The Role of a Mother in 2022 America
Familial roles, household work distribution, and opinions concerning the operation of a household have been a popular topic of discussion within recent years. Many people push for fathers and mothers to take on equal amounts of housework and childcare duties, but previous research suggests that this often fails to happen. This paper uses 2022 survey data to investigate how demographic characteristics can predict who does the chores in the home, and how an individual believes a home should operate. Chi-Square tests, Fisher’s Exact tests, and logistic regression models show evidence that sex does still influence who is responsible for household chores related to childcare, as well as opinions on if a mother should work in or outside the home. However, no evidence was found that any other demographic variables influence these decisions. Recognizing and understanding these trends is important because it sheds light on how mothers and their responsibilities are perceived by the greater American public. Additionally, researchers have found that this second shift, or the extra unpaid childcare and housework, expected from mothers is linked to an increase in parental burnout, as well as anxiety
The Impact of Immigration on Resource Allocation in Minnesota School Districts
This project explores the impact of immigrant student populations on Minnesota school districts\u27 resource distribution and sustainability. By analyzing county-level immigration data alongside district enrollment counts, the research examines how an increase in immigrant students influences the allocation of educational resources within districts. Key components of this study include researching the formula-based state funding for districts, which addresses policy and equity issues; and assessing the marginal costs and benefits associated with each additional student, involving the analysis of economic cost structures. Additionally, the project incorporates an oral history component, using interviews with school administrators to gain insights into the financial impact of immigration in rural districts. This analysis aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how rural school districts leverage the Minnesota state funding formula through the enrollment of immigrant students, as well as the implications for long-term educational and community sustainability
