Age Elasticity in the NBA Examining the Effect of Age on Basketball Skill Development

    No full text
Aging is inevitable, and in the context of sport, some athletes age more gracefully than others. The aim of this project was to construct a framework for assessing the effect of aging (i.e., becoming less agile, fluid, resilient, etc.) on basketball skill development, with the motivation to gain a stronger understanding of which skills (e.g., 3-point shooting) are most adaptable or elastic

The Ethics of Pitch Correction: How Technology is Changing Musical Expression

    Get PDF
The music industry has undoubtedly undergone fundamental changes since the invention of pitch correction technology, and audiences\u27 many long-established views of authenticity are now being questioned. In this study, I quantitatively assess pitch correction technology\u27s ethical and cultural implications for artist performance, public perception, industry popularity standards, and authenticity using open-source data from Spotify and Chart Masters

Optimizing MLB Roster Selection with Moneyball AI Scouting Agents: Using High Fidelity Synthetic Data To Optimize Team Performance

    Get PDF
This project utilizes artificial intelligence Agents to generate high-fidelity synthetic data for Major League Baseball hitters and their statistics over a single 162 game season. The AI evaluates each player based on a five-tool scale, comparing their abilities to one another. Finally, optimization techniques are applied to select an optimal set of thirteen hitters (half of a full MLB roster of twenty-six players), maximizing overall performance while adhering to a specified salary cap. The operating hypothesis is that artificial intelligence can effectively generate high-fidelity synthetic data for baseball hitters and evaluate player performance based on a five-tool scale, given a large influx of data. By applying optimization techniques, it is possible to construct a competitive baseball team that maximizes overall performance while staying within a given salary cap, mirroring real-world decision-making in sports management

AI-Powered Appointment Prioritization System for Resource-Poor Settings

    Get PDF
This project presents an AI-driven multi-agent system for managing and prioritizing patient appointments in a physician\u27s chamber in a resource-poor setting. By employing a multi-agent architecture and a vector database, the system dynamically adapts to real-time events like patient check-ins, and supports the manual reordering of appointments. Built using Python, LangChain, and the ChromaDB vector database, the system can be accessed via a simple UI on Streamlit. The objective is to enhance patient flow, reduce wait times, and provide an adaptive and efficient appointment system in a Bangladeshi clinical setting

    Amongst the Hounds

    No full text
Inspired by Celtic folktales and mythology, Amongst the Hounds is a fantasy adventure novel set in an alternate version of early 20th-century Ireland. After a long war against the imposing Empire that has been draining the nation’s limited resources, the island country of Íre is briefly at peace. When Ailbhe Mac Cárthaigh arrives in the nation’s capital, she discovers her brother Breandán, a physics prodigy, has gone missing. Having grown up with tales about the dangers of arrachtacha, massive wolf-like beasts that stalk the countryside, Ailbhe believes Breandán is the most recent victim. With the help of her brother’s friend from university, Colin, and an apprentice arrachtach hunter, Cecily, Ailbhe sets off to find him. While fighting monsters and family curses, the newfound friends find they may be close to uncovering long-buried secrets that could endanger both warring states. Challenging the anti-modernist and imperialist themes that have dominated the fantasy genre since J.R.R. Tolkien’s lecture “On Fairy-Stories,” Amongst the Hounds is a story about the immortality of legends and the effect they have on national and individual identities

Artificial Intelligence for the SaaS Industry: How LLMs and AI tools can be utilized to assess Key Performance Indicators and Internal Alignment standards for publicly traded SaaS companies

    Get PDF
This artificial intelligence project presents a comprehensive analysis of four distinct Software as a Service (SaaS) companies—Blend Labs, Riskified, VTEX, and CS Disco—evaluating their internal alignment through strategic focus and execution, customer relationship management, operational efficiency, market adaptability, and leadership stability. By examining key performance indicators (KPIs) and strategic initiatives, this project aims to generate new, universal KPIs that serve all of the companies being analyzed. The project also employs a grading rubric designed for assessing the internal alignment of SaaS companies, crucial for their long-term success in the highly competitive and rapidly evolving tech sector. This study is a proof of concept on how artificial intelligence can help equity research in this fast-changing industry

Regeneration of Lumbriculus variegatus is dependent upon post-amputation production of reactive oxygen species

    No full text
Animals vary in their ability to replace body parts lost to injury, a phenomenon known as regeneration. Uncovering conserved signaling steps required for regeneration may aid regenerative medicine. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are necessary for proper regeneration in species across a wide range of taxa, but it is unknown whether ROS are essential for annelid regeneration. Since annelids are a widely used and excellent model for regeneration, we sought to determine whether ROS play a role in the regeneration of the highly regenerative annelid, Lumbriculus variegatus. Our findings reveal a temporal and spatial production of ROS within the first 24 hours after amputation; the transient production of ROS is observed immediately after amputation, with the accumulation of ROS at the wound site. Inhibition of this ROS burst led to a delay in regeneration, an impairment that was partially rescued with exogenous ROS. Our results suggest that similar to other animals, annelid regeneration depends upon ROS signaling, implying a phylogenetically ancient requirement for ROS in regeneration
