Treatment Modalities Recommended for Sexual Offenders With Intellectual Disabilities
The goal of this article to provide a brief overview of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and how these treatment modalities are being used to treat sexual offenders, specifically sexual offenders with intellectual disabilities (ID). As treatment programs aim to reduce sexual recidivism, they face a unique challenge to find ways to provide effective treatment to sexual offenders with ID. As such, clinicians and treatment programs are finding ways to adapt treatment for this population
Sexual Sadism Disorder: An Introduction for Mental Health Professionals
Sexual sadism disorder is characterized by the experience of sexual pleasure through causing, witnessing, or fantasizing about a non-consenting individual’s physical or emotional pain. A commonly misunderstood disorder, its prevalence varies widely depending on the study. There is a lack of inter-clinician reliability concerning diagnosis. Recent efforts have been made to reconceptualize sadism as a dimensional rather than dichotomous construct, resulting in the development of several validated instruments to assist professionals in valid and reliable diagnosis of sexual sadism disorder. The aim of this article is to provide mental health professionals with foundational knowledge on sadism and to provide recommendations for how they can improve their understanding of this unique population to provide more effective and efficient care
Exploring the Nexus of Perfectionism, Physical Activity, and Smartphone Addiction: A Study Among College Adults
The purpose of this quantitative research study was to determine the relationship between perfectionism, physical activity, and smartphone addiction among college students. College students are at a pivotal point in their development toward adulthood and understanding the impact of perfectionism, physical activity, and smartphone addiction on their overall well-being is important for their future success. A cross-sectional correlational study via a quantitative survey with the valid measures of the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale- Brief (FMPS-B), the International Physical Health Questionnaire- Short Form (IPAQ-S), and the Smartphone Addiction Scale- Short Version (SAS-SV) were used for data collection. Results concluded that a statistical significant relationship between the variables was not evident; however, the practical application highlighted that college adults studying under the kinesiology umbrella can manage the college experience and balance overall well-being. This study contributes to the kinesiology field as studies specific for this population and variables are lacking and shows the value of understanding the impact of the variables on the college experience. It calls for future research to include a larger sample size with diverse educational pathways to better understand the relationship between perfectionism, physical activity, and smartphone addiction among college adults and their overall well-being to aid in success and a positive college experience
Transforming Law Enforcement to Attract Candidates from the Millennial Generation
There is a widespread shortage of law enforcement candidates throughout the nation, resulting in agencies needing to increase their efforts to maintain staffing. The largest group in the workforce, the millennial generation, holds unique set of traits that make recruiting, retention, and leadership challenging for law enforcement administration. With the decrease in law enforcement applicant pools, recruitment and retention success is paramount to maintaining a successful organization in the future. An action plan is needed to practically, and ethically apply the change of approach to a workplace. This paper discusses how these changes may impact peers, the community, and additional entities throughout the criminal justice system while exploring what ethical considerations need to be addressed, and how organizational leaders can ensure ethical expectations and behaviors in others
Opening the Juvenile Recidivism Umbrella Sold By Residential Treatment
Juveniles, especially in a residential treatment facility fall into the classification of vulnerable population. Researchers, review boards, and the facility administrator carry the burden of ensuring ethics are to the highest standard when this population is involved, so stakeholders can make accurate decisions. Cognitive-based models, which is an evidence-based practice, have been around since the 1990’s. This form of practice has gone through a process of implementation into juvenile residential facilities and has helped reduce the recidivism rate for this population. Budget proposals follow a series of steps, checks, and revisions before taking effect. Probation and Parole is an agency that work directly with juvenile delinquents and have the potential to fund residential treatment
