Na marginesie i w szczelinie przeciw terrorowi faktu. O książce Aleksandry Ubertowskiej Holokaust. Auto(tanato)grafie
Aside and in a Slot against the Terror of the FactThe text is an extensive review of the book by Aleksandra Ubertowska titled “The Holocaust. Auto (tanato) graphies.” It underlines, first of all, topics related to the diversity of possible representations of the Annihilation and the revision of the views of the researchers who approach fictionalisation of that event in an orthodox way. The author tries to approach critically Ubertowska’s concept as well as her outlook on representations of the Holocaust. She also looks at the terminology used in the book and seizing the opportunity she presents attitudes of other researchers dealing with this subject, which are very far different from each other sometimes. Therefore the text broaches such issues as: inexpressibility of the Holocaust, ethics of representation, postmemory, dual status of a historian and a participant

There are no/mad women in the attic. O książce Moniki Świerkosz „W przestrzeniach tradycji. Proza Izabeli Filipiak i Olgi Tokarczuk w sporach o literaturę, kanon i feminizm”.
There are no/mad women in this atticThe basis of the contemplations contained in the article is a book by Monica Świerkosz titled In the space of tradition. Prose of Izabela Filipiak and Olga Tokarczuk in disputes about literature, canon and feminism. The author of the sketch outlines the threads on the feminist discourse about the past, which remain the key to the book’s analyses and reconstructs the importance of nomadic methodological project, which by criticising the concept of feminine continuum enables the expansion of languages to interpret “text genealogy” of contemporary Polish female writers
Literackie kryptoteologie nowoczesności, czyli o pierwszeństwie świata
Literary Cryptotheologies of Modernity, or the Primacy of the World This essay is an extended analysis of two aphorisms: Angelus Silesius’ sacred epigram on “the rose without why” and Paul Celan’s sentence on the hidden god of the poem. While there seems to be no direct connection between them, I nonetheless interpret them as belonging to – or even stronger, creating – the same paradigm of a typically modern religiosity which I call here a literary cryptotheology: a peculiar religion of deus absconditus who conceals himself and retreats in the background in order to let the world and the creation come stronger to the fore. Thus, if the “mystical rose” is to reach its full glory and achieve an autotelic existence causa sui or “without why,” which so far had only been God’s attribute, God the Creator must become a “hidden God,” i.e. conceal his blinding splendour. By playing on the Lurianic motif of tsimtsum, “God’s withdrawal,” and its avatars in the modern thought from Hegel to Derrida, I wish to outline a peculiar “religion of the World” – neither simply secular, nor traditionally theological – which I see as the unique modern contribution to the evolution of religious faith. In modernity, faith does not disappear: it only changes its object
Wpływ postaw rodzicielskich na sposób żywienia dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym w Krakowie na tle uwarunkowań socjo-demograficznych
Preschool period is a stage of intensive development of the food preferences and the pro-health attitudes associated with normal eating behaviors and consequently eating habits in adulthood. The aim of the study was to assess eating behaviors of children attending kindergartens in relation to selected socio-economic factors in their families. The study was conducted in a group of 325 children, whose average age was 5.23 ±1.30 years, attending nine kindergartens in Krakow. The questionnaire was filled in by 51.4% (N = 167) of parents of boys and 48.6% (N = 158) of girls. To conduct qualitative assessment of nutrition habits the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) was used with addition of questions regarding the socio-economic situation of the surveyed families. Differences in selected dietary behaviors of children were evaluated by gender, family income and parents’ educational level. The study indicates the existence of the relationship between food-related behaviour of preschool children and parents’ education level and family income. The resulting image of dietary behaviours of children in the study group has identified numerous anomalies that require an active and ongoing nutrition education for children and their parents
Osoby starsze na rynkach pracy w krajach Unii Europejskiej – wybrane aspekty
Older workers on labour markets in the European Union countries: Selected aspectsThe aim of this article is to characterise briefly the situation of older workers on labour markets in the European Union countries. Taking into consideration that they constitute one of the most problematic groups on the labour markets, main indicators such as activity employment and unemployment rates were presented to illustrate their situation. Also, key solutions which help to increase and stimulate the professional activity among older workers in the European countries were described and analysed. The discussion of these problems confirm the assumption that ageing of societies, one of the main challenges of this century, is a very important factor influencing the level of employment and the direction of employment policy in the countries of the EU. Moreover, it is a key element in the Europe 2020 strategy
Znaczenie inteligencji kulturowej w kierowaniu zespołami międzynarodowymi
The importance of cultural intelligence in managing international teamsIn the contemporary world, economically and communicatively interconnected, more and more people live and work in different cultural environment. Expansion of transnational corporations, development of international joint ventures, strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and international project teams cause growing demand for professionals – expatriates and inpatriates – travelling and working worldwide. Sometimes virtual solutions are employed in managing international teams. Business practice shows that international managers have to face much more difficult challenges than domestic ones. Globalization, with the growing mobility of highly educated, talented people, resulted in the development of global labour market, powered by professionals coming from diverse countries and cultures. As a result, the intercultural problems and conflicts become more and more burning, which creates the need for cultural intelligence – an important attribute of expatriates, together with general intelligence, emotional intelligence, and other managerial competencies which was the reason for researching cultural intelligence in international business. The aim of this paper is to identify the essence, the origin, the dimensionsn and the sub-dimensions of cultural intelligence, and to indicate its importance in different types of international teams. Studies and analysis of relevant sources were conducted to complete the task. To present the results of the findings the monographic method was utilized
Eukaryotic Microbial Communities Associated with Rock-dwelling Foliose Lichens: A Functional Morphological and Microecological Analysis
Lichens are widely recognized as important examples of a fungal-algal or fungal-cyanophyte symbiosis; and in some cases they are a major food source for some animal grazers such as caribou (Rangifer tarandus), especially in the Arctic during winter. However, relatively little is known about the ecology of their co-associated bacterial and protistan communities. This is one of the first reports of an analysis of microbial communities associated with rock-dwelling foliose lichens (Flavoparmelia sp.), including a more detailed analysis of the microbial communities associated with segments of the shield-like, radially arranged lobes. Samples were taken from lichens on granite boulders beneath an oak and maple tree stand on the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Campus, Palisades, N.Y. The bacteria and protist members of the lichen associated microbial communities are comparable to recently reported associations for foliose lichens growing on tree bark at the same locale, including the presence of large myxomycete plasmodial amebas, heterotrophic nanoflagellates, and naked and testate amebas. To obtain evidence of possible differences in the microecology of different portions of each radial lobe, three segments of the radial lobe in the shield-like lichen were sampled: 1) inner, more mature, central segment; 2) middle section linking the central and peripheral segments; and 3) outer, peripheral, usually broader, less closely attached segment. The mean densities (number/g) and biomasses (µg/g) of bacteria and heterotrophic nanoflagellates were highest in the older central segment and lowest in the peripheral segment of the radial lobes, especially when expressed on moist weight basis. Large myxomycete plasmodial amebas were typically located in the outermost segment of the radial lobe. The proportion of vannellid amebas (Vannella spp. and Cochliopodium spp.) were significantly more abundant in the samples of the inner lobes compared to non-vannellid amebas that were more prevalent in the outer lobes. The outer segment of the thallus lobe was typically more spongiose and absorbed more water per unit weight (based on a wet/dry-weight ratio) than the innermost segment. In general, patterns of densities and taxonomic composition of bacteria and eukaryotic microbes intergraded from the inner most segment to the outer part of each lobe – indicating a possible microecological gradient, coincident with the age-related and morphological radial gradations of the lobe. Overall, the evidence shows that the radial variation in the morphology and age-related variables of the three lobe segments may affect the microenvironment of the lobe segments and hence influence the organization of the microbial communities within each segment
A New Species of Flamella (Amoebozoa, Variosea, Gracilipodida) Isolated from a Freshwater Pool in Southern Mississippi, USA
We isolated and identified a freshwater amoebozoan species that belongs to the genus Flamella Schaeffer, 1926 by single cell isolation and light microscopy. Our specific strain was isolated from a water sample obtained on the cover of a swimming pool in Petal, Mississippi, USA collected during the winter of 2015. Morphologically, our isolate is a fan-shaped amoeba with a large, frontal hyaloplasm and distinctive granuloplasm. It is capable of encystment and trophozoites occasionally have two nuclei. The isolate (GFP151sc) is phylogenetically sister to but unique from the freshwater environmental flamellid clone from Borok, Yaroslavl region, Russia originally published in 2006. Here we describe and place this isolate into a new species, Flamella piscinae n. sp
