Formerly Abducted Youths in Northern Uganda: History, Impact, Intervention, and Reintegration

In 1988, a rebel group called the Lord\u27s Resistance Army (LRA) formed in Northern Uganda. A civil war broke out between the LRA and the government, lasting more than two decades and affecting almost the entire population of Northern Uganda. Children were some of the most impacted by the conflict, as the LRA’s primary strategy was abducting children and forcibly recruiting them as sexual slaves (brides), manual laborers, and soldiers.First, this paper establishes the historical and political backdrop of the conflict, providing context for the psychological impacts that abduction into war had on children, Acholi culture, and the communities involved. As Northern Uganda heals and rebuilds from the outbreak of the Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel group that terrorized the region, psychologists and researchers have flocked to study the implications of reintegrating formerly abducted youths into their previous communities, and how trauma impacts post-conflict healing. Many organizations have stepped into this healing journey, implementing helpful strategies for overcoming trauma and promoting restoration in the region of Northern Uganda. Amidst this difficult task is the guiding and healing hand of the Father, making faith integration of utmost importance

Harvest Leadership: A Philosophy for Empowering Indigenous Leaders For Ministry Among Unreached People Groups

One-third of the world\u27s population lacks meaningful access to the gospel, underscoring a critical need for contextualized ministry and leadership development. This paper outlines a philosophy of ministry for Harvest Leadership, a ministry dedicated to empowering indigenous leaders for ministry among unreached people groups. Following William Frankena\u27s philosophy of education as its framework, this paper argues that effective Christian education for these leaders must be contextually appropriate, emphasizing principles such as Oral Learning, Social Learning Theory, and Experiential Learning. By illustrating through the case of Pikugi, an Ache woman in Paraguay, the paper demonstrates how intentional ministry practices, informed by these theories and empowered by the Holy Spirit, foster leadership development in areas of commitment, competency, connection, and cultural awareness, leading to indigenous leaders being well equipped to join in fulfilling the great commission and making God known

From Inherited Belief to Owned Faith: Mentoring Emerging Adults Through Fowler’s Faith Stages

This paper explores how James Fowler’s theory of faith development and Richard Dunn’s model of mentoring through pacing can be used together to support the spiritual growth of emerging adults. Focusing on the transition from Stage 3 (Synthetic-Conventional Faith) to Stage 4 (Individuative-Reflective Faith), the paper highlights the challenges young adults face as they move from inherited to owned belief. Practical strategies are offered for ministry leaders and mentors who want to walk with emerging adults through this process of spiritual formation with empathy, patience, and intentional guidance

Liturgical Aesthetics: A Case for Beauty in the Church

    No full text
This paper is intended to challenge the contemporary church in America to consider the ways it can reflect beauty in liturgical practices and the importance of beauty in an ecclesial setting. It dispels notions such as aesthetic autonomy and offers a method of fittingness for churches and ecclesial settings to inform their own liturgical practices
