Methoden der ökologischen Bewertung von Flussaltwässern anhand des Makrozoobenthos

    No full text
In this study macroinvertebrate community of seven oxbow lakes along Middle Elbe were studied and compared. The macroinvertebrates were sampled in April and June/July 2017, all macroinvertebrats were considered. The oxbow lakes differ between the hydrological connectivity to the main stream (isolated, periodically and permanently connected)and other abiotic factors like the composition of the sediment, vegetation and hydromorphological conditions. The aim of this study was to characterize the oxbow lakes in the term of their conservation value and to identify factors which explain the differences in the composition of the macroinvertebrate communities between the oxbow lakes. Also the success of rehabilitation measures should be proofed. The results show a high abundance and diversity of microinvertebrates in all oxbow lakes. The Sørensen-Index indicates a high similarity between all investigated macroinvertebrate communities. The percentage of neozoa species is relatively low (between 0% in the isolated oxbow lake Rühstädt I and 15% in the periodically connected oxbow lake Sapels). Species number was highest in the permanently connected oxbow lake Sandauerholz with the highest amount of endangered species (Red-list-taxa), mainly riverine species like the riverine mussels Sphaerium rivicola and S. solidum and some Gomphidae-species Gomphus flavipes, G. vulgatissimus and Ophiogomus cecilla. This could be the result of a successful restoration in 2006, because the re-connection to the main stream also produced a higher flow regime in the waterbody, which benefits the abundance of riverine species. The second aim of this study was to test and compare relatively new approaches to assess the succession state (Oxbow Lake Index, Floodplain Index and "Quantifizierter Leitartenindex") and/or the ecological status (Odonate river index.
