With the illusion of new life : emigration propaganda to the United States in the Habsburg Empire
Full text linkThe study deals with the issue of emigration propaganda in the Habsburg Monarchy during 19th century until the outbreak of the First World War in the context of emigration issues. Specifically, it focuses on the analysis profit by selling one-way ticket to overseas, in fact to USA. This service was provided by agents of shipping companies, who often operated at the edge of the law. The Habsburg monarchy, due to liberalism, did not want to change the established system and tolerated emigration from the country. It never prohibited the operation of agents or travel agencies in its territory and left them relatively calm
Toponyms in Czech, Croatian and Bulgarian phraseology
Full text linkPublikace kontrastivního charakteru se věnuje frazeologii češtiny, chorvatštiny a bulharštiny (v teoretické rovině pak i slovenštiny). Je zaměřena na frazémy, jež ve své struktuře obsahují toponymický komponent. Tyto frazémy jsou analyzovány a v rámci analýz rovněž konfrontovány z hlediska formálního, sémantického, motivačního, typologického i z hlediska původu. Současně publikace zahrnuje v potřebné míře teorii vlastního jména. Nedílnou součást knihy tvoří též kapitoly představující zásadní české, slovenské, chorvatské a bulharské frazeologické teorie a také ucelený přehled česko-slovenské a jihoslovanské (tj. bulharské a [post]jugoslávské) frazeologické literatury. ,The publication has a contrastive character and focuses on the phraseology of Czech, Croatian and Bulgarian languages (in theoretical terms also Slovak). It focuses on phrasemes that contain a toponymic component in their structure. The phrasemes are analysed and confronted in terms of form, semantics, motivation, typology and origin. At the same time, the book deals to the necessary extent with the theory of proper names. The publication includes chapters presenting the fundamental Czech, Slovak, Croatian and Bulgarian phraseological theories, as well as a comprehensive review of the Czech-Slovak and South Slavic (i.e. Bulgarian and [post-]Yugoslav) phraseological literature
The influence of teacher education on the development of their professional vision
Full text linkProfesní vidění jako schopnost identifikovat ve viděném podstatné jevy, připisovat jim význam a uvažovat nad nimi v souladu s dostupným poznáním je důležitá součást profesního rozvoje učitele, neboť učitelovo vnímání situací ve výuce ovlivňuje jeho rozhodování a jednání, a má tak vliv i na kvalitu výuky. Studie zkoumá, jaký vliv na rozvoj profesního vidění má ta část univerzitního studia učitelství, která zahrnuje zejména oborově-didaktické kurzy a oborovou praxi. V žádném z kurzů nebylo profesní vidění cíleně rozvíjeno. Studie se účastnili studenti učitelství 1. stupně a studenti učitelství anglického jazyka, biologie, výtvarné výchovy a matematiky (N = 114). Analýzou jejich písemných reflexí videozáznamu v pretestu a posttestu bylo zjištěno, že u nich došlo k posunům v obou dimenzích profesního vidění, a to ve výběrovém zaměření pozornosti i uvažování založeném na vědění. Studenti na konci studia si významně více všímají záležitostí týkajících se kurikula, oboru a oborové didaktiky (v zaměření na žáka a jeho činnost v hodině nedošlo ke změně) a více komentují konkrétní výukové situace oproti poskytování obecných komentářů. Zároveň studenti v závěru studia pozorované jevy méně často subjektivně hodnotí bez zdůvodnění, více je vysvětlují, někdy i s oporou v teorii (tato změna nebyla statisticky signifikantní). Tyto posuny v profesním vidění lze považovat z hlediska profesního rozvoje budoucích učitelů za žádoucí, chybějící posuny lze podpořit cílenými intervencemi.Professional vision, as the ability to identify important phenomena within what is observed, to ascribe meaning to them, and to reason about them in accordance with the available knowledge, is an important part of teachers\u27 professional development, as their perceptions of teaching situations influence their decisions and actions, and thus the quality of their teaching. The study explores how professional vision is influenced by the part of university teacher education that includes mainly subject-didactic courses and teaching practice. The development of professional vision was not targeted in any of the courses. The participants were future elementary teachers and future teachers of the English language, biology, mathematics, and art (N = 114). The analysis of their written reflections of a video-recording of a lesson in the pre-test and post-test uncovered developments in both dimensions of professional vision, i.e., selective attention and knowledge-based reasoning. Student teachers at the end of their university studies commented significantly more on matters of curricula, subject, and subject didactics (there was no change in their focus on the pupils and their activities in the lesson) and commented more on concrete moments in the lesson as opposed to providing general comments. Moreover, in the post-test, the student teachers evaluated the observed moments less frequently without justification; they explained the moments more, sometimes using theory (this shift was not statistically significant). This development of professional vision is desirable in terms of future teachers\u27 professional development. Missing shifts can be supported by specific interventions
Christian Gottfried Krause: Von der musikalischen Poesie : an annotated translation
Full text linkPojednání „Von der musikalischen Poesie“ náleží ke spíše opomíjeným spisům berlínské provenience druhé poloviny 18. století. Je tomu tak i přesto, že toto nejrozsáhlejší dílo Christiana Gottfrieda Krauseho mělo nezanedbatelný vliv na utváření estetických názorů jeho současníků i autorů o generaci mladších. Inspiroval se jím např. J. J. Quantz, J. A. Hiller, J. F. Reichardt či J. G. Sulzer. Krauseho pojednání ovlivnilo též formování estetických náhledů v pražském intelektuálním prostředí kolem roku 1800 a v několika následujících desetiletích. Spis je cenným zdrojem informací týkajících se problematiky související s estetickými, teoretickými i provozně praktickými otázkami hudebního umění 2. poloviny 18. století. ,"Von der musikalischen Poesie" can be recognised as one of the hitherto unjustly neglected and less known writings of the Berlin provenance of the second half of the 18th century – despite the figure of Ch. G. Krause and his most extensive work had a considerable influence on the formation of the aesthetic views of his contemporaries as well as a generation younger authors. Furthermore, Krause\u27s treatise influenced the formation of the Prague intellectual milieu aesthetic views around 1800 and in the several decades that followed. The treatise offers a lot of valuable information for research related to the aesthetic, theoretical and practical aspects of musical art in the second half of the 18th century
The urban and rural cultural area : diachrony and synchrony of topos and literature
Full text linkAutor přítomné úvahy ukazuje na význam městských a venkovských kulturních areálů jako zrcadlo synchronie a diachronie konfliktních principů odhalujících prostupování minulosti a přítomnosti. Tato situace je demonstrována na materiálu díla českého romanopisce F. X. Svobody, zvláště na jeho románech líčících městské prostředí Prahy na sklonku 19. století, a v kulturním areálu západní Moravy, kde se narodili vůdčí čeští básníci 20. století ve vesnicích nebo provinčních městech realizujících obraz této krajiny. Specifickým rysem tohoto kulturního areálu je potenciál syntetizovat často protikladnou poetiku, např. katolickou a avantgardní.The author of the present reflection demonstrates the significance of the urban and rural cultural areas as a mirror of synchrony and diachrony as conflicting principles revealing the permeation of the past and the present. This situation is being demonstrated on the material of the work of the Czech novelist F. X. Svoboda, especially on his novels depicting the urban environment of Prague towards the end of the 19th century and on the cultural area of West Moravia where the leading Czech 20th-century poets were born in villages or province towns realizing the image of this landscape. The specific feature of this cultural area is a potential to synthetize often contradictory poetics, e. g. Catholic and avant-garde
Dostoevsky in English : teaching Crime and Punishment to British students

Исследовательница делает акцент на разнице между западной и русской философией и литературой. После подробного погружения в русский культурный контекст (необходимого из-за ментальных различий человека русской культуры и британца) автор переходит к анализу романа, сравнивая его героев с героями других произведений русской литературы и обращая внимание студентов на наиболее важные с её точки зрения аспекты произведения.The author of the article describes her experience of teaching the novel Crime and Punishment by the celebrated Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky to British students. The researcher emphasises the difference between Western and Russian philosophy and literature, and gives a detailed description of the Russian cultural context. From a discussion of civilizational differences, the author then moves on to the actual analysis of the novel, and places its heroes in the broader framework of Russian literature. In doing so, she draws attention to what she deems the most significant aspects of Dostoevsky\u27s work
