cost estimation model to improve cost engineering knowledge while practical implication includes cost savings to company in terms of wastage reduction. Practical implication include cost savings to company in terms of wastage reduction. Future research is suggested to embark on an automated parametric cost estimation model to capture, incorporate and store each estimation into a database that can be kept and retrieved for future cost estimation
The Influence of Institution Reputation, Service Quality and Satisfaction on Students’ Loyalty Towards Kolej Poly Tech Mara
The democratization of higher education in Malaysia has driven a flourishing number of higher education institutions to expand in tandem with student education demands. Apparently, in higher education institutions, particularly private institutions, achieving student satisfaction to secure student loyalty is imperative. Inconsistent re-enrolment, student dropouts and decreasing student enrolment increase the pressure on private institutions to compete. Therefore, persistence in the value of an institution's brand name and student satisfaction in education services become the essential issues for private institutions to resolve. Hence, using a quantitative research approach, this study sought to assess the relationship between institution reputation and service quality on student loyalty and to gauge the mediating effects of student satisfaction on the relationship between institution reputation and service quality. Respondents were the final year diploma students from eight (8) campuses of Kolej Poly-Tech MARA. A total of 404 questionnaires were distributed to the selected respondents using a stratified sampling method, and 252 were usable and used in the subsequent analysis. Seven (7) hypotheses were developed and tested using SPSS and SmartPLS software. The Reciprocal Theory was referred as to the underlying theory in this study. Empirical results suggest that service quality and student satisfaction have a significant positive effect on student loyalty. However, contrary to the theoretical proposition, institutional reputation shows insignificant influences. The result indicates that student satisfaction mediates the relationships between institution reputation and service quality on student loyalty. The present study expands the theoretical knowledge regarding the associations between institutional reputation, service quality, student satisfaction and student loyalty in educational institutions. The results also provide valuable strategic information for higher education institutions' management for formulating appropriate strategies to ensure student satisfaction and loyalty, especially from the perspective of private higher education institutions
The effect of reinvestment allowance on turnover and return on asset among manufacturing companies
This study explores the effect of reinvestment allowance on turnover and return on asset among manufacturing companies. Reinvestment allowance is known as one of the most prominent tax incentives. For that purpose, a quantitative approach with inland revenue data has been studied to answer the objectives of the study. Specifically, two hundred eighteen manufacturing companies that enjoy reinvestment allowance been examined, focusing on the return of qualifying asset ratio and turnover growth ratio. The findings indicate that smaller companies that invested in qualifying asset benefited more from reinvestment allowance as higher ratios of return of qualifying asset were attained. However, concerning the turnover growth, bigger companies benefited more as they experienced a higher overall growth. Suggestions for further study are having a longer time frame for research to determine the sustainability of a company and focus should be emphasised on manufacturing companies of similar interests
Relationships among factors affecting learners' satisfaction in blended learning of english proficiency course
The introduction of blended learning has had a significant impact on English Teaching and Learning at Higher Education Institutions, including increasing learners’ satisfaction. Though blended learning is useful in learning English, not all learners are proficient in acquiring the language at the end of the English course. Thus, this mixedmethods sequential explanatory study examined the factors affecting learners' satisfaction in blended learning of English proficiency course. The Transactional Distance Theory (TDT) and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) were used as underpinning theories in this study. The research variables include course structure, interaction, learner autonomy, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and learner satisfaction. In the first phase, 275 learners from the English proficiency 1 course were involved in the quantitative research. The Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) approach was applied to examine the relationship among the variables and test all 13 hypotheses. The findings indicated that out of nine hypotheses for direct relationships, six hypotheses were statistically correlated and supported except for H1, H3, and H6. Meanwhile, three hypotheses (H11, H12, and H13) were supported out of four mediation relationships, while only one (H10) was not supported. More importantly, perceived usefulness mediates the relationship among interaction, learner autonomy and perceived ease of use with learner satisfaction. In the second phase, qualitative research involving seven informants was conducted to elaborate and triangulate the quantitative findings. The outcomes of the qualitative research were consistent and supported the quantitative results. This study provides deeper insight into the relationship between those factors. Hence, this study could expand the existing literature boundary and contribute to the body of knowledge related to the factors affecting learners' satisfaction in blended learning among English proficiency learners theoretically, practically, and methodologically
