The continuous development and evolution of the cosmetics industry have opened up opportunities for founders to market various types of self-branded cosmetic products, through contract manufacturing services, eventhough with where they require less experience and knowledge related to cosmetics products and only required a small capital. This situation has led to the dumping of cosmetic products in the market with dubious quality and safety status. In fact, the entire responsibility for complying with the rules of safety and quality of cosmetic products rests entirely with the manufacturer or supplier (founder). Therefore, this study was conducted to analyse the issues related to product quality and safety among cosmetics founders in North Malaysia, towards implementing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and comply with the established standard. The study used observation methods and questionnaires distributed to cosmetics founders in the northern region of Malaysia because it has a high number of cosmetic manufacturers. The findings indicate that the variables of material content, training and documentation, as elements in Good Manufacturing Practices moderated by Supply Chain Management, have positive and significant interactions with the performance of cosmetic products. The findings of this study are beneficial and can help cosmetics founders understand the need to comply with these cosmetic control standards as a basic requirement in the production of quality and safe cosmetics while helping consumers realize the effects of using substandard and risky cosmetics. There is a high need for mandatory compliance to standards for manufactures (founders) for ensure the quality and safety of cosmetics in Malaysia

In Thailand, e-marketplaces have been predicted to become the leading online shopping platform in forthcoming years. Nonetheless, the local e-marketplaces suffer from the price war strategy of foreign e-marketplaces. Moreover, Thai online shoppers prefer shopping from the online shopping platforms of other countries. Hence, the current study aimed to examine the e-marketplace patronage intention in southern Thailand by employing the extended theory of reasoned action (TRA). Although brand equity can impact patronage intention, traditional brand equity may not be appropriate for online businesses, including e-marketplaces. Therefore, the online retail/service (ORS) brand equity was applied in the extended TRA as an independent variable. Moreover, the current study also extended the TRA by integrating the effect of the country of origin (COO) as a moderator variable as there are limited findings regarding the foreignness of online retailers. Based on a quantitative study, a questionnaire survey was employed to collect data from online shoppers in southern Thailand. A total of 399 questionnaires were analysed using Smart PLS 3. The study results indicate that attitude towards behaviour, subjective norm and ORS brand equity positively influence e-marketplace patronage intention. However, the effect of COO does not influence e-marketplace patronage intention. Finally, the effect of COO plays a negative moderating role in the relationship between the attitude towards behaviour and e-marketplace patronage intentio

The public education sector, specifically in developing countries like Pakistan, has a serious problem of teacher‘s job performance with limited resources, lack of research, and evidence-based administrative interventions. This study aims to investigate the effect of sustainable HRM and emotional intelligence (EI) on teachers‘ job performance (TJP). This study also aims to investigate the mediating effect of psychological ownership (PO) on the relationship between sustainable HRM and EI towards TJP in the public secondary school of Punjab Pakistan. Psychological Possession Theory (PPT) and Organizational Support Theory‘s (OST) assumptions were tested for the effect of sustainable HRM and EI on TJP through the mediation effect of PO. The sustainable HRM was measured using employability (EP), sense of personal responsibility (PR), work-life balance (WLB), and training (T), while all other variables were measured unidimensionally. The response was gathered by a self-administered survey based on stratified proportionate random sampling among secondary school teachers in 36 districts of Punjab Pakistan. The collected data were analyzed using the structural equation model (SEM) technique in Smart PLS. The results of PLS-SEM path modeling analysis for a sample of 451 secondary school teachers revealed that two out of four dimensions of sustainable HRM (EP and T) have a positive effect on TJP, while PR and WLB has an insignificant association with the TJP. Moreover, EI is negatively associated with TJP. Besides, three out of four dimensions of sustainable HRM namely PR, WLB, and T are positively associated with PO, while EP is negatively associated with PO. Further, EI is positively associated with PO. The study also shows that PO as positively affecting TJP. Finally, PO serving as a mediator in the relationship between three dimensions of sustainable HRM (PR, WLB, and T) and EI with TJP. Based on the findings of this study, the education department could focus on teachers‘ sustainability which further developed the PO, which in return enhance TJP. Most importantly, the school education department should focus on increasing the level of PO as to boost the TJP. Finally, the theoretical and practical contributions, as well as limitations and recommendations for future research are also discussed in this thesis

The Basic Law of 2003 stipulates that the governing system in Palestine is a parliamentary democratic system based on political and party pluralism, in which the President is elected directly by the people. Article 2 of the Basic Law 2003 provides that the people of Palestine are the source of power, which shall be exercised by the authorities based upon the principle of separation of powers. The Council of Ministers is accountable to the President and the Legislative Council. However, the Palestinian legal system is currently facing a legal gap. The ambiguity and discrepancy of legal provisions regulating the relationship between the authorities have led to an overlapping of powers and functions between the President, the Council of Ministers, and the Legislative Council. Moreover, political division between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank also contributes to the overlapping of powers and functions between the authorities. Overlapping of powers covers many fields such as legislative, security, financial and appointment to senior positions. This research aims to identify the powers and functions of the President, the Council of Ministers, and the Legislative Council, the overlapping of powers and functions between these authorities and the impact of political division between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank on the Palestinian legal system. To achieve these objectives, socio-legal research using interviews as a tool for qualitative research was engaged. The results proved that there is an overlapping in the powers and functions between the President, the Council of Ministers and the Legislative Council in many fields. In addition, the political division also brought a negative impact on their relationship. The results suggest amending the provisions of the Basic Law 2003 and related laws by removing ambiguity and discrepancy to prevent this overlapping of powers and functions between the President, the Council of Ministers, and the Legislative Council. Furthermore, presidential and legislative elections should be conducted in Palestine to put an end to political division and activating the role of the Supreme Constitutional Court will help to provide a solution to the problems, therefore, achieving the objectives of this study

Understanding the process of cross-cultural code switching of global virtual teams in knowledge sharing

Globalization is reshaping the international business landscape and shifting traditional work structures to a more flexible, dynamic, and virtual work structure. — This has led to the use of Global Virtual Team (GVT) —which has become a common working structure in most organisations, with email being the most popular medium for global virtual teams to bridge the language barrier gap. However, cultural diversity has resulted in miscommunication, which has had an impact on the virtual business environment. Despite the absence of face-to-face interaction and a diverse cultural background, virtual team members could adjust their communicative behaviour to account for the lack of nonverbal cues and cultural differences. The cross-cultural code-switching concept, which refers to the shifting of behaviour when people communicate in a foreign setting, served as the foundation for this study, which aimed to explore and understand the cross-cultural code-switching process of high-context GVT members. Twenty-two (n=22) Malaysian employees who participated in a GVT were interviewed for the study. The qualitative research method with semi-structured online interviews was used to collect data. To gain a better understanding of the cross-cultural code-switching process, the data was analysed using a qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. The findings revealed that high context GVT members switched cross-cultural codes in three stages: initiation, convergence switching, and internalisation. It also discovered the cultural factors and reasons for the switch, as well as the challenges that high context GVT members faced when switching communication styles. This study theoretically extended Hall's cultural context in a virtual setting and bridged Molinsky's cross-cultural code-switching model with intercultural communication theory. In practical sense, this study proposed a cross-cultural code-switching training for effective intercultural communication in a virtual setting. This that would help various GVT stakeholders, including Human Resource managers and GVT project leaders to communicate more effectively with people from other cultures

Obesity has widespread in many developing nations, including Malaysia. Obesity among nurses has also increased from 36% in 2019 to 42% in 2020. Obesity is known as a dangerous health problem. When a person is obese, they have higher risk for diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, sleep apnea, and cancers that will decreases the individual quality of life. Nurses in Malaysia were also found to have chronic illnesses such as hypercholesterolemia and hypertension. This circumstance does not help the nurses' credibility in giving health education to the general population. When obese people with chronic diseases increased, cost of treatment will also increase. Therefore, this study was conducted with the intention to capture factors that might influence obesity among nurses. The study examines the direct relationship between work-related factor, psychosocial factor, weight control behavior and obesity. A total of 306 questionnaire were distributed to nurses on site through head nurse or team leader after permission was granted by the hospital. Response rate was 100%. In this study, hypotheses for direct effect were tested using multiple regression analyses. Results showed that only work-related factor was significantly positively related to obesity. The findings indicate that obesity issues among nurses can be reduced by improving on the work-related factor such as encouraging the nurses to do simple exercise during work break during irregular or long working hours, limit the computer usage in daily working hours and working days in a week, improve on the working environment, and reduce stress related to job

    Get PDF
Nowadays, Chinese multinational corporations (MNCs) are facing extreme pressures due to increasing costs and stiff competition from global MNCs. In order to maintain the low-cost production capability and high core competitiveness, Chinese MNCs need knowledge workers (k-workers) to support their operations. However, the work pressure faced by k-workers’ in their workplace (China), especially concerning the relationship between their supervisors, is alarming and creates a disharmonious relationship and negative attitude, which will eventually lead to a decline in their performance. Hence, in order to improve their task performance, it is necessary to improve the relationship between k-workers and their supervisors. Thus, this study aims to examine the antecedents and outcome of k-workers’ leader-member exchange (LMX) in Chinese MNCs. The study’s framework describes the antecedents (servant leadership, benevolent leadership, distributive justice, psychological empowerment) of LMX and its outcome (task performance). In addition, affective commitment and organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB) act as mediators in the relationship between LMX and task performance in this study. This study applied quantitative study using self-administered survey to collect data for the purpose of answering the research questions. To accommodate this purpose, 1132 questionnaires were distributed among Chinese MNCs and 700 were returned. Of these, 443 were useful and qualify for data analysis. The Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique was employed for data analysis. Findings show that k-worker’s LMX is positively influenced by servant leadership, distributive justice, and psychological empowerment (only meaning and competence), and has a positive relationship with affective commitment, OCB (OCB-Individual and OCB-Organization), and task performance. Findings also show that benevolent leadership, two dimensions of psychological empowerment (self-determinant and impact) have no significant relationship with k-workers’ LMX. Additionally, the mediation effects of affective commitment, OCB (OCB-Individual and OCB-Organization) were confirmed. Hence, this study has theoretical implications and also provides practical suggestions on how to manage, motivate, and inspire Chinese k-workers, promote their task performance, and enhance the organizational performance of Chinese MNCs

    Get PDF
An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is a software that helps organisations to manage their core processes, including assets, inventory, order requests, financial accounting, and human resources. This study explores the ERP implementation challenges in a telecommunications company. This study is a qualitative study, where a single case study approach was used (in a company given the pseudonym FESB) to collect data using a semi-structured interview. The data was analysed by using thematic analysis. The findings suggest that the main challenges faced by FESB during ERP implementation are technology, data migration, training and learning and management. In this context, these factors contribute to the delayed ERP implementation in FESB, which is targeted to be implemented in July 2022. The findings suggest that FESB should utilise the system’s capabilities more than currently; the system implementation is at the data migration stage and is not fully used. This research contributes to the challenges to ERP implementation in the context of a telecommunications company
