Academic Motivation And Self-Regulated Learning In Predicting Academic Achievement in College
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to determine whether academic motivation and academic self-regulated learning predicted students’ GPAs in the Early Childhood Education Department. The study participants consisted of 166 early childhood education majors enrolled in the 2014 spring semester at Georgia Southern University, USA. Data were gathered using the “academic motivation scale” developed by Vallerand et al. (1992), and the “academic self-regulated learning scale” developed by Mango (2010). The study’ s results showed that there was no correlation between GPA and academic motivation and academic self-regulation learning. In other words, the students’ academic motivation and academic self-regulated learning total scores, together, did not predict their GPA.
Predicting Academic Success Using Admission Profiles
Get PDFThis study, conducted at a tertiary education institution in Israel, following two previous studies, was designed to deal again with a question that is a topic of debate in Israel and worldwide: Is there justification to the approach that considers restrictive university admission policies an efficient tool for predicting students’ success at the end of their first year of studies and at the conclusion of their requirements for an undergraduate degree. This study reviews the spread of higher education in and outside Israel in recent years, and discusses the institution of admission policies as a response to the gap between the high demand for studies and the limited supply. This study discusses a diverse list of admission policies that offered admission based on students’ success at the end of their first year of studies and at the fulfillment of their requirements for an undergraduate degree. This study also reviews the debate in and outside Israel on whether restrictive admission policies have fulfilled the hopes pinned on them. Finally, the study conducted a detailed study of the effectiveness of different admission policies in the various faculties of the institution in question, and found no systematic connection between admission policies and students’ actual achievements (measured by the grade average at the end of their first year and their grade average for their degree)
Teachers Awareness And Usage Of Non-Violent Strategies For The Maintenance Of Discipline In Nigerian Secondary Schools: A Situational Analysis
Get PDFThis study sought to determine teachers level of awareness and usage of non-violent strategies/interventions for the maintenance of discipline in secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. Corporal punishment has become an unwritten sine qua non for the maintenance of school discipline - often the first thought that comes to the minds of teachers in treating acts of indiscipline and deviance. From the Nnewi Education Zone, comprising four local government areas (LGAs), 200 teachers were selected for descriptive survey out of 996 teachers. Stratified random sampling was used such that the schools were stratified into co-educational and single-sex schools, and from each randomly selected school, 10 teachers were selected. Two research questions and four null hypotheses guided this study, and questionnaire was used to collect data. The mean was used to answer the research questions and t-test for the hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance. The study recommended in-service training for teachers in educational psychology, particularly behaviour modification methods, parental input and interest in school discipline as well as the cessation of corporal punishment among others

Get PDFThe mission of the military exchange program is to (1) provide quality merchandise to military members and their families worldwide at competitive prices, and (2) generate income to support military morale, welfare, and recreation (MWR) programs. In overseas locations the military exchanges provide military members and their families with familiar competitively-priced, top-quality American products and services, priced in US dollars. The military exchanges are agencies of the US Department of Defense (DOD). The exchanges are tax free stores. This tax advantage, in concert with the exchanges competitive pricing, helps make the products and services offered affordable for military members on their all-too-often meager salaries. Profits from the military exchanges are channeled to MWR programs benefiting military personnel and their families worldwide. However, could and should military exchange functions be contracted to commercial businesses that are actually in the business of retail? The purpose of DOD is national defense, not retail sales and the related logistics. While the original need for establishing a military-operated exchange program was valid many years ago when the commercial sector was not capable supporting worldwide military operations and operating locations, is that still the case? Could a negotiated contract with a major commercial retailer provide service members and their families with better products, at better prices, and with better service, all at reduced cost to the US government, hence reduced cost the US taxpayers
