Increasing the Emotional Intelligence of College Students
Get PDFMany college students may lack well-developed interpersonal skills and may not yet have cultivated their emotional intelligence. Without developing skills surrounding emotional intelligence, college students may be hindered in the quality of their relationships as well as limited in their emotional connection. When they develop their relationship skills, they are able to foster their emotional growth and have more successful relationships. Evaluating Community Based Trauma Among Behavioral Health Workers
Get PDFDue to the national lack of service providers, current providers are experiencing high levels of stress/trauma because of workload, expectations, and the emotional toll these essential jobs have. Monterey County Behavioral Health Bureau is a public government agency that provides mental health services to the community. The purpose of this capstone is to allow clinicians to express the factors that contribute to the stressors of their jobs in hopes of creating change that will alleviate the trauma they experience. This project had three focus group interviews and one key informant interview that gave expected results based on the contributing factors of this social problem. As expected, clinicians that participated communicated high levels of stress and expressed the need for administrative support, but most importantly change. This change was identified as creating more administrative clinical assistants, a recruiter, easier documentation, as well as time for clinicians to focus on self-care without harming their productivity
Developing the Food Navigator role at Everyone\u27s Harvest
Get PDFEveryone’s Harvest (EH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that operates farmers’ markets. In order to reduce hunger in Monterey County, Everyone\u27s Harvest offers several food assistance programs for low-income people including the Market Match (MM) incentive program which matches CalFresh money, modern day food stamps, dollar for dollar. The problem is that in Monterey County 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 3 children are food insecure. The purpose of the Food Navigator (FN) at EH is to engage with the local community and connect low-income people with food assistance resources, primarily the MM program. This project was a role development and program monitoring project that focuses on developing a standardized operating procedure for the Food Navigator at Everyone’s Harvest. In addition to developing the role, this project included performing the Food Navigator role. Empirical evidence was collected and used to identify the impact of the Food Navigator at the farmers’ markets. The numbers of new and recurring MM participants were tracked and shopper satisfaction surveys were also conducted at the markets. Results suggested the FN manual will provide EH with a stable FN program. Analysis of survey and MM data indicated the FN had a positive effect on the number of new MM participants. Recommendations included continuing the FN internship at EH and hiring one FN at a 0.5 full-time equivalent (FTE)
Benefits of Multicultural Education on Diverse Student Populations
Get PDFThis senior capstone proves the benefits of multicultural education that promotes and brings about an inclusive and equitable education to all students, including diverse student populations. Through the use of literature review, interviews of two professors and educators, and surveys of college students, the result findings reveal that incorporating multicultural education approaches in the classrooms promotes inclusiveness that improves students’ learning experiences and academic performance in the classroom. It further fosters empathy among students. It is recommended that educators, school administrators, and pre-service teachers learn what multicultural education is and know how to implement it in the classrooms to benefit their diverse student populations
Creating Goals with Adolescent Teenagers

Get PDFCalifornia Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) is a law firm chain that resides in 22 counties here in California. Focusing on the issues of housing, education, transportation, workers’ rights, and benefits. Monterey County is facing a housing crisis resulting in residents being displaced. The project implemented to address this issue is an outreach presentation program. To advise students of fundamental tenancy rights in California. Using this method, the hope is that they can advocate for themselves and avoid exploitation in the future. The students and mentors from CRLA created the outreach program. Some recommendations to aid the housing crisis are to make fundamental housing rights known and to provide resources available that can assist afflicted populations in the county regarding housing and legal representation regarding housing should the need arise for an individual
Increasing Awareness of Diversity in High School Adolescence
Get PDFSome early adolescents may use harmful language, including racial, anti-LGBTQ+, and anti-women slurs, due to insufficient education on diversity awareness and the effects of using such language. Without addressing the use of harmful language, adolescents who are targets of the harmful language may feel ashamed of their identities. When adolescents have a better understanding of the impact of their words, they may become more conscientious of what they say and about the impact of their words on others.
