Kształtowanie się wskaźnika HDI w Chinach w latach 1980–2013 na tle pozostałych krajów BRICS
Formation of the HDI in China in the years 1980–2013 as compared to other BRICS countriesThe aim of this article is to analyze changes in the Human Development Index in BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa in the years 1980–2013. This study shows the contribution of each component index since 1980 for all BRICS countries: life expectancy of birth, expected years of schooling, mean years of schooling, gross national income per capita (PPP USD). The article presents HDI value and China’s place in the ranking of the BRICS countries – in 2013 and between 1980–2013
Harmonia jako naczelna zasada chińskiego porządku prawnego – wstęp do rozważań
Harmony as the main principle of the Chinese legal system: an introduction to the discussionChinese legal system is very complex. Understanding Chinese characteristics requires becoming acquainted with Chinese culture and philosophy. Starting from the third generation of leaders we can observe convergence of governance models postulated by Confucianism and Legalism, but in a modern version. From time immemorial, the idea of harmony played a decisive role in Chinese social and political thought. Currently, concepts such as ‘One Belt, One Road’, or the search for economic stabilization as part of the ‘New Normal’ still correspond with striving for harmony in all aspects of life, rooted for centuries in the minds of Chinese citizens. At the current stage of development, to achieve harmony it is necessary to develop a social and political consensus around a new stage of reform and openness policy, social harmony, scientific approach to development and, above all, recognition of the Chinese characteristics
A Position on Classifying and Qualifying Adjectives Revisited
This work is sequel to my paper on the controversy concerning the appropriate syntactic and semantic account of the distinction between classificatory and qualifying adjectives in Polish (Linde-Usiekniewicz 2013). It develops the lines of inquiry suggested therein, mainly the claim that differences between the pre-nominal and post-nominal attributive syntax can only be adequately explained when the lexical meaning of the head noun and the attribute are taken into account – specifically, in the case of relational adjectives, the actual semantic relation between the head noun and the adjective. The interplay between the lexical meanings and the meanings imposed by syntactic order is presented within Encoding Grammar, a multi-layered framework devised in Linde-Usiekniewicz (2012). In particular, postposing of lexically qualitative adjectives and preposing of relational adjectives is presented as a type of coercion, in which the meaning imposed by syntax overrides the lexical meaning of the adjective. The possibilities for and restrictions on the order of multiple adjectives occurring within a noun phrase is explained by proposing a distinction between adjectives that saturate argument positions of the head noun, as in produkcja samochodowa ‘car production’, and adjectives that correspond to adjuncts, as in wycieczka samochodowa ‘car trip’ (cf. Bosque and Picallo 1996). A more fine-grained hierarchy within each class is proposed to account for possible noun—adjective(s) permutations
Incoherent Dictionary Learning for Sparse Representation in Network Anomaly Detection
In this article we present the use of sparse representation of a signal and incoherent dictionary learning method for the purpose of network traffic analysis. In learning process we use 1D INK-SVD algorithm to detect proper dictionary structure. Anomaly detection is realized by parameter estimation of the analyzed signal and its comparative analysis to network traffic profiles. Efficiency of our method is examined with the use of extended set of test traces from real network traffic. Received experimental results confirm effectiveness of the presented method
On the Path Sequence of a Graph
A subset S of vertices of a graph G = (V,E) is called a k-path vertex cover if every path on k vertices in G contains at least one vertex from S. Denote by Ψk (G) the minimum cardinality of a k-path vertex cover in G and form a sequence Ψ (G) = (Ψ1 (G), Ψ2 (G), . . . , Ψ|V| (G)), called the path sequence of G. In this paper we prove necessary and sufficient conditions for two integers to appear on fixed positions in Ψ(G). A complete list of all possible path sequences (with multiplicities) for small connected graphs is also given
Superstructures of modernist tenement houses - chances and threats
Attic adaptations and superstructures in tenement houses in city centres enjoy considerable interest, in spite of a rich offer of apartments available on the primary market. It can be assumed that a historic neighbourhood and a possibility to live in an old building is sometimes an attractive choice. Tenement houses built in the 1930s are particularly sought after by investors. Most frequently the houses are located in so called “better” city districts, have spacious and comfortable staircases (often equipped with lifts) and, as a rule, are in a better technical state than older houses. R egretfully, superstructures of modernist tenement houses completed so far, too rarely have been examples of a successful architectural intervention. The paper presents several selected cases from Cracow, pointing to problems related to the protection of residential architecture of the period
Geographical altitude coefficient utilisation for wind gust loading determination in the mountainous terrain of the Transcarpathian region
This paper presents the method and results of a geographical altitude factor calculation to determine wind loading Calt at 9 meteorological stations in the Transcarpathian region. According to state building standards В.1.2-2:2006, the coefficient of geographical altitude is used to calculate wind pressure while positioning the building site at an altitude of up to 0.5 km it equals 1, at altitudes higher than 0.5 km, it is determined using the formula Calt = 4H–1. With the help of the suggested method, according to 23 directions and high wind coefficients, as well as data of meteorological observations from 1955−2005, the coefficients of geographical altitude were calculated to determine wind loading in July and January for each residential site, the peaks and mountain passes for the Transcarpathian region of Ukrainian Carpathians
Water quality in recreational reservoirs in the Cracow area
This paper presents a water quality assessment for the eight recreational water reservoirs located in the Cracow area. This assessment was performed on the basis of water samples collected during three seasons in 2013. The results showed that in the majority of these reservoirs, water had a good level of quality (class II), and was also suitable for recreational purposes (bathing) and as a fish habitat. In reservoirs where water quality parameters were below threshold levels (unclassifiable), such conditions resulted primarily from the location being in the vicinity of pollution surface run-off sources
The role and significance of archaeological heritage in the contemporary urban space
Archaeological heritage comes under special protection owing to its subtlety and non-renewability of stratigraphic context and is closely connected with the surroundings. Relics of the past unveiled during archaeological explorations in the centre of a city or within its confines, which by law should remain in situ, may favourably affect the spatial development of the city, improve the economy of the region by increasing or intensifying tourism. The author emphasises the fact that the contemporary approach to the exposition of archaeological heritage need not be restricted to the form of reservation which creates a kind of a separate place of “historical sacrum”, but should incorporate it into the tissue of the city, revitalising the unveiled relics. Recently it has been an increasingly common phenomenon, proving the changes in the approach to the possibility of creation in the historic space of a city. The examples of the latest realizations presented in the article show the present-day tendencies in preservation design and heritage protection as well as a trend in the changes taking place
