PT. PLN (Persero) UP3 Tolitoli consists of four customer service units, namely ULP Leok, ULP Bangkir, ULP Moutong, and ULP Kotaraya. The electricity supply in ULP Kotaraya comes from an isolated system supported by PLTD Kotaraya, PLTD Tomini, and PLTD Palasa. During the dry season from September to November 2023, the power deficit at the power plants reached 950 kW, causing rolling blackouts. In order to overcome this problem, PLN UP3 Tolitoli plans to build a substation near Ongka Malino District to supply the Kotaraya system, which will improve flexibility and customer satisfaction. This study aims to implement the system condition through system testing based on the design of the Kotaraya isolated system after the operation of the Moutong Substation using software. The results of this study show that after the Moutong Substation operates, the functions of PLTD Kotaraya and PLTD Palasa change into voltage controllers, resulting in a power system with medium-voltage busbar voltage values that are more stable based on the standards used by PLN, with a nominal range of +5% and -10% against 20 kV

Expanding Research Horizons: Exploring Less Frequently Used Research Methodologies in Applied Linguistics

The book Less Frequently Used Research Methodologies in Applied Linguistics, edited by A. Mehdi Riazi, explores underutilized research methodologies that offer fresh perspectives in applied linguistics. The book presents a range of approaches, including the multiperspectival approach (MPA), multimodal analysis, conversation analysis, grounded theory, phenomenology, narrative inquiry, and the repertory grid technique. Each chapter provides both theoretical foundations and practical applications, such as MPA’s use in art and design communication, multimodal analysis in embodied teaching and textbooks, and conversation analysis in studying avoidance strategies. Grounded theory is examined in the context of extensive reading, while phenomenology sheds light on EFL learners’ experiences of maintaining foreign language proficiency. Narrative inquiry is demonstrated through case studies from Senegal, and the repertory grid technique is explored for its potential in linguistic research. The volume concludes with a critical discussion of the challenges and contributions of these lesser-used methodologies, advocating for their broader adoption. By showcasing these alternative approaches, the book serves as a valuable resource for researchers seeking to expand their methodological repertoire in applied linguistics

Intelligent Fault Prediction in Diesel Engines: A Comparative Study of SVM and BPNN for Condition-Based Maintenance

This study discusses the application of Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) in predicting diesel engine health based on operational data relabeled using K-Means Clustering. Two types of SVM kernels were tested, namely Radial Basis Function (RBF) and Sigmoid, with various parameter combinations. The results indicate that SVM with Sigmoid kernel achieved an accuracy of 94.06%, but was less sensitive in detecting unhealthy engine conditions. In comparison, the BPNN method with a three-hidden-layer configuration (1-2-1 neurons) and tansig activation function showed superior performance with 97.13% accuracy, MSE of 0.03, recall of 94%, precision of 100%, and F1-score of 97%. These findings prove that BPNN outperforms SVM in capturing complex data patterns and is more accurate in detecting unhealthy engine conditions. Additionally, relabeling the dataset significantly improved predictive accuracy from 72.3% to 97.13%, highlighting the importance of balanced data in modeling. Overall, this study demonstrates that optimally configured BPNN is more effective in predicting diesel engine health than SVM, making it a more reliable approach for engine condition monitoring.

Evolution of Capacitor Switching Detection and Location Determination in Power Distribution Systems: from Traditional Methods to AI-Enhanced Approaches

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of methodological evolution in capacitor switching detection and location determination for power distribution systems, spanning from traditional analytical approaches to contemporary artificial intelligence-enhanced methods. The analysis evaluates six major methodological paradigms: gradient-based detection, voltage-only approaches, machine learning integration, deep learning applications, uncertainty quantification, and real-time processing techniques. Through systematic performance comparisons across 45 recent studies (2020-2025), this research demonstrates that AI-enhanced methods achieve detection accuracy exceeding 97% with uncertainty bounds, compared to 85-92% for traditional approaches. The comparative analysis reveals computational trade-offs, implementation complexity, and economic considerations for each methodology class. Key findings indicate a 40% reduction in false positive rates and 60% improvement in computational efficiency when transitioning from traditional to AI-enhanced approaches. This research provides quantitative benchmarking and decision frameworks for utilities selecting optimal capacitors switching analysis methodologies, contributing to improved power quality management in modern distribution systems
