Project Manager Motivation: Job Motivators And Maintenance Factors
The present study explored the applicable motivation factors that contribute to job satisfaction in terms of job motivators and maintenance factors when working on projects. The researchers asked students enrolled in a university advanced project management leadership course to respond to a job motivators and maintenance factors factor self- assessment. This tool is useful in determining the factors that contribute to motivation when working on projects (Lusser & Achua, 2016). The researchers then conducted a chi-square test to determine whether the observed values were significantly different from an expected value of 18, which is the midpoint. The chi-square goodness of fit test led to the rejection of H10 and the acceptance of H1a. with a p<.001. Additionally, the chi-square goodness of fit test led to the acceptance of H20 and the rejection of H2a. with a p=.994. The self-assessment revealed that the students tended to exhibit higher motivator scores and lower maintenance scores. The findings of this study have significant implications for leadership behavior when leading project teams. These findings can also contribute to a better understanding of the motivation factors that characterize team members for the completion of successful projects
The PCAOB Audit Quality Indicator Framework Project: Feedback From Stakeholders
Audit Quality Indicators (AQIs), as defined by the Center for Audit Quality, include four different elements:firm leadership and tone at the top; engagement team knowledge, experience, and workload; monitoring; and auditor reporting. AQIs are quantitative and qualitative measures designed to improve audit quality and help audit committees select the best audit firm for their current needs. They are intended to increase the reliability and accuracy of financial reporting. The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has issued a concept release proposing twenty-eight potential AQIs for use in the United States. The PCAOB release describes the AQI reporting framework and asks for public opinion on whether or not it should be implemented. This study reviews the comment letters in response to PCAOB Docket 041,Concept Release on Audit Quality Indicators, and the AQI reporting frameworks currently in place in the United Kingdom, Singapore, and other countries. After reviewing the PCAOB’s proposed AQI framework, response letters to Docket 041, and the AQI frameworks used in other countries, this paper provides an opinion on how the PCAOB should proceed with the AQI framework initiative in the U.S. The analysis suggests that AQI reporting should not be mandated in the U.S., but should become a flexible and voluntary framework that provides valuable information, enhances transparency in the audit profession, and establishes a commitment to the improvement of audit quality
Influence Of Organisational Culture On Strategy Execution In A South African Organisation
Purpose: This study examines the effects of nine dimensions of organisational culture (uncertainty avoidance; gender egalitarianism; assertiveness; institutional collectivism; in-group collectivism; humane, future and achievement orientation; and power distance) on the dimensions of strategy execution (information sharing, leadership, rewards, performance, structure, employee commitment and coordination) within a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company.Design: A survey questionnaire covering demographics, organisational culture and strategy execution was distributed electronically. Following assessment of reliability and validity of the 281 completed questionnaires, Pearson correlation and a canonical correlation analyses were conducted using the nine dimensions of culture as predictors of strategy execution variables, to evaluate the multivariate shared relationship between the two variable sets.Findings: The findings indicate that the dimensions of organisational culture have a variation of strong, medium and weak associations with the dimensions of strategy execution. Achievement orientation was found to have the highest effect on strategy execution dimensions and the future planning orientation the second highest.Research limitations/implications: The major limitation was that the population was represented by one large organisation in the South African FMCG industry, thereby excluding other companies in this country and the results may not necessarily be generalised to other populations. Future studies could include more industries and countries.Practical implications: This study provides evidence that company management must place considerable emphasis on developing organisational culture dimensions that have a positive impact on strategy execution.Originality/value: The study reveals that achievement and future planning orientated cultures have a significant influence on strategy execution
The Association Among Structural Quality, Operational Competence And Emergency Outpatient Visits: A Longitudinal Analysis Of US Community Hospitals
The aim of the current study is to enhance our understanding on how hospital’s structural quality and operational competence can influence the emergency outpatient visits. We use a large database acquired from the American Hospital Association. The database has state-wide data on several health care quality parameters of interest over an extended period of 17 years starting from 1994 till 2010 for all community hospitals in the US. (4,926 community hospitals). Structural quality is captured by a measure of bed availability and usage. Operational competence is measured by the expense per capita. Finally, data on emergency outpatient visits is our outcome measure. We found that there is a significant negative association between structural quality and emergency outpatient visits. Similarly, there is a significant negative association between hospital operational performance and emergency outpatient visits. It is confirmed in this study that at high level of operational performance, increasing the structural quality will be associated with lower emergency outpatient visits. The interaction effect between structural quality and operational performance on emergency outpatient visits is also significant. As such, structural quality of hospitals can reduce emergency outpatient visits. Hospitals endeavor to improve its operational performance also reduces emergency outpatient visits. Joint emphasis on improving bed utilization and improving operational performance can further decrease emergency outpatient visits

At the same time, we may also encounter students who suffer trauma during their college experience. Measuring Small Business Customer Satisfaction
Most family owned small businesses are so concerned about keeping the doors open on a daily basis that not a lot of time is spent on researching their customer satisfaction. As well, funds for such marketing research are often limited. Trying to keep personal bias out of such research is difficult. Thanks to the Ultimate Question/Net Promoter Score now there is a simple way to measure customer satisfaction by asking a single question. Can this work for a small dance business in mid-Michigan
Investigating The Challenges Of E-Learning In A Developing Institution Of Higher Learning: A Hypothetical Approach
The popularity of e-learning (EL) largely infiltrated into every sector of South African institutions of higher learning. This growing interest in EL is due to the advent of rapid internet technologies. For decades, South African institutions of higher learning have accepted EL as a vital learning tool for the enhancement of learning and teaching within the higher education sector. However, there are countless challenges that continue to hinder learning and teaching activities. This study seeks to determine the relationships between various challenges and EL capabilities through stated hypotheses. The study is a descriptive, qualitative design aided by a quantitative approach that were applied to collect data. In total 150 full and part-time ICT students including four permanent ICT lecturers participated in the study. By means of statistical methods of descriptive, inferential statistics aided by independent t-tests, three stated hypotheses were formulated and tested. The study therefore, recommends that higher institutions of learning should increase investments in various EL programs including relevant ICT infrastructure development and also in levels of connectivity. The study further recommends that EL contents should be designed taking into account the cultural characteristics of students
The Bank For International Settlements: An Evolutionary Institution
Established in 1930 in Basel, Switzerland, to expedite and supervise the payment of reparations by Germany to the victors of World War I, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) quickly evolved into a banking establishment for various national central banks to negotiate and work out mutually-beneficial monetary policies and financial arrangements outside of the usual political and national channels. During World War II the BIS stayed open as a neutral central bank for central banks and provided significant back-channel communications between the Allied and Axis powers that could not have occurred any other way. As an example, discussions for the reconstruction of post-WWII Germany were underway between German and Allied representatives to the BIS at least two years prior to Germany’s surrender in May 1945. The post-WWII BIS then went on to become a global central bank for the world’s national central banks. In spite of the BIS holding so much effective financial power on an international scale and, hence, affecting nearly everyone in the world, few have ever heard of the BIS. This includes many economists and financial-economists. Why? Although technically not a secret organization, the BIS has always maintained an intentionally low profile. The BIS has never advertised its existence. It operates through many other organizations it has either directly created or where it holds major influence. This paper discusses the BIS, its history, and its impact and influence on world events. Questions concerning the role the BIS should possibly play in world events and central banking are raised for discussion near the end of this paper.

However, other courses, to include those outside of the financial-economic arena, can find great use for this subject matter as well. A Study Of Employee Perceptions About Performance Appraisal At Transnet Engineering, South Africa
Transnet Engineering is a division of Transnet, which is a key South African state owned enterprise that is responsible for providing railroad, freight and logistics services to South African and international business enterprises. Transnet Engineering is located at Koedoespoort, just outside Pretoria, South Africa. This manuscript is a result of data gathered from 198 employees of Transnet Engineering as part of an attempt made by the company to describe and quantify the perception held by employees of Transnet Engineering on the degree to which the performance of appraisal system used by the company for performance appraisal was suitable enough for its intended purpose. The perception of employees was measured by using a benchmark defined by Pichler (2012) in which similar measurements were made under near-identical circumstances. All measurements were taken based on a standardised, validated and pre-tested instrument. Pearson’s two-by-two chi-squared tests of associations, discriminant analysis and logit regression were used for analyses. The study found that about 63% of participants were happy with the performance appraisal system used by the company, whereas about 37% of participants held a negative perception. The results confirmed that the perception of employees about the performance appraisal system used at Transnet Engineering was affected by the perception of employees on fairness, and the assessment of performance of employees based on key performance indicators. Findings obtained from the study are quite relevant and valuable to all other South African state owned enterprises
