Inanimate Uncertainty
Get PDFI created a photo book of film photos shot of my friends with the inanimate object that they feel got them through quarantine. In a time of isolation and loneliness, people\u27s relationships with objects became much more intimate and they were less likely to take them for granted. Pink Platforms
Get PDFThis piece represents finding pride in femininity. Too often little girls are told that being feminine is synonymous with being weak, and not being taken seriously. Pink is usually seen as a color of softness, but in this piece I wanted to use a vibrant, hot pink that is not soft to the eyes in the slightest. I also wanted to use the subject matter of platform heeled boots, because platforms make me feel far more empowered than a simple pair of stilettos, which men seem to prefer. This piece is about learning to not only embrace the power and joy found in femininity, but also to be proud and unashamed of it. Increasing Awareness on Unhealthy Romantic Relationships for High School Students

Because adolescents have not yet developed healthy relationships, they may experience more relationship problems such as toxic dating environments and poor relationship expectations. When adolescents get training in healthy relationships, they can have better communication with their partner and practice healthy boundaries in relationships. Improving Self-Regulation Skills in Kindergarten Students

A lack of social emotional learning and self-regulation skills may result in children who may be unable to manage big emotions such as anger. Without the skills to process these big emotions, they may experience conflict in peer relationships leading to them potentially acting out. Children who learn social-emotional skills inherit self-regulation techniques that help combat emotional distress and encourage regulation. The Hidden History of Chicanx Literature and the Importance of Incorporating Chicanx Literature in the Curriculum
Get PDFThis essay will analyze and look into the issue in K-12 education where there is little representation of Chicanx students and a little talk about their culture, history, and novels to which they can relate. This essay will examine why Chicanx writers and books do not remain in the K-12 curriculum and how we can fix this. To answer the following questions and find a solution, I will examine the history of Chicanx students\u27 treatment in the educational system. I will also create a lesson plan catered to middle school/high school Chicanx students in which they will be able to connect and relate to and expose their peers to multicultural literature. It has been shown throughout the years that Chicanx students struggle to navigate the educational system because there needs to be more representation for Chicanx students; throughout the years, stories of Chicanx writers have been eliminated and silenced, and this essay discusses the importance of discussing these stories
Curriculum of Control: Stories from the Student Perspective
Get PDFIn a time where the public school setting draws comparisons to warzones—bullets flying, students barricading themselves behind desks—it is crucial we examine the landscape in which this unprecedented destruction is taking place. The current public conversations held in our democratic nation tend to surround gun rights, administrative procedures, and inadequate police responses. Finger pointing has been the fallback time and time again. As leaders of the NRA, local police forces, and legislating bodies stand at the end of our fingers, our children remain standing opposed to the barrels of loaded guns—often wielded by their peers. The conversation hasn’t ventured into why so many kids find themselves so distraught and hopeless that they would resort to such merciless violence. The conversation hasn’t gone near the reality that mental health issues of teenagers and young adults, such as depression and anxiety, is at an all-time high and continues to increase as the years go on. Should we be questioning a compulsory school system that was adopted from 18th century Prussia? A school system designed to produce herd mentality and a mass-producing labor force that simply doesn’t suit the times we now live in?
Through this collection of short stories, the landscape of the current public-school system is examined through the eyes of students subjugated to its subliminal conditioning on a daily basis. Class dynamics, curated curriculums, and the priority of obedience over autonomy all mix together to shape our youth into a mold that accepts dominance and the fabrication of ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal’. This conditioning is at the core of the crippling isolation that so many students feel today. The feeling of having no control over your life, the feeling of living for purposes assigned to you, has been normalized. It starts with our children, to ‘prepare them’ for adult life. High School Student Athletes: If Stress is the “Lock” is Communication the “Key”
Get PDFThe focus of this Capstone Project was meant to analyze the possible issues high school student-athletes may face academically as well as mentally while in school. This issue is important to note because there is an increase in students participating in sports and the offered school support should reflect the growing population. An argument that was found was the possible overlook of the mental well-being of the student-athletes if they are academically succeeding or are accomplished athletes. The primary stakeholder\u27s perspectives chosen were current high school student-athletes because they can provide insight into the current issues that student-athletes face. Three themes emerged from an analysis of the data: 1) Providing student-athletes with tutors, study programs, and other resources for academic support. 2) Seasonal mental health and time management training for teachers. 3) The creation of an online platform where teachers and coaches can keep track of the student\u27s grades, homework, tests, and schedules. Three action options have suggested the creation of an online platform for the streamlining of communication between teachers, coaches, and students. is argued to be the most effective way to achieve the goals of supporting high school student-athletes
