All of these have impacted our lives since their creation and have influenced our society for better or worse for educational or not so educational purposes. Media in all of its aspects have been around for many years and that has translated to every part of our society. We see a film and we quickly talk about its whether it was good or bad but we analyze it. This goes for everyone from children to teenagers to adults. Teenagers in high school watch a new show or listen to a new song from their favorite artist and the next day they quickly talk about it with their friends the next in school. In this day and age, a “trend” might start regarding anything teens see on tv. Not only tv but we live in the age of social media which has overtaken our lives. Every social media site now lives on our phones and just like that we can quickly access anything we need from news to music to literally anything. This has either been a bad thing or a good thing depending on what the information being received is being used for. It all depends on how that information is being deciphered. But there it is also Educational Media and this takes us back to the late 60’s early 70’s a time of change in our country leaving the 60s behind and entering the 70’s and a small tv show by the name of Sesame Street
At Least Eight Poems
Get PDFThis reflective essay displays the super thematic theme that\u27s clearly present on this project. It is at least eight poems, and you cannot dispute that claim. This project clearly was made to satisfy those college requirements, but I will admit that its theme is merely the theme of Stone. It is a sample of my perception, a slippery path that directs readers into my creative process and brisk way of thinking. If you ever get confused about what you’re reading, just remember, it all falls under the theme of stone; the rock without surface, clearly with depth. It’s a theme that clearly doesn’t give a rats tail about opinions, and that must be original right? Or am I just sounding insecure. I would ask more questions about it but oh my, I don\u27t care.
When it comes to the aesthetics, I was going for a collection of poems that really shows off my quirky ideas and nonsensical ways of communicating. There ain’t much to the format with these poems, except for a few. My Human Zoo Blues was based off of a Captain Beefheart song called China Pig, kinda obvious when you compare the lyrics. Truck Drivin’ Man was based on a Ghazal assignment I had in one of my past poetry classes, but I decided to make it questions cause why not, I assume it would make it harder for people to read. The medley of poems that are supposed to go into one another (it should be obvious) come from the idea of musical medleys, which I do enjoy during a live performance. Everything else is just a dude wanting to paint with words. They’re as powerful as you make them to be.
I assume my audience is mainly my family members, my friends, and those who come across this muddy collection of honesty. I’m honestly just trying to mess around with the rules and grammar of poetry, while also attempting to sound lame as hell (heck) within those boundaries. My work is intended to inspire and to make you break out in dance. I hope it can leave them as confused as when I was finalizing the final draft. If I felt too confident in it, I would’ve pulled it from the project right away. I just wanna provoke the minds of peeps who have no opinion for poetry, and give them a good reason not to ever read poetry, by reminding them how much bad poetry is out there! No but in all honesty, I just wanna make poems that aren’t so down and depressing. Most of the time I hear poets say that their trauma got them into writing poetry, and it’s evident within their work. This gives me a depressing eye sore whenever I read about someone’s daddy issues (no judgment to them however). I want to make poems that sound like they have some grand meaning, but I also want a passing grade. So imagine this reflects every being of my soul, every experience that’s left a crude tear in my eye, and some smoke in my lungs.
My process was pretty simple:
Get an idea for a poem
Dance around with it for a couple of months
Finish it when it’s not finished
“Hey that’ll look great on my capstone project!”
It’s pretty simple stuff really. I tried to remove the cringiest poems from my final draft, but I left some in there just to humble myself. I don’t want too many people thinking I actually know what I memorize, even memories can be yoinked around and exaggerated. When it comes to solving my creative problems, I usually have to let that headache pass before a concise answer forms in my brain, and half of the time, that answer is, “Ah I’ll just leave it up for interpretation.” Quite riveting ain’t it?
My project anchors a strong understanding of Feminist Theory, which carefully analyzes gender inequality, and other forms of discrimination. At least eight of these poems carefully reflect my perception of feminist theory growing around my beliefs and my environment. Discussing a wide range of topics that may seem baffling to the common giraffe, but I shape my work to be an amusing yet odd understanding of the theory at hand, while trying to have fun with it. I also wrestle with what I believe is my identity, or at least, what trends I follow that make me seem like an individual.
Capstone class was alright, but oh boy, would I not want to retake this course again

Impact of Culture on Students’ Academic Achievement in the Classroom

Understanding that culture has many meanings is critical to have an insight into how it can impact student, classroom, and teacher-student interactions. To carry this, four teachers/ Professors were interviewed, and student surveys were created. Understanding that culture is part of students\u27 identity is essential, also how family finances influence them, a welcoming environment, and creating relationships of care and trust impact students\u27 academic achievement. Finding a way to bring everyone together for cultural understanding is essential, and understanding how culturally sustainable pedagogies can help students. Culture influences student aspirations, and if students feel that they are not taken into account or not expected to succeed, they will probably feel less care for their academic outcomes

Hispanic Human Capital and Financial Aid Application in the West Census Region
Get PDFAs of 2021, very few Hispanic residents in the United States held a college degree in comparison to non-Hispanic residents. Research has shown that, particularly for Hispanic students, financial aid increases college persistence. Hispanic Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submission rates rank among the lowest, preventing many Hispanic students from receiving financial assistance. This issue is most prevalent West Census Region (WCR), where there is the highest concentration of Hispanic residents. To understand what barriers may be preventing Hispanic submission in the WCR this Capstone used logistic regression models to analyze student-level data from the National Center for Education Statistic’s High School Longitudinal Study of 2009. Barriers were assessed regarding human capital, as its subtypes have been shown to greatly effect university-related behaviors. Results indicated that, for Hispanic students in the WCR, economic capital had no significant effect on submission but cultural and social capital in the form of parental values, parental aid discussion, and aid counseling had a significant effect. The effects of capital on submission differed between races/ethnicities, affirming the results of prior research studying the relationship between race/ethnicity, capital, and university-related behavior. These results suggest that FAFSA assistance should be centered around parental outreach and aid counseling within high schools, ensuring Hispanic students have access to trusted sources of aid information
The Underdiagnosis of ADHD in Children of Color
Get PDFAttention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a disorder that remains underdiagnosed in children of color. I originally argued that the underdiagnosis of ADHD in children of color may be the result of their parents’ and teachers’ lack of knowledge about the disorder. I also provided evidence supporting that another reason for the underdiagnosis of ADHD in children of color may be from racism among their teachers. My research concluded that both sides of my argument were valid and potential reasons for why there is an underdiagnosis of ADHD in children of color
Analysis of Trace Volatile Compounds Emitted from Flat Ground and Formed Bed Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation in Strawberry Field Trials on California’s Central Coast
Get PDFAnaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) is emerging globally as an alternative to fumigant pesticides. To investigate ASD mechanisms, we monitored microbially produced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other volatile gases in situ using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. Study plots infested with Fusarium oxysporum, Macrophomina phaseolina, and/or Verticillium dahliae included: organic flat ground (fASD, 6.7 + 13.5 megagrams per hectare, Mg/ha, rice bran/broccoli) and uncovered soil treated with mustard seed meal (MSM, 3.4 Mg/ha) at one site performed in fall of 2018; formed bed (bASD, 20 Mg/harice bran), control (UTC) and fumigant (FUM) at a second field site in fall of 2019 and 2021. Here, we present VOC diversity and temporal distribution. fASD generated 39 VOCs and GHGS, including known pathogen suppressors: dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide, and n-butylamine. bASD produced 17 VOCs and greenhouses gases (GHGs), 12 of which were also detected in fASD but in greater concentrations. Plant mortality and wilt score (fASD: 3.75% ± 4.79%, 2.8 ± 0.8; MSM: 6.25% ± 12.50%, 2.7 ± 0.3; bASD: 61.27% ± 11.26%, 4.1 ± 0.5; FUM: 13.89% ± 7.17%, 2.3 ± 0.2; UTC: 76.63% ± 25.11%, 4.3 ± 1.0) were significantly lower for fASD and MSM versus bASD and UTC (p \u3c 0.05). Only FUM was not statistically different from fASD and MSM, and was significantly lower than UTC and bASD (bASD-FUM, p \u3c 0.05; UTC-FUM, p \u3c 0.05). The cumulative strawberry yield from bASD-treated plots was not different from FUM or UTC (bASD: 60.3 ± 13.6; FUM: 79.4 ± 9.19; UTC: 42.9 ± 12.4 Mg/ha). FUM yield was significantly greater than UTC (p = 0.005). These results, and to a far greater extent, additional challenges faced during both bASD trials, suggest that bASD is not as effective or as feasible at maintaining overall plant health as fASD or traditional fumigants. However, differences in management practices and environmental conditions at both sites across years cannot be fully excluded from consideration and many of our observations remain qualitative in nature
