Level of Output on the Implementation of Lesson Study

Lesson study was introduced in Malaysia in 2008 and adopted as part of professional learning communities in 2011. However, sustaining its classroom implementation especially in supporting students with Additional Mathematics remains a challenge. This study evaluates the output level of lesson study for Additional Mathematics based on the perceptions of 247 purposively selected teachers. Descriptive analysis revealed a high output level, with a mean score of 3.75. The findings suggest that lesson study contributes positively to enhancing teachers’ professional practices and skills, ultimately supporting efforts to improve student learning outcomes in the subject

From Craft to Classroom: A narrative inquiry into the cultural identity and educational roles of intangible cultural heritage inheritors

    No full text
This study explores how Chinese intangible cultural heritage (ICH) inheritors transform from traditional artisans to cultural educators. Through structured narrative analysis of six inheritors across Shu embroidery, sugar painting, and New Year paintings, it examines identity formation, pedagogical strategies, and adaptive transmission. Findings reveal a shift from skill-based preservation to symbolic, participatory, and media-integrated teaching. Importantly, ICH inheritors emerge as active agents and curriculum co-designers, bridging tradition with contemporary educational needs. Their roles are essential in sustaining cultural knowledge and shaping dynamic, youth-oriented heritage education

Integrating Cultural Diversity in Art Education: The development of Mc-TCIM through expert validation

This study develops the Multicultural Traditional Craft Interactive Module (Mc-TCIM) as an alternative pedagogical tool to foster culturally responsive teaching in secondary Visual Arts Education. Using the Fuzzy Delphi Technique, expert consensus was obtained on suitable elements, strategies, and content for the module. The findings highlight the inclusion of Malaysian traditional crafts from Sabah, Sarawak, and the Orang Asli, alongside interactive multimedia, to enhance engagement and cater to diverse learning styles. Mc-TCIM provides educators with a framework to integrate multicultural values, promoting cultural sensitivity, collaboration, and appreciation of Malaysia’s heritage

Development and Validation of the Commuting Safety Management Coordinator Module

The lack of commuting safety management at workplaces is a contributing factor to the increase in commuting accidents in Malaysia. Thus, this study aimed to develop and validate a Commuting Safety Management Coordinator module using the Design and Development Research (DDR) approach integrated with the Sidek Module Development Model (SMDM). The module, consisting of 11 units, was reviewed by 11 experts through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and achieved a content validity level of 87%, indicating strong content validity. The validated module supports organizations in enhancing commuting safety practices and warrants further research on module reliability and effectiveness

Instructional use of Scientific Calculators in Algebra Learning

This study looks at how scientific calculators are used to teach mathematics to secondary school students in Selangor. A mixed-method design comprising questionnaires (n = 173) and interviews was used to examine students' usage, perceptions, and involvement. The findings demonstrated that purposeful calculator integration enhances motivation, self-assurance, and problem-solving skills while reducing algebra anxiety. Students demonstrated greater engagement and a deeper conceptual comprehension when calculators were used as teaching instruments rather than as computing aids. The study's conclusions suggest that by successfully integrating calculators into the classroom, teachers can influence students' attitudes towards mathematics and promote deeper, more enjoyable learning experiences

Exploring the Realities of Self-Management Among Adolescents with Thalassaemia and Their Caregivers in Malaysia: A qualitative study

Adolescents with thalassaemia face unique self-management challenges amid emotional and social changes. This research explored how Malaysian adolescents and their caregivers navigate self-management through in-depth interviews with 30 participants, analyzed thematically using Atlas. ti software. Three main themes emerged: knowledge and beliefs, self-regulation and adaptation, and communication and interaction. Findings highlight adolescents' awareness of their condition, motivation for health management, coping strategies, and the importance of open communication and social support. The study emphasizes the need for practical self-management tools and interventions to enhance adolescents' quality of life

Food Safety Compliance in Islamic Schools: Knowledge, attitudes and practices of food handlers

The incidence of food poisoning in school canteens is increasing and poorly understood. It involves young and vulnerable children. School food handlers must understand food safety knowledge, attitudes, and practices to prevent cross-contamination during food preparation effectively. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to food safety compliance among food handlers in Islamic schools. A cross-sectional study involving 33 food handlers from 15 schools under the Islamic Education District Office in Tangkak, Johor, was conducted using a structured questionnaire. The findings demonstrate that the school food handlers exhibited sufficient knowledge (85.15%), attitudes (84.55%), and practices (84.85%)

A Review of Cytokine Detection Methods in β-Thalassemia Major Patients

β-thalassemia major (β-TM) is defined by persistent inflammation and immune dysfunction, with cytokine profiling being crucial for diagnosis and research. This review evaluates methodologies used in cytokine quantification among β-TM patients. A targeted literature search revealed prominent methods such as ELISA, Luminex, flow cytometry, and qRT-PCR. Although ELISA remains the most common method, methodological discrepancies and limited cytokine panels hinder data comparability. Multiplex technologies offer improved efficiency but remain underused. Enhanced standardization and broader cytokine coverage are essential to strengthen biomarker discovery and clinical application in β-TM research. Findings suggest that researchers require unified, multiplex-capable platforms in future investigations

Development, Validation and Effectiveness of Postnatal Care Module for Confinement Ladies: A concept paper

Postnatal care services provided by confinement ladies are available in many countries including Malaysia. With many modern treatments existing for postnatal mothers, midwives’ roles are complemented by confinement ladies. In addition to modern care for postnatal mothers, the confinement lady must know and understand the choice and type of self-care after childbirth.  This knowledge is to increase the confinement ladies’ skills and self-efficacy to deliver appropriate postnatal care.  This concept paper intends to provide a conceptual framework for evaluating the effectiveness of the Postnatal Care Module (PCM) in enhancing knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy among confinement ladies in delivering high-quality care

Key Elements enhancing Motivation in People with Schizophrenia

This study explores key motivational elements that enhance participation in rehabilitation activities among individuals with schizophrenia in institutional settings. Using a meta-inference approach, data from a scoping review and interviews with patients, occupational therapists, and healthcare providers were synthesised. Eight core elements were identified: autonomy and choice, structure, relatedness, meaningful activity, variety, reinforcement, relevance, and feedback. These findings support the design of patient-centred interventions grounded in CBT, SDT, and SET. While limited to institutional settings, the study offers practical insights for improving engagement, and recovery outcomes and guiding future mental health programs and policy development
