Urban Greenery to Redefine Cityscape For More Sustainability

    No full text
The purpose of this Master thesis is to investigate the effects of greenery on the cityscape in general with linking this research to the growing countries such as the Middle Eastregion, where the heat is more than the European region and they need more solution to decrease the Urban heat and live in a more sustainable way. The case study part was taking a place in Singapore because Singapore started their way in the sustainability and urban greenery and there is such a good examples of urban greenery in Singapore, and the design part site chosen in Damascus, Syria in the Middle East because of the urbanisation and random housing that impact on the city of Damascus specially in this time where a lot of destruction occurred due to the country unstable situation which Damascus need the focus in the Middle East

Cutting Time Optimization Using Technology for CNC Machines

    No full text
The paper considers a problem of cutting tool route formation in a generalized formulation. The paper also proposes a mathematical model of total cutting time minimization based on standard, chained and common cutting technologies. Simple and combined equidistant types of transitions between equidistant (cutting and idle), as well as the entry points (insertions) and exits (ejections) of the cutting instrument, are used as technological limitations. Total cutting time equals to the sum of idle moves, total stroke time and the amount of time spent on material insertion and cutting initialization. The problem is solved in two main steps. First step (preliminary) includes determining areas of common cutting and equidistant contours generation, considering information about common cutting. Second step (optimization) includes creation of entry and exit points array, followed by optimization working stroke and idle moves ratio, as well as optimization of entry points count to minimize total cutting time. Algorithms for determining common cutting areas and generation common equidistant are shown. The proposed model has been tested via “ITAS NESTING” software complex. The Great Deluge Algorithm has been used for computing experiment conduction. The results of experiment obtained using waterjet instrument shows that common cutting technology usage leads to shortening of total cutting time due to reduction of idle moves and number of needed entry points

Risk-driven Assessments for Security Functionality in Road Vehicle Information Systems

    No full text
The risk-driven approach to security assessments focuses on cost-effective security functionality instead of abstract security targets. It matches a “Security by Design” development lifecycle with an assessment that verifies the sufficiency and correctness of the security functionality implemented. The assessment is organized in three stages. The security design inspection assesses, if the security design artefact describes a sufficient security functionality for the system. The functional security test assesses, if the security functionality has been implemented in accordance to the security design. Finally, the system security assessment is conducted to verify, that the implementation of the functionality in fact increased the security level of the system. With the risk-driven security assessment approach, it is therefore possible to give the supplier the information on what the security-critical faults of the system are. Proper documentation enables him to fix them. A company or team following the risk-driven security assessment approach can therefore offer attractive services to the stakeholders involved in the system development process

Political Match : Find who voices your opinion

The current political landscape in Brazil is highly compromised. Due to major political scandals, unveiled in the recent past, and intrinsic corruption in the political class, concerns about the future of the Brazilian political system increased. On this note, this project explores how design can engage with politicsas a civic act, in order to collaborate in changing the current reality. In a representative democracy, the citizens should be informed about what happens in the government. In the current setting, however, accessing this information is complicated. This project was built upon the opportunity of providing people with a simplified way to discover how much affinity they have with their representatives, and at the same time inform themselves about what politicians are doing in office. The ultimate goal is that, by offering fact-based and accessible information, people would strengthen their knowledge foundation, and this would enable them to make better informed political decisions, impacting the country’s political landscape

Random Challenge Generator : A creative Tool for Education

Education is the vehicle to achieve prosperity base of society, but nowadays this doesn’t guarantee having a good life. So far the quality education has declined according to current parameters. This has a reason that it can be easy perceived in education. Especially in Costa Rica there’s an education cultured oriented to perform exams and memorizing facts instead of learning for life. This quote about the situation in USA concerning to locate the Pacific Oceanis surprising in terms of a very general fact. However this is in a country that is called developed and invest more or the same that Costa Rica does in education. Even so, is alarming given the fact that according to international rankings like the one defined by The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) we perform below. Based on several authors like Ken Robinson, Linda Elder, and others I will depict the focus of current education system. Comparison with other high ranked countries as well will show that there are a lot of work to do but is possible. This research intends to find reasons why students are not learning how to learn, how students are becoming low-performance machines without develop Critical Thinking and just memorizing impressive amount of things that they are not sure how to use it for the future, or simply they just quit. Robinson established in 2013 during a TED Talk the children and teachers are encouraged to follow routine algorithms rather than to excite that power of imagination and curiosity. This is so important given that in the future and even now we need so much innovation, especially social innovation. We need to develop skills to co-exist in a sustainable environment. But how this will be possible if we don’t develop critical thinking to obtain these skills? This research seeks to find the reason or reasons of this. (...

    TRIP FICTION

It’s still always nice to listen to stories. Stories about animals, legends, warriors, beast and heroes have been told to us as children by people older than us. As children, we often pay attention to the storyteller until the end, even though sometimes we might fall asleep and dive into our dreams and continue the adventure with our own imagination. It´s a beautiful and important cultural aspect that has taught us life lessons and explained to us the phenomenon of the world. Storytelling started in the stone age and continues to be an important part of our lives even today. Today different kinds of media like television and films take these traditional and new stories to whole new level of storytelling. By just moving pictures edited in a “Vsevolod Pudovkin” logic and illustrated with music tells a lot and allows our brain to interpret the final meaning and the aim of the story. Unfortunately, these two main aspects, storytelling and technology, are no longer recognised as powerful agents in formulating the world that we live in. Human satisfaction is a hard goal to reach and mostly impossible as our needs never stop. In the beginning, man created tools for hunting in the stone age, then the steam engine, and now artificial intelligence; our needs have never stopped growing. It is a cycle; the more knowledge we gain, the more technology develops and gives us new skills and eventually new needs. Therefore, technology changes our behaviour and our way of interaction through devices, objects and media. In this dissertation, my focus is on the interaction with storytelling in movies in the future. I intend to analyse the influence of technology on filmmaking and how the interaction of the audience will play a key role in defining the narrative of a story. (...

    Responsive Environment

Environmental design integrate and embraces many disciplines including architectural, interior, landscape, urban planning, user experience design, graphic design, industrial design, behavioral design, and psychology all concerned to examine the relationship between human and environment. The field that explores both the influence of human to the environment and the influence of environment to human. In present decade, our spatial experience has been significantly transformed. Along with the rapid advances of technology, people tend to move further and more frequent than before. The need for a proper environment for living and personal development. As our environment in which we are living is getting diversified, there are increasing number of demand from decent living environment, means of transit, to a way we enjoy leisure time. This environmental tendency is not only provides us with comfort and life, but it also gives rise to stress and pressure. Thus, such an environment in anyway has a profound effect on our lives in a diverse way. While environment is not only affected by human behavior, the environment is also can determine human behavior. We can easily spot the footprint of human behavior on the amenities in the public space, like vandalism. Vandalism is generally defined as the act of damaging others property without intention to gain material benefit (B. Van Dijk, et. al., 1984). Vandalism involves graffiti, littering, shoplifting, and littering as well as other related crimes in the environment. A number of such strategies are aimed to deter unwanted behavior in the environment, for instance, ‘hostile architecture’. In this study, the research will focuses on how environment can shape human behavior. The thesis explores various aspects and strategies in order to understand as well as to develop new ideas of how to create certain behavior through environmental design. (...
