Ethical Implications of Neurocosmetics in Aesthetic Medicine: Social and Psychological Frameworks
Background: This systematic literature review analyzes the ethical, social, and psychological frameworks that govern the burgeoning field of neurocosmetics within aesthetic medicine. The objective is to synthesize recent scientific advancements from a range of interdisciplinary domains, including dermatology, neuroscience, psychology, and bioethics, to offer an integrated and nuanced perspective.
Methods: The methodology involved a comprehensive analysis of peer-reviewed articles, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses.
Results: The findings indicate that neurocosmetics modulate the neuro-immuno-cutaneous system (NICS) and the skin-brain axis to achieve both aesthetic and psychological effects, with some evidence of improvements in mood and self-perception. However, definitive proof for treating clinical conditions like anxiety and depression remains limited, often relying on small-scale or industry-funded studies. The widespread adoption of these interventions is deeply intertwined with social media, which fosters unrealistic expectations and contributes to a high prevalence of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) among aesthetic patients. This review highlights core ethical dilemmas related to informed consent, the commodification of the human body, and the potential for psychological dependence.
Conclusions: The report concludes that a holistic, patient-centered model of care, which integrates robust psychological screening, cultural competence, and transparent communication, is essential to navigate these ethical complexities. A commitment to rigorous, independent research and a defined regulatory framework are critical to ensure that the future of this field champions mental and emotional well-being alongside physical enhancement.notReviewedothe
Was ist Kindern wichtig?
Big Five Personality Correlates of Death Anxiety: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Death anxiety is associated with numerous negative mental health outcomes. Understanding predictors of death anxiety can help in facilitating targeted interventions. The Big Five personality traits are well understood to influence individuals’ thoughts, attitudes and behaviours, but literature examining their relationship with death anxiety has not been systematically evaluated. A systematic search of six academic databases yielded 1,764 records. After screening these records for eligibility, 31 were included in the current review. Negative associations between death anxiety and conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness was observed across six studies each. Meta-analyses revealed moderate positive associations between death anxiety and neuroticism and a small negative association between death anxiety and extraversion. The current findings provide useful screening tools for targeting interventions at those who are more vulnerable to death anxiety, and subsequent mental health issues. Future research will aid in establishing whether other variables confound, mediate or moderate the relationship between them.Tadgh Connery's research is supported by the National University of Ireland through a Travelling Doctoral Studentship.notReviewedothe
This text is a duplicate of the two articles by Jürgen Kriz (2024) and Gerhard Burda (2024), which were published as responses to Kurt Greiner’s essay ‹Psychotherapy as Text Medicine. An attempt at a general functional paradigm› (2024). Although the two critical essays represent theoretically well-founded discussions of the highest scientific quality, the two replies are teeming with gross misunderstandings and confusions and one repeatedly encounters omissions, distortions, unintentional confirmations and misconceptions. Furthermore, both article critics ignore the essential question of whether psychotherapeutic practice actually works in terms of text medicine and thus miss the actual core of the subject of discussion, namely the proposed text medicine practice formula.questo testo è un duplicato dei due articoli di Jürgen Kriz (2024) e Gerhard Burda (2024), pubblicati come risposta al saggio di Kurt Greiner «Psychotherapie als Textmedizin.

The Appreciative Qualitative Interview: A Research Method for Empowering People
This article introduces the Appreciative Qualitative Interview, a qualitative research technique grounded in Appreciative Inquiry, Social Constructionism, and the narrative turn in psychology. The Appreciative Qualitative Interview emphasizes positive, strength-based questioning to elicit more empowering personal and collective narratives from participants in qualitative research studies. The aim is to uncover and amplify participants' successes, strengths, and aspirations, thereby facilitating a more generative, enabling, and transformative research process. This tutorial article provides a detailed interviewing blueprint for conducting Appreciative Qualitative Interviews, including opening, core, and closing questions. While acknowledging the challenges of overemphasizing positivity, the article highlights the value of this approach within an action research and social constructionist epistemology.reviewedacceptedVersio

Begleitende Beobachtung der 4. Wiederholungsbefragung 2000 (5. Welle der Berliner Altersstudie)
Accompanying observation of the 4th follow-up survey 2000 used during the fifth wave of the Berlin Aging Study. The multidisciplinary Berlin Aging Study (BASE) was conducted by the Research Group on Aging and Societal Development of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences in collaboration with institutes and research centers belonging to the Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. The study was initially directed by a steering committee consisting of the late Paul B. Baltes (chair), head of the BASE Psychology Unit, Karl Ulrich Mayer (vice-chair), head of the BASE Sociology and Social Policy Unit, Hanfried Helmchen, head of the BASE Psychiatry Unit, and Elisabeth Steinhagen-Thiessen, head of the BASE Internal Medicine and Geriatrics Unit. The project was supported financially by several organizations including the German Federal Ministry for Research and Technology (1989–1991, 13 TA 011 + 13 TA 011/A) and the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth (1992–1998, 314-1722-102/9 + 314-1722-102/9a) as well as by the institutions involved. From 2008 to 2011, it was co-sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (01UW0808). The Center for Lifespan Psychology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development has led the project since 2008 and Ulman Lindenberger has meanwhile become the speaker of BASE (see also https://www.mpib-berlin.mpg.de/research/research-centers/lip/projects/aging/base).BASE was established in 1989 to investigate questions about old and very old age from the joint and collaborative perspectives of four disciplines: psychiatry, psychology, sociology, and geriatrics/internal medicine (see Baltes et al., 1993, 2001). The initial goal of BASE (1990–1993) was to obtain extensive baseline information about old and very old age using a 14-session multidisciplinary Intensive Protocol covering older people’s mental and physical health, psychological functioning, and social and economic situation. The study design called for an age-by-sex stratified heterogeneous (locally representative) sample of 70- to over-100-year-olds. The central goal of the longitudinal study was to follow-up the core sample of participants who completed this Intensive Protocol. Extensive information about the baseline sample selectivity, assessment procedures, and cross-sectional findings are reported in Mayer and Baltes (1996; Baltes & Mayer, 1999; Baltes & Smith, 1997; Lindenberger et al., 1999).Begleitende Beobachtung der 4.
