Model tests on mechanical behaviors of piles installed in the sandy ground due to impact up-down loadings
Get PDFFailures of piles by impact up-down earthquake motions due to a pressing subject which can not be overlooked. In the investigation after the Kobe Earthquake, the shear failures and the tension failures had revealed. However, the still obscure point is left behind about the mechanical behaviors of such the impact failures. From such a viewpoint, in this study the experiments with the model tests on mechanical behaviors of piles due to impact up-down loadings were conducted. Law Enforcement and International Student Support : Views of Police Officers and University Officials on Government and Academia Cooperation
Get PDFData shows that the largest number of foreigners arrested by Japanese law enforcement are individuals who have entered Japan on study visas. With the increase in foreign students this situation needs to be addressed. Here, the results of a survey conducted with police officers dealing with crime involving foreigners and university personnel engaged in support of foreign students attending their institutions are examined to better understand how cooperation between the government and universities in supporting foreign students can be achieved. The survey found that the police place importance on cooperation from educational institutions in understanding the situation and future of foreign students. University officials also believe that mutual cooperation with police and law enforcement is meaningful to better support foreign students. Achieving this cooperation can facilitate, for those foreign students with a strong desire to learn, a safe living experience in Japan. This in turn can lead to an improvement of their social status. Universities also benefit with the resulting stability of foreign student acquisitions.departmental bulletin pape
“Liberty” and“ Democracy” of Maruyama Masao During the Sino-Japanese and Pacific War（1937-1945）（ 1） : An Analysis of His Reevaluation of“ Modern Society”
Get PDFMaruyama Masao is an eminent scholar of political science in post-war Japan. In particular, he specialized in the history of Japanese political thought. I will consider his understandings of“ liberty” and“ democracy” from 1936 to the first half of 1940’s when he experienced wartime Japan as a youth. These two notions appeared at the beginning of the modern age and became fundamental principles for modern society. Therefore, as a preparatory inquiry, it is important to examine Maruyama’s evaluation of modern society. The aim of this article is to investigate his estimation of modern society during the war.本稿では戦中期における丸山眞男の政治論について，その「自由」と「デモクラシー」に焦点をあてて考察していく。この両概念は近代社会の成立と密接に関連している。「自由」と「デモクラシー」は近代に入ってはじめて，社会形成の基本原理となったのである。したがって，まず今回の論文では，戦中期・丸山の「近代」観に着目し，1936年の論文では「近代」について否定的に評価していた彼が1940年代の諸論文では肯定的な評価に転じていくこと，それには講座派マルクス主義の影響があることを論証していく。
次回は，戦中期・丸山の「自由」観について，「消極的自由」と「内面的自由」の２つに分けて論じていく。次々回では，同時期の丸山の「デモクラシー」観について，それが彼にあっては「ナショナリズム」と密接にリンクしていたことを示しつつ，論を進めていくことにする。以上が，本稿の全体構想である。departmental bulletin pape
Programming Education with Visualization: The Case Study Using Computational Astrophysics

Construction of the GPU Parallel Calculation Environment and Thread Hierarchy Structure
Get PDFWe constructed the personal parallel calculation environment using GPU and CUDA Toolkit. It is very important to recognize the concept of Warp of NVIDIA GPU in CUDA programming. We showed that Warp size(32) had the decisive influence on calculation time. A Study on Locational Distributions of Japanese Multinational Corporations: An Analysis Based on Supplier List and Subsidiary Data
Get PDFHere I compare the characteristics of supplier location for Gap Inc. and FAST RETAILING CO., LTD. by analyzing the Supplier List released recently by the major apparel corporations. I also clarify the background of differences in the supplier location by examining the location features and the location factors of overseas subsidiaries of the Japanese corporation, using overseas subsidiary data and corporate information.
The results show the following. （1） The consigned factories of Gap Inc. exceed those of FAST RETAILING CO., LTD. in terms of the number of factories and countries. Additionally, more than 90% of their suppliers are located in the Asian region and with China having the most. However, there are locational differences in expanding their suppliers in each region and each country. （2） This can be attributed to the differences in the corporations’ location strategies and their location environments.departmental bulletin pape
