    Verteilungswirkungen einer Vermögensteuer

    No full text

Experiences Implementing QoS Aware Routing on Off-the-shelf SDN Switches

    No full text
This paper provides an overview of the Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities defined in the OpenFlow specification. Several vendor documentations from off-the-shelf products are compared with the OpenFlow specification. This research reveals inconsistencies between the specification and the vendors implementation. Queues for examples are not implemented by all vendors. This gap can lead to interoperability problems in a network while using hardware from different vendors. The research also shows, that the majority of vendors provide a port statistic function which gives information about incoming and outgoing bandwidth about each port of a switch. Based on this function a QoS aware routing application for off-the-shelf switches is proposed. This concept can be used to change the flow of traffic in an OpenFlow network based on the utilization of the interfaces. Based on the conducted research, the application can be used with hardware from multiple vendors. This paper does not contain a quantitative evaluation of the implemented application

Let’s Bee : A Social Initiative to Create Urban Bee Friendly Spaces

While you walk outside on a sunny day enjoying the flowers and smells, hundreds of little insects will be tirelessly working around you, as a group; as one. You might not see them at first, but you will definitely hear them… My sister is a biologist and she has always loved bees. She has taught me about them, and now I love them too. Every time I try to draw one, she reminds me that they have six legs and two pairs of wings (after doing this project, now I also know they have five eyes). I believe she does this not because she thinks I have forgotten, but because she is marveled by them. As everybody should. Bees are responsible for pollinating millions of flowers every year and we own them one-third of our food. I am in no position of saying we would die without bees, but I definitely know we would have a very boring and sad existence. Coffee, chocolate, avocados, tomatoes and mangoes (i.e., the best things in life)are just a small part of a long list of foods that would disappear. As years pass, more bees (as well as other pollinators) decrease in numbers. The reason behind this is complicated to solve, because it is a combination of circumstances and factors that just one action, object or person, can’t tackle alone. I believe the best way to help bees is through sustainability. Communities need to come together and work as one (just like a hive) to add efforts and small actions that will improve their environment little by little. This way both bees and people will get synchronized again and they will have a better chance of survival. Let’s not allow our sunny days go quiet

Design for Equity : Early Childhood Education Towards Gender Equality

This project was born by observing and feeling the barriers women face every day, in every part of the world. We are all surrounded by religion, traditional values, stereotypes. In Brazil, my home country, it is not different from most of the so-called developing countries: in every street, every company, every newspaper, in politics, women are insulted, harassed, raped, murdered. There is a situation which always comes to my mind. It happened in the beginning of this year, and summarizes how alarming the situation is for women there: during a plenary section, transmitted by public TV, a congressman called Jair Bolsonaro said, literally, he would not rape his opposer of the debate, congress woman Maria do Rosário, only because she does not deserve it. And nothing was done against it. He was not arrested, he was not stopped. It is cruel and, sometimes, seems hopeless. How to transform the world into a better place for women to live, when the attacks come from every single side? I have a guess: children’s education. We all know the children from today will be the basis of the humanity of the future. They can make it better. Besides, I have this impulse to work with children since a good experience I had in an orphanage in Brazil some years ago. During a photo-documentary production, I got in touch with so many children, who, besides the adversities, were open to a change, dreaming about their good future, being always incredibly smart and creative. Working with them is so easy and promising. Then my path towards gender equality through education started. Many activities, games, and talks were planned, explained, and, when possible, applied. This “when possible” expresses the first barrier I have found when designing my “lets-save-the-world” dream: adults. It is extremely hard to convince adults that the way they educate their children could be better in some aspects. (...

Study Our Self, Design Your Life

    No full text
We are improving our society in order to attain happiness. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that happiness is our ultimate goal. On the contrary, even in a micro-designed world, people are still depressed. However, there is one thing that can change the situation. That thing is you, the most powerful person in your life. If it is so, you must know about yourself. But nobody places importance to it. Because people are already too busy to keep up with social criteria. So at the end of their life, they feel as if everything was in vain. The futility sometimes drives to an extreme situation and finally leads to suicide. Under these circumstances, people believe something is wrong and hope to make changes. Fortunately, Positive Psychology is expected to appropriately guide people. Making a comeback from exhaustion needs a drive. The drive can come along with a growth mindset. With this study, Design can play a role in bridging positive psychology and human life for ultimate well being
