Food Insecurity. A Factor in Criminal Behavior?
This article examines how food insecurity and limited access to nutritionally adequate foods impair cognitive function, emotional regulation, decision-making, and impulse control. Emerging research purports that individuals experiencing food insecurity face increased risks of mental and physical health problems, violent behavior, delinquency, heightened childhood vulnerability, and criminal justice involvement across the lifespan. The article advocates for increased awareness, routine screening, and specialized training for professionals in mental health, social services, and the criminal justice system to address food insecurity, thereby supporting long-term policy and community-level strategies that reduce criminal behavior and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations
Police Wellness
A career in Law Enforcement allows people to build partnerships with community members to work towards a common goal of enhancing public safety through collaboration and trust. It\u27s a rewarding yet often challenging career because officers must make split-second decisions in high-stress situations while working long hours and missing family events. Over time, police officers experience stressors from their jobs and personal lives that become overwhelming and difficult to navigate due to the unforeseen challenges of their chosen career in law enforcement. These challenges make it crucial for officers to find approaches that enable them to overcome these challenges that oftentimes can be prevented or worked through with the necessary resources and guidance from their department. This paper examines the value of implementing and actively revamping wellness programs and initiatives to empower police department personnel to adequately care for themselves as they navigate their careers and lives. A review of research and scholarly articles reveals the need for proactive approaches to overcome poor officer health, habits, and mindset and the impact police culture, leadership, and policy have in shaping officer wellness and the success of these initiatives
Memory Stewardship: Preventing Confabulation in Child Victim Statements
Confabulation consists of a false memory report. Some scholars consider confabulation a clinical symptom of a neurological disorder. Others view the subject more broadly. Regardless of the boundaries of the definition, confabulation is an example of false memory. False memory reports can occur under many circumstances. The details of these circumstances, as well as the general cognitive processes that dictate memory, are important to understand, particularly to those who rely on memory for the purposes of forensic investigations. In order to use memory statements to reliable effect, the investigator or interviewer must understand how their own actions, the actions of others, and the actions of the interviewee can inadvertently influence the memory in question. By understanding the malleability of memory, its purpose, and how it is influenced, the interviewer can develop and utilize strategies to preserve accuracy and retrieve information without undue contamination. This literature review analyzed reports on the ways in which memory functions, various theories concerning the purpose of memory, and how these lessons can help interviewers preserve memory and prevent spontaneous confabulation, particularly in the developmental stages of childhood
The Role of Parental Involvement in Student Academic Achievement in Lutheran Schools
Parental involvement in academic achievement and faith formation are often studied, yet they are still necessary topics to understand the methods and means to involve parents. Shifts in social dynamics have led to a decline in parental involvement in schools, including declines in involvement in Lutheran schools. This research focused on examining the impact of parent involvement on academic achievement and explored the connection between parent involvement and faith formation in Lutheran schools. Parents\u27 and educators\u27 perceptions of involvement formed the first aspect of the review. Studies on school and parental perceptions examined differing views in preschool and adolescence. Research on specific interventions to gain targeted parent involvement in schools deserves consideration at the family, school, and community levels. The motivations for student achievement and how parents influenced student motivation connected the first three foci of the review. Important to Lutheran education, selected research examined the roles of parents and students in impacting faith formation and academic achievement, connecting to the other three themes. Chapter 3 discussed implications and future research on parental involvement. Parental involvement in faith formation and academic achievement requires communication, empathy, intentionality, and strategic processes to create a successful environment for learning and a framework for schools to follow.

Impact of Restorative Practices on School-Age Students\u27 Social-Emotional Development
This paper explored the impact restorative practices have on the social-emotional development of school-age children. This topic is discussed through research on implementation, perceptions, and lived experiences with restorative practices. The participants of these studies consisted of administrators, staff, and students from elementary, middle, and high schools around the world. The administrators and staff had varying years of experience, and the student participants encompassed many different demographics. Results from the studies reveal three key aspects of social-emotional development for students. These three aspects were relationship building, empathy, and accountability. Additionally, participants generally felt restorative practices and the tools contained within the approach, such as restorative circles, positively impacted students. While the positive impact was well noted, the research also highlighted the need for whole school onboarding, staff and student buy-in, and allowance of time for the model to be fully implemented with fidelity before considering changes. Further research is needed on the ability of restorative practices to curb student misbehavior
Factors of Social and Emotional Development Which Positively Impact Language Acquisition in Early Childhood to Support Well-Being and Academic Development
Students who speak a first language other than English often enter classrooms with educators who may not know how to support second language (L2) development. Even more so, there is little research about L2 development and the social and emotional factors that foster language growth for English language learners (ELL) as it pertains to early childhood. Through quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method studies, research was synthesized to give early childhood educators the necessary insight into factors that foster positive social and emotional growth for these dual language learners’ (DLL) L2 acquisition. Studies suggested that young students benefited from play-based learning environments and may show academic growth benefits as a result of social connection with others (Cekaite & Simonsson, 2023). These studies showed positive results for environments that helped DLLs bilingually bridge between a first language (L1) and an L2. Additional findings suggest connecting students’ culture to the classroom, through family partnership and culturally relevant learning environments, may be attributed to fostering positive student identity while also providing the benefits of language growth and social and emotional support (García-Alvarado et al., 2022). The research suggested the importance of social learning environments for DLLs, which may create a stronger connection between learning an L2 and student well-being and overall development (Winsler et al., 2014). With this knowledge, DLLs’ social and emotional development skills will thrive in environments where L2 acquisition can occur naturally through learning.

Correlation between Shoulder Kinematics and Functional Outcomes Following Anatomic Total Shoulder Arthroplasty - A Pilot Study
Introduction Background: Following a TSA, patients achieve pain relief, restoration of range of motion, improvements in patient-reported outcomes, and report overall satisfaction with their replaced shoulder3-5 Purpose: To examine Scapulothoracic (ST) kinematics on self-reported shoulder function outcomes Hypothesis: There will be a statistically significant correlation between ST kinematics and self-reported satisfaction of function in participants who are more than one year post-a TSA
Methods Participants: 14 subjects between 56-81 years old who underwent a TSA replacements at least one year ago by 1 of 3 orthopedic surgeons from one midwestern healthcare organization Tests & Measures: Penn Shoulder Scale (PSS) Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand(DASH) G4 motion capture
Analysis
Study Design: Assess for correlation between DASH and PSS and between the kinematic data of Upward Rotation (UR), Internal Rotation (IR), Posterior Tilting (PT) of the scapula using Spearman’s Rank Order Correlations SPSS 29(Chicago, IL) was used for analyses; p \u3c 0.05
Results Mean PSS score: 86.50 Mean DASH score: 8.09 Correlation of PSS to scapular Internal rotation (r =-.371, p = 0.171) Post-Hoc analysis findings: Sample size of 50 participants may yield significant correlation
Discussion Further investigation needed Changing from DASH to PSS changes shoulder function correlation PSS specifically asks patients to rate difficulty of performing tasks with operative limb, which may not be the extremity normally used for that task DASH is non-specific and asks patient to rate difficulty of performing the task with either limb
Conclusion No significant correlation between scapulothoracic kinematics and shoulder function A larger sample size would likely reveal correlation between PSS and Internal Rotation
Clinical Relevance
Further research could allow emphasis on specific motions during rehabilitation to promote improved functio
The Importance of Holistic Youth Development in Sports
This research explores the role of youth sports in promoting holistic development and the acquisition of lifelong skills. While the benefits of physical activity are widely recognized, this study investigates how participation in organized youth sports contributes to holistic growth, identity formation, and the cultivation of transferable life skills such as discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, data will be collected from current and former youth athletes through an online survey and personal interviews, aiming to capture both quantitative and qualitative reflections on their sports experiences. Independent variables such as coaching philosophy, access and inclusion, and program design were reviewed to assess their influence on developmental outcomes. The findings reveal a strong correlation between supportive, developmentally focused sports environments and the long-term personal growth of participants. The study highlights the importance of intentional programming and mentorship in youth athletics and provides insights for coaches, educators, and leaders seeking to foster enriching sports experiences that prioritize whole development of the child
The Study of Gender Inequality in College and Professional Sports
This project studied the relationship between gender inequality in college and professional sports. Funding, airtime, and pay have all been topics of conversation through the years when talking about inequality. Men’s athletes tend to receive more airtime and higher pay through multiple sports and competitions. This research aimed to educate the population on discrepancies and to inform people that there is a lack of equality. There is a bias of opinion that men’s sports are aired more often due to the popularity of the games. Through observational research, data was collected on the March Madness tournament and compared the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball teams. The information was then displayed in charts which allowed for easy comparison. If applied, the goal of this study would be to create equal airtime between each game during the NCAA basketball tournament. From there, further research can be done on other tournaments whether that be professional or college

With increasing numbers of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, the focus is on FASD and the impact it has on mothers’, their unborn child, and the consequences that will lead to long-lasting effects. Once women find out that they are expecting, they stop drinking alcohol, but there is still statistic that shows about 8% of women reported that they continue to consume alcohol during their pregnancy. The paper will also include multiple real-life examples of studies that have been conducted on individuals with FASD. With studies focusing on individuals with FASD, it will also include different populations with FASD, and the living experiences of individuals with FASD. Another area of interest to focus on in this paper is not only how FASD affects childhood and adolescence in individuals, but also the lasting impacts on adults based on the physical and whole-body of an individual with FASD. Another area of interest in this topic is how the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may have an impact on individuals who are pregnant may be influenced to drink while pregnant. Finally, this paper will include individuals with FASD and their interaction with the criminal justice system, learning and education for practitioners working with individuals with FASD, and stigma. There will be mentions of suggestions and limitations in the research conducted
