    Southwark Cathedral

    Get PDF
Southwark Cathedral is an architectural, historical, and literary monument. Its original site dates back to a convent from as early as 660 AD. Initially established as St. Mary Overie by Norman knights in 1106, the cathedral has undergone several reconstructions after suffering fires in the 12th and 14th centuries. Reflecting a blend of Norman and Gothic architectural styles, remnants of its medieval architectural past are still visible in parts of the cathedral today. With a rich background as a place of hospitality and learning, the cathedral is still open to the community for regular services, tours, and education as part of the Anglican Church. Revisiting Domestic and International Study Abroad Program Learning Outcomes: A Qualitative Pilot Study

    Get PDF
Christian institutions missionally commit to educate students to be both professionally competent and capable of engaging across difference. This quantitative pilot study analyzes survey responses from graduates of two intentionally-designed Christian off-campus study programs—one located in the United States and one located abroad. A multivariate analysis of covariance reveals graduates of both programs scored comparably on professional competency and engaging difference scales. This challenges narrow approaches to researching, designing, and promoting international study abroad programs as superior arenas for developing global competency and domestic programs as primarily focused on professional development. Consequently, Christian educators are invited reconsider how various off-campus programs might meaningfully contribute to critical educational outcomes. Moreover, findings prompt consideration of the ways thoughtfully-designed domestic programs might make the transformational learning of traditional study abroad programs accessible to a wider range of students

The Two Witnesses of Revelation 11

    Get PDF
The identity of the two witnesses in Revelation 11 is ambiguous. Popular arguments for their identities include Elijah and Moses, Peter and Paul, a symbolic interpretation, and an assortment of minority views. While each perspective has pros and cons, I find the symbolic interpretation most persuasive based on the text. Regardless of the identity of the two witnesses, their significance remains. The power of the Lord is more than fire, blood, and plagues; it is the power of life over death. The way in which God works through the Church – how his breath is felt through us – should draw the world to a fear of the Lord

    Kantian Reason & Epistemic Humility

    Get PDF
Immanuel Kant continues to be one of the most influential thinkers in the history of philosophy. His thought shapes much of contemporary culture and has dramatically influenced Christian philosophy and theology. While some of this influence is beneficial, there are components of Kantian thought – especially as it pertains to the capabilities of human reason to arrive at true knowledge of God – that are decidedly problematic. In this paper, two different readings on Kant’s work on this subject are presented, followed by a brief overview of key insights and shortcomings. The final section charts a positive way forward for the Christian thinker, incorporating the insights of Kantian thought, while avoiding its pitfalls
