    Abigail DeVille visits Professor Daniel Levinson Wilk's class, New York City and the Invention of America.Maintaining a long-standing interest in marginalized people and places, Abigail DeVille, Fine Arts ’09, creates site-specific immersive installations designed to bring attention to these forgotten stories, such as with the sculpture she built on the site of a former African American burial ground in Harlem, and a new sculpture in Madison Square Park.DeVille often works with objects and materials sourced from the area surrounding the exhibition site, and her theatrical aesthetic embodies the phrase, “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.” Though collected objects are essential to her installations, DeVille’s priority is the stories her installations can tell. DeVille’s family roots in New York go back at least two generations; her interest in New York City, and her work about it, is both personal and political

    Albert Kresch was a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) from 1951 to 1986, one of the longest professorial tenures in FIT's history. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the Great Depression forced his family to move to New York when he was around 8 or 9 so his father could find better work opportunities. He became interested in the fine arts while attending Seward Park High School, and studied for a short time with Hans Hoffman before being drafted into the Air Corps in WW2. He was hired to teach art classes at FIT by Frank Shapiro in 1951, and taught until his retirement in 1986.In this interview, Mr. Kresch recalls his 95 years of life, including his childhood in Brooklyn, what inspired him to get interested in art, his student relationship with the artist Hans Hofmann, his time in the air corps during WW2, and his time at FIT, Parsons, and Pratt working as an art professor
