ARTSpeak: Oliver Herring
No full textAs part of ARTSpeak, a collaboration of the Fine Arts and History of Art departments sponsoring artists’ studio visits and lectures, Oliver Herring will discuss his work. Herring is a Brooklyn-based artist working with sculpture, video, and performance. He received a BFA from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art at the University of Oxford, and an MFA from Hunter College. In the 1990s, Herring became known his for hand-knit Mylar and tape sculptures and has since moved into video and performance work involving chance and unpredictable encounters with strangers. His work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, and the Whitney Museum of Art in New York City, as well as the Kyoto Art Center in Japan among many other venues around the world. ARTSpeak: Abigail DeVille
No full textArtist and FIT alumna Abigail DeVille, speaks on her work at ARTSpeak 2014-2015, presented by the departments of Fine Arts and History of Art, includes a series of events on the theme of Outside Traditions.Abigail DeVille received her MFA from Yale University in 2011 and her BFA from FIT in 2007. She has exhibited a growing constellation of site-specific installations in the United States and Europe. Her most recent exhibitions include Material Histories at the Studio Museum in Harlem (2014); Outside the Lines at the Contemporary Art Museum Houston (2014); Invisible Men: Beyond the Veil, Galerie Michel Rein, Paris (2013); and the Future Generation Art Prize at the 55th Venice Biennale (2013). Her work has been written about in New York Magazine, The New York Times, and Artforum.com. Ms. DeVille is a 2012 Joan Mitchell Foundation grant recipient and is a 2014-15 fellow at The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.The event has been made possible in part through funding by the FIT Student-Faculty Corporation, the School of Art and Design, and the School of Liberal Arts.Introduction by Julia Jacquette
