Improving Workers’ Effectiveness When Working with Unhoused Individuals
Get PDFWhen volunteering with individuals without housing, volunteers may not know what to expect or how to act when assisting this population. Without proper preparation, these volunteers may end up further marginalizing the population they are working with, putting themselves in danger, or failing to assist these human beings. When volunteers know more about how to assist these individuals in need, they can properly manage each client’s case and assist them in receiving proper aid. In order to address preparedness for volunteers working with these vulnerable populations, I have created an instructional video addressing proper rapport building, understanding needs and correct case management for new volunteers at Community Health Engagement in Salinas, California
Increasing Children’s Awareness of Art with a Message
No full textMany young children do not receive sufficient art education, especially around art with a message. Children who do not learn art, specifically art with a message, lack opportunities to express creativity, fail to learn the deeper meaning of works of art and are deprived of seeing art as a powerful influence on culture. Children taught about art and art with a message can learn to express their emotions and advocate for the environment through art. To address the lack of art education, I created a one-day workshop for elementary-school-aged children at Palenke Arts in Seaside, California

This research collects the experiences of Montessori and special needs teachers from the San Benito area. Along with the field research, my findings have indicated the benefits of the materials and environment of a Montessori classroom for special needs students. This study shows that the integration of Montessori pedagogy for special needs students proves beneficial in their academic and emotional development and a need to recognize alternative educational styles and their benefits for special needs students. To conclude by bringing light to Montessori pedagogy as a teaching style there are many benefits for a student’s development academically and socio-emotionally
Effect of School Breakfasts on Elementary School Student’s Overall Health
No full textElementary school students across districts are provided with free breakfasts on a daily basis, however, the mental, behavioral, and overall physiological health impacts of these meals are often overlooked. The purpose of my project is to provide an in-depth literature review that discusses the historical and legislative systems that have molded our modern school breakfast programs. Furthermore, I will yield an investigation towards two school populations: one privileged and one underserved. Such research will allow me to provide scholarly literature that elucidates how I, as a future professional educator, can mitigate the inequity gaps between these two populations. As seen in my findings, it can be indicated that students who consume school breakfasts are better off universally, due to the satisfaction of being satiated. This was found despite the meal programs\u27 need for improvement, in regards to quality and a lack of provisions towards meeting age-appropriate nutritional need
Parent Involvement: Breaking Barriers for Immigrants in K-12 Education
No full textThe focus of this Capstone Project is on parent involvement for non-English speaking parents and the roadblocks they may face. This is an essential issue because parental involvement is especially important to foster academic success for students. It is argued that the primary stakeholder perspectives chosen were non-English speaking parents, teachers, and former students. These stakeholder perspectives were chosen given the demographic location of the schools and population. Having a predominant immigrant and Hispanic population paved the way for the collection of data and understanding of the issue at hand. Three themes emerged from an analysis of the interview data. First, the language barrier is an important issue due to parents not speaking English which would present an issue when communicating with teachers and schools. Second, cultural differences can also affect parent-teacher relationships. Lastly, there’s no flexibility when it comes to the resources available to parents because the majority of parents are not able to attend certain events due to late working hours, lack of transportation, or childcare
Idiosyncrasy of the State and God: An Analysis on Religiosity and Ideology in Latin America
Get PDFIn this research paper, I will be analyzing the relationship between the religiosity of Latin America in terms of popular religion and religiosity of its followers, and how it has impacted and continues to impact the political systems of Latin America in terms of ideology. I will be conducting this research by conducting three case studies following the development of my hypothesis, my research of my case nations and the collecting of all needed data. After this, I will compare all my data and establish a well-developed conclusion which accurately conveys and demonstrates this data. My research will focus on answering this research question: How has religiosity impacted voting results for political parties of certain ideologies in Latin America? I am researching this subject to understand the intense and rapid political evolution of Latin America, in the context of religion and religiosity. To understand this change in the past century-and consequently be able to predict future development of ideology in Latin America- we need to understand the cultural change of Latin America and the cultural factors which impact ideology. I had two main hypotheses regarding my research- firstly, that an increase in Religiosity has led to an increase in votes for Revolutionary/Leftist parties in Latin America, and secondly that votes in elections in the 20th Century had a reactionary lean, but has since developed a revolutionary lean in the 21st Century. My research invalidated my first hypothesis and somewhat validated my second hypothesis, as there was very little correlation for support for leftist parties and religiosity. However, religiosity eventually did move from reactionary ideology closer to the center, and in some cases the center-left somewhat validating my second hypothesis that religiosity has gradually moved further left, albeit not as far left as predicted
