This study is not designed to provide all information, but to supplement class research in order to determine what happened and what should have happened. Available research offers numerous issues and plenty of blame, but no definitive answers

Dramatic Play In Relation To Self- Regulation In Preschool Age

This study aims to investigate the relationship between dramatic play and self-regulation in preschool age. The descriptive correlational methodology is utilized using three tools: dramatic play questionnaire, self-regulation scale (Head, Toes, Knees, and Shoulders), and children’s interviews. The sample of the study consists of 60 children aged 4-6 years. Quantitative analysis is done using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The interviews with children are qualitatively analyzed calculating frequency, and percentage of coded data. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between dramatic play and self-regulation. Besides, it is found that self-regulation could be predicted through the dimension of interactions with others during dramatic play. The study also proves a defect in the quality of dramatic play in terms of social interaction, symbolism, and themes and roles practiced by children. In the light of these results, the researchers suggest that mothers and teachers’ awareness of the importance of quality dramatic play should be enhanced, to enable them to allow and plan for quality play. Also, allowing flexibility in preschool programs could support teachers’ efforts in enhancing play engagement and development. Finally, this study has facilitated further research in the Arabian region, since it highlighted a valid, cross-cultural tool for measuring self-regulation in the Arabic language

Financial Closing Time, IT Capability, And Quarterly Earnings Patterns

This study examines whether superior Informational Technology Capability (ITC) is associated with a shorter financial closing time for publicly traded companies. We also compare patterns of late-year adjustment of quarterly earnings between ITC and non-ITC companies. ITC firms appear to have shorter financial closing times and seem to have a reduced probability to exhibit late-year earnings reversals

A Marketing Course And The Liberal Arts: Students’ Perspective Of Interdisciplinary Relevance

This study examines students’ reflections on how concepts covered in a marketing course are applied to the broader liberal arts curriculum. The objective was to demonstrate when given a chance with an Interdisciplinary Reflection Assignment, students can articulate interdisciplinary relevance. The study collected sample data from six classes over three years. The assignment embodies the areas of metacognition, reflection, and integration of interdisciplinary knowledge.A content analysis approach was utilized to review both quantitative and qualitative data. Students’ comments are categorized as follows: 32 in “Humanities & Fine Arts”; 31 in “Natural Sciences & Mathematics”; 93 in “Social Sciences & History”; 6 in “Professional Studies” (College, 2019). The assignment results strongly suggest that, when asked, students can articulate the integration of a business marketing course with other liberal arts subject areas. Thus, demonstrating business has a legitimate place in the liberal arts curriculum. This study contributes to education literature by providing a specific pedagogical example that can be easily replicated by other educators at other higher education institutions. The assignment offers added value to enhance student learning and appreciation of how marketing concepts integrate with other academic disciplines

    Fluency Strategies For Beginning Readers

Fluency in reading is crucial for comprehension of the written word. Traditionally we concentrate on fluency once a child is a proficient reader. However, fluency is a skill that can be successfully addressed with beginning readers. This article presents practical strategies to help beginning readers become fluent readers. Of course, these strategies are effective with proficient readers, however, the earlier we begin to use them, the sooner children will internalize the concept of fluency and practice it. These strategies are also effective with second language learners

The Implementation Of The Epstein’s Model As A Partnership Framework At Saudi Kindergartens

The aim of the study is to reveal the implementation of a partnership framework at Saudi kindergartens in accordance to the Epstein’s Model which is considered from the perceptions of Kindergartens’ female teachers. Analytical descriptive methodology was employed, and the study sample included 48 public kindergartens’ teachers and 44 private kindergartens’ teachers in Jeddah city, Saudi Arabia. The study tools included a questionnaire that was related to the six fields of Epstein’s Model including; parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision making, and collaborating with community. The results revealed that implementation of a partnership framework at Saudi kindergartens in accordance to the Epstein’s Model were overall average. There were no statistically significant differences between the means of implementing partnership’s frameworks in Saudi Arabian kindergartens with its six fields, which attributed to the specific type of Kindergarten (Public – Private). The significant recommendation of the study is formulating partnerships between community institutions and kindergartens to arrange recreational, educational and social programs after school hours, which would be beneficial for children and their families

Disney And The Magical World Of Writing; How Combining Creativity With Learning Disabilities Can Promote Academic Success

Through a Disney perspective, this author discusses how students can use creative strategies to cope with learning disabilities in secondary, post-secondary and even graduate levels of academic achievement. In particular, the paper will be presenting how the author, who has an infinity for “everything Disney”, chose to use both Disney Characters and Disney Song titles from movies and television shows, as a creative strategy in the organization of her master’s research thesis. The research study entitled “Why is it so hard to go a good thing? The Paradox and Dilemma of Parental Advocacy within the Individual Education Planning Process” took a qualitative, phenomenological approach to investigate the experiences of parental advocacy and to seek out macro/micro factors that may have contributed to positive or negative outcomes within the IEP process. The author used Disney song titles as an adaptive tool not only to help in the organization of the findings of the research, but also to help illuminate the phenomenological existential themes that were revealed through the analysis. The paper hopes to demonstrate that through the use of creative strategies in otherwise conventional academic expectations, students experiencing disabilities may increase the potential of achieving academic success

Applied Dynamics In School And Practice

Mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, and related educational programs are not addressing in a sufficient way the principles associated with applying analytical investigations in solving actual engineering problems. Because of this, graduates do not have the adequate skills required to use the methods of applied dynamics in the process of analyzing mechanical systems. These methods allow one to obtain an understanding of the role of the parameters of a system and to carry out a purposeful control of the values of these parameters with the goal to achieve the desired performance. Engineering and engineering technology programs pay very little attention to addressing these steps. It should be stressed that these programs do not offer a universal straightforward methodology of solving linear differential equations of motion that allow revealing all important interrelationships between the aspects of the engineering problem. It is difficult to formulate the reasons why there is such a low interest in applying the analytical approach in order to reveal the interrelationships between decisive aspects of the operational process of an engineering system in order to achieve the desired goal. Actually, there is almost a complete silence with regard to this issue. Hence, we assume that the first reason could be that there is no recognition of the existence of such a problem. In other words, there is no need to apply these analytical methods since these methods are not beneficial. We do not believe that the engineering community supports this reason. It is not a matter of demonstrating factual data that show how many times the theory was helpful. Without the support of the theory we cannot justifiably evaluate the results of our solutions. If we agree that there is problem, then why are there no publications that would stimulate discussions leading toward a solution of the problem? Here is the second reason. Until now, engineering programs do not present the straightforward universal theoretically sound methodologies for solving the second order linear differential equations that are vital for mechanical and electrical engineering. Without any suggestions of how to solve this problem, it did not make much sense to begin a discussion. In our opinion, this is why we have silence with the regard to this problem. However, it is well known that Laplace Transforms allow solving any linear differential equation of motion. It is justifiable to assume that the main reason why the Laplace Transform methodology is not adopted by learning environments consists in the absence of the majority of tables of Laplace Transform Pairs that are needed for solving differential equations of motion as well as differential equations describing electrical circuits. However, the situation is changed. Current publications comprise the adequate tables that are needed for solving linear differential equations of motion associated with all common mechanical engineering problems. Practicing engineers and students need assistance in acquiring the knowledge of composing differential equations of motion. They need certain training in solving these equations using Laplace Transform methodology. Several recommendations are proposed on how to expedite the implementation in academia and in industry of the methods of applied dynamics in solving common mechanical engineering problems

Perceptions About Ethical Behavior Among Undergraduate Students Attending Religiously-Affiliated Institutions

By controlling for size and existence of a religious affiliation and gender, this study adds to the literature regarding opinions of undergraduate business students about the ethical nature of both academic and business related actions. Analysis of student survey data from two institutions similar in these characteristics continues in this longitudinal study. After the data were separated by gender, ethical perceptions of male students significantly differed for business-related dishonest acts for those male students who had taken two or more courses in religion, but church service attendance did not seem to have any effect. This may suggest that taking more courses (or having more dialogs) in which moral issues beyond academics are discussed may affect male student perceptions of ethical issues outside the institution

Analyzing Big Data with Benford’s Law: A Lesson for the Classroom

Most literature related to Benford’s Law discusses what the law can be used for and how it works but fails to address effective methods and procedures for teaching the law to students. This article examines existing information resources to determine the most effective methods and procedures used to explain this Law to those who have no experience with it. A contribution to knowledge is made by providing step by step instructional approaches for teaching Benford’s Law to students that are tied to existing literature. Benford’s Law is a fascinating lesson for students who have been exposed to statistical and mathematical concepts for as long as they can remember yet know nothing of the law’s existence. This lesson is suitable for any introductory statistics or mathematics course where students are learning about probability. The Law has a practical application in the field of business and can also be taught as part of a fraud examination, data analytics, or auditing course
