The Influence Of Job Stress On The Components Of Organisational Commitment Of Health Care Personnel In The Eastern Cape Province South Africa
Get PDFHealth care personnel are often exposed to strenuous working conditions due to their nature of work. The study assessed whether job stress affects the organisational commitment of employees within the health institutions. A quantitative design was used; the sample consisted of 141 respondents from selected public health institutions within the Nkonkobe Municipality Region, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Cluster sampling was used to select the hospitals and then the simple random sampling was used to select the sample from the cluster. Pearson Correlation Analysis was used to solicit the sought relationships. Results of the study showed significant relationships between job stress and organisational commitment showing that job stress has an effect on the commitment of workers. These findings are helpful and useful to the health department in implementing policies and procedures that will reduce job stress in employees in order to ensure that high levels of commitment towards the organisation are maintained for optimal success
Accounting Information Systems: A View from the Public Eye
Get PDFIn order to fully appreciate the potential impact accounting information systems have on the accounting profession, an understanding of what accounting encompasses is necessary. Over the years, accounting has evolved from what many would call a “checks and balance” system to a much more complex system involving complicated activities such as calculating taxes and garnishments, auditing financial statements and processing payroll to name a few. It would be reasonable to think that advanced technology such as accounting information systems would only enhance the production of these activities. However, like with any “game changers,” there are always potential threats involved. The objective of this paper is to determine if accounting information systems have become so helpful, they in fact have begun to hinder business and decrease productivity. This paper demonstrates that although a majority population of those surveyed felt accounting information systems have added credibility to the accounting profession, there is still a large population that remain neutral on the subject leaving doubt as to the advantages and purpose of accounting information systems
An Assessment Of Clean Development Mechanism Project Contribution To Sustainable Development In Nigeria
Get PDFA Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a market-based climate change instrument used to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. CDM’s have become popular in many developing countries, however given the materially skewed distribution of CDM projects in developing countries it not clear whether CDM projects contribute materially to environmental and economic sustainable development in developing countries. This study examines the effect of CDM on sustainable development in Nigeria by reviewing sample of working CDM projects in Nigeria against globally established sustainable development criteria. Possible amendments to CDM policy are then reviewed based on the findings made during the study.
Empowering Patients With A Hotline To The Chief Nursing Officer
Get PDFThe purpose of this nursing research study was to explore the perceptions of patients who were provided with a direct line of communication via a “hotline” to the Chief Nursing Officer in order to provide them with a voice in decisions which directly involve their care.Qualitative analysis revealed recurring themes identifying the “hotline” as reassuring, and offering a level of security. Another theme involved the patients relating situations that needed to be remedied including noise within the hospital environment, waiting for pain medication or using the call light without receiving assistance in a timely manner. Some calls to the hotline centered on compliments for the nursing staff. The findings from this phenomenological study which viewed the hospital world through the lens of patients' eyes have many implications for nursing practice. Implications for nursing practice include enhanced communication among nurses and patients, increased patient satisfaction with their health care experience and improved staff satisfaction in the acute care environment. A hotline to the chief nursing officer is only one way to ensure that the patients’ voices are heard and acted upon but this direct line of communication was found to be an effective tool.
Interdisciplinary Team-Teaching Experience For A Computer And Nuclear Energy Course For Electrical And Computer Engineering Students
Get PDFA new, interdisciplinary, team-taught course has been designed to educate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) so that they can respond to global and urgent issues concerning computer control systems in nuclear power plants. This paper discusses our experience and assessment of the interdisciplinary computer and nuclear energy course, which was developed and offered primarily to ECE students at Howard University. A unique team-teaching model utilized with ECE professors and nuclear field experts was applied to teach the two diverse subjects: computer safety and nuclear energy. The survey result from the first offering of the course showed a very positive response from the majority of the students about the team-teaching method and the knowledge acquired on the two subjects
Skill-Based Teaching For Undergraduate STEM Majors
Get PDFThis article presents a case study that illustrates the paradigmatic shift in higher education from content-centered teaching to learning-centered academic programs. This pragmatic change, triggered by the STEM movement, calls for the introduction of success measures in the course development process. The course described in this paper illustrates such a goal-driven approach to the development of an entire multidisciplinary curriculum in mechanical engineering and mechatronics. The effectiveness of this new curriculum was confirmed by findings of a survey of graduates of the first six graduating classes who studied on the basis of this curriculum.
Self-Efficacy In Online Learning Environments: A Literature Review
Get PDFThe purpose of this paper was to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and online learning environments. Self-efficacy refers to “beliefs in one’s capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to produce given attainments” (Bandura, 1997, p. 3). This paper reviews studies on self-efficacy in online learning environments from 1997 to 2015. Three main categories were discussed: computer self-efficacy, Internet and information-seeking self-efficacy and LMS (Learning Management Systems) self-efficacy. Possible areas of research on self-efficacy in online learning environments were suggested.
Building Collegiate E-Loyalty: The Role Of Perceived Value In The Quality-Loyalty Linkage In Online Higher Education
Get PDFE-service quality of online higher education reflects the student’s perception of quality of online exchanges across four dimensions: fulfillment, efficiency, system availability and privacy. This study links e-service quality to intentions to remain loyal as mediated by perceived value in an online higher education environment. AMOS is used to examine the structural model based on responses to a student self-report online survey (n=127). Results indicate a strong causal linkage between e-S-QUAL and Loyalty Intentions as mediated by Perceived Value. Further, the direct linkage between e-S-QUAL and Loyalty Intentions was found to be insignificant, substantiating the proposed full mediation model

A Perception Study Of Computer Science And Information Systems Students On Bullying Prevalence In The Information Systems Profession
Get PDFBullying is considered to be omnipresent in business firms and prevalent in entrepreneurial firms in information systems and in departments of information systems in industry. Entrepreneurialism and narcissism of personalities in the information systems profession may be perceived as especially predisposed to bullying. The authors of this paper evaluate the knowledge of bullying by students in a leading school of computer science and information systems and learn that the students are essentially knowledgeable of bullying as a concern in industry. They learn that the knowledge of the students implies the importance of requisite sensitivity and professional standards in the profession and in the school. The paper may benefit educators in illuminating the issue of bullying for information systems students desiring to be in the profession.
