    Get PDF
INTRODUCTIONThe Pakistan government has been under severe pressure from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and International Intellectual Property Alliance to tighten its anti-piracy regime. In 2000, IIPA recommended Pakistan to be placed on the watch list of major violators of international intellectual property legislation. According to IIPA, Pakistani copyright law is TRIPS-incompatible. The Alliance called for a TRIPS-compatible draft that should take into account new technologies including implementation of provisions of WIPO treaties like WCT and WPPT

This paper presents the findings of a controlled study on the persuasion effectiveness of the use of pseudo-scientific jargon in advertising. I study the consumer reactions to the use of pseudo-scientific jargons in advertising and explicitly examine the advertisement persuasiveness in terms of consumers’ purchase intention

TOWARDS THEORISING POSTMODERN ACTIVISM: A FOUCAULDIAN PERSPECTIVE

    Get PDF
The purpose of the paper is to alert to a specific danger confronted by the postmodern supposedly anti capitalist movements. Referring to the work of Michel Foucault I try to demonstrate that specific danger in terms of the double character of freedom. Freedom according to Foucault is not only a principle of diversity but also a tool of management. Ignoring the management aspect of freedom and merely considering it as a ‘way out’ leads to the incoporation of these movements within the same power constellations against which they are struggling. I make my case through first situating postmodern struggles within an overall schema derived from the work of Michel Foucault. The working of the double bind of freedom in capitalist societies is described through a brief look at how the subjectivisation regime works in capitalism. In this context it is suggested that postmodern movements supposedly are aimed at creating a new subjectivity - a subjectivity that can break out of the double bind of the capitalist subjectivisation regime. However these movements fail precisely on this account. They more than often turn into, what Foucault pejoratively called liberation movements

    1. ObjectivesThis study analyses• Structural change in Pakistani exports during 1992 – 2005. A comparison is made between the period 1992 – 1998 and the period 1999 – 2005. Has there been a significant change in the structure (i.e. commodity composition) of exports during this period?• Exports are categorized into ‘Core’, ‘Development’ and ‘Other’ categories (as defined by EPB). Are exports with high world elasticities of demand growing more rapidly? These exports are mainly grouped within the ‘development’ and ‘all other’ categories by the EPB.Exports are also grouped by end use. The categorization enables us to identify product markets towards which Pakistani exports are targeted
