The impact of logistics on environmental management: Considerations of driver awareness and road safety
Get PDFHere, I offer a new perspective on efforts taken in Japan that are directed to reducing the environmental load of global logistics. In particular, I draw on my previous research and focus attention on the behavior of drivers working in transport services. I describe how environment management can be improved through eco-driving and road safety, which are directly related to driver awareness and skill. Extending Baru Ibento Durations During the COVID-19 Emergency in Sanda City and Fukushima Ward in Osaka City
Get PDFThe purpose here is to report on the state of baru ibento （bar events） during the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting mitigation efforts by local governments. Here, the cases of “Sanda Bar” in Sanda city（ Hyogo pref.） and “Fukushima Bar” in Osaka city, Fukushima ward are introduced and the two points they have in common are discussed. We found that the baru ibento organizers for both events have implemented strict measures against the spread of COVID-19. A second point is that the event durations were extended in comparison to the scheduling of past baru ibento. These two key factors may have been instrumental in allowing both local organizations to hold the annual fall event in 2020, despite COVID-19 and related mitigation and restrictions.本稿の目的は，コロナ禍におけるバルイベントの実施について報告することである。本稿では，「三田バル」と「福島バル」を事例とした。両者に共通するのは，以下の２点である。１点目は，コロナ対策の徹底をしていることである。２点目は，従前と比較して開催期間を延伸していることである。2020年秋，コロナ禍にも関わらず，両者がバルイベント実施を実現できたのは，これらが要因であると考えられる。departmental bulletin pape
Causes for the Increase in the Number of Vacant Houses: Some Observations Based on a Case Study of Daito City
Get PDFHouse vacancies have increased with the current demographic shift, namely, an aging and declining population. The situation is causing various problems. In this study, the causes for the present increase of vacant houses in Daito City （Osaka Prefecture） are isolated and focus is directed at the population trend of Daito. It is noted that a large number of vacant houses were constructed during the period of high economic growth. After verifying the distribution of vacant houses in each town district based on the vacant house fact-finding questionnaire survey conducted by the Daito municipality, map information such as aerial photographs and land use surveys, and census results, along with construction records were also analyzed. As a result, the relationship between the years when there was an increase in housing construction and the present number of vacant houses is confirmed.departmental bulletin pape
Constructing ‘Scandals’ as Social Problems: A Historical Analysis of Newspaper Articles
Get PDFHere I examine and analyze how ‘scandals’ have been framed using social constructionism by journalism in newspaper articles from 1984 to 2016. This analysis clarifies three historical trends or phases. The first phase is seen in the 1980s, when ‘scandals’ were linked to social events, ranging from high school baseball to national politics. Compared to how at present social problems are made relative to specific industries, scandals in this first phase were reported in terms of “unilateral violence and harm by specific actors.” A second phase emerges in the 1990s, when ‘scandals’ were linked to events in the financial and securities sector and vilified as “inappropriate fund transfers.” Finally, in the 2000s, ‘scandals’ are predominantly cast as problems originating in the food and construction industry, exposing them as attempts at “deception and cover-up.”departmental bulletin pape
