Code for: Mediation of effects of a CHW-led intervention in an ethnically diverse sample
This project involves secondary analysis of data from the Strong Minds, Strong Communities (SMSC) randomized controlled trial. SMSC is a CHW-led intervention that included training in mindfulness and encouraged active engagement and self-efficacy in managing mental health care, and we aimed to examine several hypothesized mediators of change based on theoretical mechanisms of action. Models tested the direct effects of the intervention on outcomes (depression, anxiety, functional impairment) as well as the indirect effects of proposed mediators (mindfulness, patient activation, self-efficacy, and working alliance). Exploratory analyses examined moderation by racial/ethnic group (Latinx, Asian, Non-Latino Black, and Non-Latino White).unknownunknow
How environmental psychologists can engage with system-level processes
In response to the urgency and scale of climate change, mitigation and adaptation require transforming existing systems. We contend that despite its focus on the individual, environmental psychology must strive for systemic and structural solutions to address the climate crisis. We ideate how environmental psychologists can engage with system-level processes. First, environmental psychologists can serve descriptive functions. They can investigate how individual actions (and inactions) are embedded in broader societal forces. And contribute to work in neighbouring disciplines by studying perceptions of transformative system-level agendas. Next, we underscore environmental psychologists’ role in investigating ways to achieve environmentally impactful transformations. Third, psychologists can facilitate public participation in systemic processes by focusing on relevant outcome measures (such as policy support and sufficiency) and adopting deliberative research methods. Finally, deconstructing differences in feasibility and access across contexts, they can further empower collective endeavours to demand social and climate justice. Given the complexity of the global climate crisis, environmental psychology must expand its focus beyond the individual to the system in order to create meaningful impact.reviewedacceptedVersio
Does a repeating response retrieve the n-1 task? A task-switching experiment with fictitious cards
In task switching, response repetitions (RR) usually yield performance benefits compared to response switches, but only when the task repeats. When the task switches, RR benefits vanish or even turn into costs, yielding an interaction between repeating versus switching the task and the response. Several theoretical accounts were proposed to explain this interaction. In this study, we tested a prediction derived from binding and retrieval accounts which assumes that task and response are bound in each trial N. Moreover, when the task or the response repeats, it retrieves the task-response binding formed in the N−1 trial. A previous study, we showed that repeating the task indeed retrieves the response. Namely, we found higher probability of erroneously repeating the same response as in N-1 when the repeats than when it switches. This can explain why RR benefits are found in task repetitions. We now wish to examine whether repeating the response retrieves the previous task. To this aim, we will examine whether the probability of erroneously performing the n-1 task is higher in response repetitions than switches. This could explain why RR costs are found in task switches. Such an erroneous selection of the N-1 task in response repetitions might reflect retrieval of the previous episode and thus bring further support to the episodic retrieval account for the RR effect in task switching.unknownothe

Self, consciousness, and being: The transcendent perspective >> Chapter 24 (The Hard Problem Made Easy) + Book Reference List
Chapter 24 details how the perpsective on the self that is the main topic of the book helps resolve the hard problem of consciousness. The book as a whole argues that there is a best design for the human self, making the case in favour of the transcendent self-view – a perspective on the self that transcends ideas and viewpoints generally, seeing and treating them as subordinate facets of a total self that has empty consciousness, the underlying essence of consciousness itself, as its resting focus and core. The two main claims defended are, first, that it is the one self-view that fully and accurately reflects our true behavioural and experiential nature; second, that making it the basis of the fully developed human self, whilst also maintaining unique personal elements, should be an aim for both the individual and educational professionals. For the individual, taking this step may be thought of as personal transcendence and may even be given a spiritual slant, but it is best seen as an everyday kind of transcendence that is really nothing special – just a sensible and logical endpoint to human development. Chapter 1 is a full summary of the main points and arguments of the book.unknownpublishedVersio
Basics for young teams - Breaking grounds in communication, conflict and time management
This module handbook discusses various concepts, methods and exercises for training communication, conflict resolution and time management in teams, explains their application step by step and provides materials. As a team of different people, you are always faced with challenges that can be different at every stage of team building. For example, it is worth placing particular emphasis on team building in companies, especially when they are still young. It forms the basis for the long-term formation of a good corporate culture, which in turn provides a rich soil for motivation and cooperation. Solving individual problems and conflicts can be very time-consuming and can also consume additional resources that could be used for other purposes. For this reason, it is worth tackling the root causes of team building problems head on. Fortunately, various problems and conflicts in teams share a common cause, namely communication.unknow
80 years of Holocaust remembrance / liberation of Auschwitz – “Culture of remembrance in the spell of the extreme” – critical cultural and peace work in integrative therapy – new published 2025
The text takes up a work of the autor from 2015, which was written on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz (27.01.1945) and explores the „dark side“ of human beings on the basis of further atrocities, acts of extremism, for example in the wars in the Balkans, etc. A culture of remembrance must be built for such democides/genocides, pogroms, which helps us not to deny the inconceivable, to recognise the dangerousness of human beings and to become ready and able to act, to confront malignant dynamics and to invest in peace work. An „awakening“ (Walter Benjamin) is necessary to recognise devolutionary destructiveness and to strengthen the constructive forces of human beings.https://www.fpi-publikation.de/polyloge/03-2025-petzold-h-g-sieper-j-2015c-2022d-80-jahre-holocaust-gedenken-befreiung-von-auschwitz-erinnerungskultur-im-bannkreis-des-extremen-kritische-kultur-und-fr/peerReviewedpublishedVersio
Wilhelm Wundt in Großbothen and in Heidelberg - Myth and Reality. An illuminating look at accessible primary sources
For several decades, there have been various campaigns for the preservation and renovation of a so-called "Wilhelm Wundt House" in Großbothen near Leipzig, appealing to public funds and private donations both nationally and internationally. This overlooks the fact that Wilhelm Wundt owned a house in Heidelberg from 1902 to 1919, which he regularly visited during the winter and summer semester holidays, and which he only reluctantly gave up on account of the housing shortage after the First World War, which had led to the mandatory lodging of refugees in private houses. Basing on numerous primary sources, we attempt to shed light on the significance of Heidelberg and Großbothen in Wilhelm Wundt's life at the beginning of the 20th century. Along the way, we will correct several errors that can be found in the secondary literature and on various websites about Wilhelm Wundt and Großbothen. As we will argue in the following, a "Wilhelm Wundt House" in Großbothen exists at best in name only. Anything else is a myth.English Translation of the original German article:
