THE ROLE OF DIMENSIONS OF JOB ENGAGEMENT IN ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE
Job engagement is about the degree of connection employees have with their work. Engagement theories suggest that employees experience engagement cognitively, emotionally, and physically. If and the extent to which this is the case, specifically within South African municipalities, remains largely indeterminate.
This study therefore investigates the relationship between dimensions of job engagement and perceived organizational performance in South African municipalities. A quantitative research approach was followed, and data was collected through an online survey administered to a non-probability sample of municipal employees.
The study reveals that of the three dimensions of job engagement, emotional and physical engagement demonstrated statistically significant relationships with perceived organizational performance although physical engagement turned out as a stronger predictor. Surprisingly, the relationship between cognitive engagement and perceived organizational performance was not statistically significant.
Consequently, it is imperative for jobs in municipalities to be better designed with a clear intention to foster job engagement.
PSYCHOPATHOLOGICAL SYMPTOMS IN THE MENTAL HEALTH OF PRISONERS (AZERBAIJAN CASE)
The main object of this study is to assess the prevalence of mental illness (diagnosis) and symptoms of psychopathology, evaluate the correlation between variables. (Independent variables: age, imprisonment years, marital status. Dependent variables: psychopathological symptoms). The survey study was conducted among inmates at correctional facilities in Azerbaijan. Participants were conducted from January 2023-March 2023. A total of participants was 45 male prisoners. Prisoners reported lifetime or current diagnosis of depression, anxiety, guilt feelings, tension, mental retardation and other disorder, as well as current mental health symptoms. Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale-BPRS was used to measure the symptoms, and SPSS program for analyzing the statistics.
Of the 50 inmates invited to participate, 45 (90%) of them were consistent with research (mean [SD] age, 41,1 [5.3] years; 45 [100%] male; imprisonment years 9,51 [2.9]; 26 [57,8%] of them have previous imprisonment experience, 19 [42,2%] of them don’t have any punishment before). A statistically significant positive correlation was examined between the increasing age factor of the prisoner and the symptoms of somatic anxiety, thought disorders, tension, mannerism and posturing, slowness of movements, disruption of social cooperation, unusual content of thoughts, blunting of affect (r= 0.633* *,*p<0.05, **p<0.01); a positive significance statistical correlation was examined between the increasing sentence duration and the mental health problems (r= 0.459**,*p<0.05, **p<0.01); Mental health problems of persons who had previous prison experience were higher than persons convicted for the first time, respectively: 31.7±10.1 and 28.53±9.4 (F=2.64; p=0.111; t=-1,08; df=43); Lack of family support was followed by negative consequences in their mental health. Thus, the total index of mental disorders in unmarried persons is 25.4±9.8; 27.06±6.4 in married people; 40±5.6 was obtained in divorced and isolated individuals. Moreover, educational factor of the prisoners shows its effect in maintaining their emotional stability and knowledge about mental health problems
THE IMPACT OF OWNERSHIP TYPE ON THE QUALITY OF STUDY PROGRAMS IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION SECTOR OF KOSOVO: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
The sector of higher education in Kosovo has witnessed significant during the past two decades, with the establishment of private and public institutions leading to increased participation. However, concerns about the quality and the relevance of the study programs offered by these institutions have emerged. To address these concerns, a research study was conducted to evaluate the impact of ownership type on program quality. Based on the analysis of accreditation data, the study finds no significant differences in quality between private and public institutions. Nonetheless, further research is recommended to examine specific accreditation fields and other factors, including student quality, graduation rates, employment rates, student satisfaction, and academic staff quality, to understand the differences in program quality of private and public higher education institutions in Kosovo
RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE PLANNING PROCESS OF CITIES FOR THE RATIONAL USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBAL CLIMATE CRISIS, URBANISATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS
In addition to the environmental problems caused by urbanisation, drought, irregularity in precipitation regime, floods, landslides, storms and fires are experienced in the world due to global warming and climate change. This situation is also valid for our country. These events negatively affect the lives of all living things. Necessary arrangements are being made by the relevant authorities for the solution of the problems caused by urbanisation and global climate crisis, and central and local administrations assume duties in accordance with the updated legislation. This process brings new approaches and administrative structures to the agenda for the planning of settlements, especially cities, in order to utilise natural resources effectively and efficiently. In the urban planning process, it is thought that there is a need for a comprehensive, visionary approach with physical, social, economic and cultural content regarding the use of natural resources in the context of urbanisation and environmental problems.
In this article, the processes of re-planning urban areas are examined by reviewing the literature on global warming, climate change and environmental problems caused by urbanisation. In order to solve these problems, it is thought that a new administrative structure is needed in order to formulate urbanisation policies and in the process of planning and construction of cities. With this study, it is aimed to evaluate the issue within the framework of an approach based on the protection of water, air and soil components, which are the basic input of planning in the urbanisation process and are of vital importance, and to propose solutions for urbanisation and environmental problems
BİBLİOMETRİC ANALYSİS OF ENTREPRENEURİAL PERSONALİTY WİTH SCİENCE MAPPİNG TECHNİQUE
It is seen that the importance of entrepreneurship at regional and global levels is increasing day by day. The roles of entrepreneurs in this increase are pretty remarkable. Many studies have been conducted to understand entrepreneurs' roles better and reveal the factors that push individuals toward entrepreneurship in a better way. Some of these researches are shaped around the concept of entrepreneurial personality. It is seen that this concept, which includes both entrepreneurship and personality, is examined in a multidisciplinary manner. A bibliometric analysis was conducted to examine how studies on entrepreneurial personality have been handled from past to present and other characteristics. The Web of Science database encountered 169 studies on entrepreneurial personality between 1977 and 2023. VOSviewer program was used to visualize these studies with scientific mapping techniques. In addition, the MaxQDA program was used for additional analysis.
As a result, it is seen that studies on entrepreneurial personality are shaped around different countries and different author groups. In addition, it has been concluded that academic interest in entrepreneurial personality has increased, and this increase will continue. It is thought that studies on entrepreneurial personality are effective in explaining a structure that expands from the individual to society and economy
CHANGING HABITS: THE EFFECT OF CULTURAL CONSUMPTION ON RESTAURANT PREFERENCES
The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of cultural omnivorousness levels on restaurant preferences. Qualitative research approach was adopted in this study. At the same time, ethnographic interview method was used in order to examine the cultural consumption patterns of individuals in the study. As a result of the research, the findings are presented in two categories: cultural participation and the relationship between cultural participation and restaurant preferences. The result of the research shows that some people interviewed have a different and hierarchical judgment of taste in restaurant preferences. Cultural consumption, as a reflection of cultural omnivorousness, serves to make sense of people's tastes/likes. However, there has not been found such an examination of restaurant choice and its use in cultural omnivorousness studies. This article fills the identified gap, adding to the discussion about restaurant choice and cultural consumption
FAMILY SUPPORTIVE SUPERVISOR BEHAVIOR AND THRIVING AT WORK: THE MEDIATING ROLE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING
The study investigates the impact of encouraging supervisor behavior on enjoying success at work. Further, it examines the mediating role of psychological well-being on the relationship between family support supervisor behaviour and thriving among Nurses in a tertiary health institution in Nigeria. One hundred and fifty nurses participated in the study. The hypothesized model was used to test descriptive and structural equation modelling. Findings failed to support hypothesis one as no direct relationship exists between family support supervisor behaviour and thriving at work. The results supported hypotheses two and three, indicating a positive and significant relationship between family supportive supervisor behaviour, thriving and psychological well-being. Furthermore, psychological well-being successfully mediates the relationship between family support supervisor behaviour and thriving at work; thus, hypothesis four was supported. Family-support supervisor behaviour policies and programmes may not be sufficient to promote thriving at work as other intervening factors could enhance its effectiveness
A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE USE OF PROGRESSIVE FORMS IN THE ALBANIAN - ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE NOVEL ‘THE DOLL’ BY ISMAIL KADARE
Translation is a process that incorporates two languages and two cultures, it is considered as an act of conveying a message from one society to another. Languages contain different expressions, literary aspects for which translation enables them to be delivered to other cultures. The focus of this research is on the progressive or continuous tenses of Albanian and English language. The progressive tenses of both languages show an ongoing action at an unspecific time in the present, past or in the future. To conduct this research and to analyze and contrast the progressive tenses, we have used the novel “Kukulla” – “The Doll” by Ismail Kadare. The novel has an intriguing, specific topic which is not commonly used in literary texts. Besides its topic, the cultural aspects that Ismail Kadare has masterly incorporated in the novel make it a distinct and important novel to analyze.
The aim of this research is to clarify the aspect of progressive tenses of Albanian language and English language. It aims to identify and analyze whether the tense shift from Albanian language to English language changes the meaning and the form of the source text
DOES GRADUATING FROM MADRASA MAKE IT EASIER TO COPE WITH LIFE’S CHALLENGES? AN EXPLORATORY STUDY WITH MADRASA GRADUATES IN KOSOVO
Alauddin Madrasa has played an important role in Albanian society since its foundation until today. Madrasa graduates have a respectable place in society and as such have always been close to the people in the most difficult days. However, despite the contribution that madrasa graduates make to society, no one has been interested in their welfare. In other words: How do they cope with the challenges of life?
The aim of this paper is to study the religious coping of madrasa graduates. To achieve this goal, a survey was conducted with 300 madrasa graduates. A construct measuring religious coping was adopted from the literature. Data were analysed using SPSS ver. 27. All mean scores obtained as a result of the research show that the level of religious coping of madrasah graduates is high. This indicates that madrasa graduates generally are coping quite well. The madrasa has prepared them well for the life challenges that graduates face. In light of these findings, the paper discusses the impact of studying in a madrasa and the lessons it teaches its graduates
DÖVİZ KURU OYNAKLIĞI İLE HİSSE ENDEKSİ GETİRİLERİ ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ: TÜRKİYE ÖRNEĞİ
Exchange rate fluctuations do not affect only the companies and individuals that engage in foreign currency-based transactions. As economic exposure features, even entities with no foreign currency assets and obligations are affected from the movements in exchange rates. Exchange rates, in fact, are closely related with several macroeconomic variables including stock prices and returns. Investigations into the relationship between exchange rate fluctuations and stock returns are widely observed among financial participants and academic circles. This study aims at exploring the link between exchange rate volatility and stock returns by investigating the US Dollar/Turkish Lira (USD/TRY) exchange rate volatility and Borsa Istanbul 100 Index (BIST-100) returns. In the study, 406 days of data for the period 11.03.2020-28.10.2021 were included in the analysis. Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) unit root test was used to analyze the stationarity of the variables.
As a result of the test, it is seen that the series are stationary at the I(0) level. After performing the stationarity test, ARMA (2,2) from linear stationary stochastic models and EGARCH (2,2) from general autoregressive conditional variable variance models were estimated to model exchange rate volatility. Then, Granger causality test was used to see if there is a relationship between exchange rate volatility and stock returns. The findings put forward the existence of bidirectional causality relationship between the variables. As the time span of the data period overlaps with the pandemic period, it appears that causality relationship obtained by the study is like the ones that held in the studies in the pre-pandemic period. Bu çalışma, ABD Doları/Türk Lirası (USD/TRY) döviz kuru oynaklığı ve Borsa İstanbul 100 Endeksi (BIST-100) getirilerini inceleyerek döviz kuru oynaklığı ile hisse senedi getirileri arasındaki bağlantıyı keşfetmeyi amaçlamaktadır. 11.03.2020-28.10.2021 dönemine ait 406 günlük veri üzerinden oluşturulan çalışmada Granger nedensellik testi uygulandı. Bulgular, değişkenler arasında çift yönlü nedensellik ilişkisinin varlığını ortaya koymaktadır. Veri periyodunun zaman aralığı pandemi dönemi ile örtüştüğünden, çalışmanın elde ettiği nedensellik ilişkisinin pandemi öncesi dönemdeki çalışmalarda yapılanlara benzer olduğu görülmektedir
