Increased risk of S. aureus carriage based on duration of student athlete career at CSP
Swabs were taken at random and were processed to determine if the swab carried S. aureus. The goal of this poster was to compare the carriage of S. aureus in student athletes and non student athletes over the time spent at CSP to see if there was a notable comparison. The poster also finds which toxins were most commonly matched to the student athletes that had full genomic sequencing done on the swabs taken from them
The Effect of Family Cohesion on Romantic Relationships
Children are typically in the presence of their family of origin for a length of time. From this time spent with their family of origin, children are shaped into the people they are. Arguably, one of the main areas in which family of origin has an impact on a child is within their romantic relationships. The researchers chose to investigate how a couple with partners on the opposite end of the cohesion and adaptability scale manage communication within their relationship. Specifically, the researchers explored how these romantic partners manage self-disclosure and conflict management styles in their relationships, with their families’ behaviors in mind. The participants of this study were romantic couples of adult age who had been dating for at least six months prior to the study. This study thoroughly addressed the effects of bringing two different sets of familial communication behaviors together in one romantic relationship
Music as an Ergogenic Aid During Resistance Training in an Adult Population: A Pilot Study
Music has been found to produce feelings and emotions of power, reduce physical pain, and manage mood and affect. Ergogenic aids are regularly used in the resistance training (RT) setting to help improve performance. While the ergogenic effects of music are widely documented in aerobic exercise, research is lacking in the RT setting. The aim of this study was to examine the possible ergogenic benefits of music during RT workouts. Twelve individuals (mean age in years 49.8 ± 17.5 years) participated in the present online study, with nine female participants (mean age in years 48.2 ± 17.7) and three male participants (mean age in years 54.3 ± 22.0). All participants performed RT training exercises while listening to three music conditions: general music (GM) playlist, self-selected (SS) music playlist, and empowering music (EM) playlist. Participants then completed online surveys where they rated different aspects of their workouts such as motivation, enjoyment, and focus on a scale of 1 to 4 (1 = terrible, 2 = bad, 3 = good, 4 = great). The playlists with the highest mean ratings included the SS playlist for quality of workout (3.50 ± 0.52), the GM playlist for enjoyment and motivation (3.58 ± 0.52 and 3.50 ± 0.52, respectively), and the GM playlist (3.42 ± 0.52) and SS playlist (3.42 ± 0.6) for focus. In conclusion, music may have functioned as an ergogenic aid in RT workouts by increasing the quality of the workout, improving motivation, focus, and enjoyment, reducing the rate of perceived exertion, and creating a dissociation effect during the exercises. The practical applications of this study can be applied to a variety of RT exercisers ranging from the general population all the way to elite sports athletes
Body Image: Social Media’s Influence after the COVID-19 Pandemic in Young Male Adults | A Case Study
This case study will explore the impact of social media on body image through the COVID-19 pandemic period. The qualitative approach investigates a social media user’s perception of standards established by present times and their narrative of how they internalize or deny its influence on body image. Twelve participants will be recruited from a local commercialized gym in Orange County, Southern California. Individual interviews will be gathered using open-ended questions pertaining to their body image while using social media. Feedback from participants will provide insight to the methods of communications that appeal or deter internalization of health practices on digital platforms. Data will be analyzed using qualitative techniques for categorizing themes and subthemes that highlight transition points or reinforcement concepts of body image. Healthcare practitioners can incorporate the findings to bridge the gap with patients and clients. Through the collection of narratives, theoretical frameworks can be established for implementing coping strategies to remedy body image and improving communication of scientific literature to tangible applications

Conclusion Vibration stimulation to neural dense area such as the sacral region can improve shoulder internal rotation range of motion.

Capacity and Maximal Inspiratory Pressure in Healthy Adults
Introduction Diaphragmatic fatigue during maximal exercise causes decreased blood flow to exercising limbs. Inspiratory muscle strength training (IMST) may decrease diaphragm fatigue. Current studies use 50% of maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) for IMST, but optimal dosing at higher intensities has not been well explored.
Objective Investigate the impact of high intensity IMST on aerobic capacity and maximal inspiratory pressure in healthy adults.
Methods This study was IRB approved by the university. All participants provided informed consent, and demographic information was collected.
Results VO2 max did not change significantly in either intervention group after intervention period (p=0.143). Groups demonstrated significant improvement in MIP (p=0.011), but there was no significant difference between groups (p\u3c0.638).
Conclusion VO2 max did not significantly change in the control or intervention groups. Post-intervention MIP measurements were significantly improved in both groups, but there was no significant difference between either group. High intensity IMST may not improve aerobic capacity in young, healthy adults after an 8-week intervention period.
Clinical Relevance Maintaining diaphragmatic strength with IMST may help minimize respiratory fatigue and be useful for healthy adults with injuries limiting their mobility. Further research is needed to evaluate optimal IMST intensity for maximal benefit as 80% may be too intense
Evaluating the impact of salary discrepancies on quality of life in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) players
There is no Major League Baseball (MLB) team that is contracted without a Minor League Baseball (MiLB) team. Unfortunately for MiLB players, their lives have not been as glamorous as their major league counterparts. Due to an Antitrust Exemption from 1922, the MLB has been allowed by Congress to have complete control over a MiLB players’ salary and contract length. These players ended up receiving poverty level wages and no bargaining power to fight for change. A century and many court proceedings later, a union is forming for MiLB players and change is on the horizon. However, there is still a larger need for research in the quality of life of these MiLB players. Using a survey, this study intends to do just that and hopes to provide data for the union to use in their fight to improve the quality of life for MiLB players
Data to Support Insurer Validation of Running-Specific Prosthesis (RSP) for Trans-Tibial Amputees (TTA)
This study is focused on presenting data that supports the benefits of running-specific prosthesis (RSP) devices, with the goal of meriting medical necessity to fight denial claims. This research proposal compiles data and supportive evidence that RSP provides associated functional and physical benefits. Sepp et. al compared RSP and daily-use prosthetic (DUP) devices of 26 subjects using an instrumented treadmill at 5 randomized, steady-state speeds (3.0 m/s, 3.5 m/s, 4.0 m/s, and 5.0 m/s) while ground reaction forces were being collected and markers were placed to collect kinematic data. Further supportive data was presented by Highsmith et al in a double-blind study where 14 TTA used three different lower extremity feet (two DUP and one RSP) and completed an 18-phase obstacle course while time and performance were assessed. Together the comprised data in this study can be used to validate the benefits of RSP devices versus DUP and further broadcast and place pressure on the issue of denial claims regarding RSP devices for TTA
