Automation of Quality Control in Diagnostic Toxicologic Pathology Using Artificial Intelligence
Poster presented at Research Experiences for Undergraduates, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro, NC
This poster explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning (DL) in digital pathology, specifically in the process of digitizing histologic tissue sections mounted on glass slides. The use of AI models has enhanced the ability of pathologists to interpret pathologic lesions with greater accuracy and efficiency. Tissue features, such as staining, lesions, morphology, and architecture, can be quantified as visual data through computational analysis. However, the presence of artifacts or imperfections—such as tissue folds, out-of-focus areas, and poor tissue quality—can compromise the reliability of data generation. Currently, Quality Control (QC) procedures to identify unsuitable slides for histopathological evaluation and AI analysis are performed manually, which is both time-consuming and labor-intensive. This research suggests that AI and DL technologies could be leveraged to automate these QC tasks, streamlining diagnostic toxicologic pathology workflows.https://digital.library.ncat.edu/undergraduate-research-posters/1013/thumbnail.jp
Older adults’ participation in physical activity (PA) is influenced by their functional ability, perceived risks, and environmental factors, with motivation driven by health benefits, social interactions, and positive self-identification as exercisers
Poster presented at the HBCU Aging Conference
This poster explores factors that influence physical activity (PA) participation in older adults aged 70 and above, addressing the well-documented benefits of PA and the barriers that prevent sufficient engagement. Using the COM-B model, the review examines the capability, opportunity, and motivation factors affecting PA in community-dwelling older adults (n=4,978, mean age 79). By analyzing 25 qualitative studies, the research identifies both motivators and obstacles to PA, offering insights into effective intervention strategies. The poster emphasizes the importance of addressing all three COM-B factors in PA interventions and highlights key limitations, such as the lack of diversity in the sample. Future research directions focus on understanding PA influences in diverse and underserved populations.https://digital.library.ncat.edu/undergraduate-research-posters/1007/thumbnail.jp
