Motywy ekspansji zagranicznej polskich przedsiębiorstw ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ryzyka politycznego
The need for facing up the competitors and the wish to build the competitive advantage on the market contribute to enterprises’ expansion abroad. The decision concerning geographical expansion may be caused by making advantage of chances which appear on foreign markets. Nevertheless, it can also happen that adverse conditions of the enterprise’s external environment make the presence in the host country difficult or even impossible. This situation can appear when the political risk occurs in the country of expansion. The purpose of this paper is to present the characteristics of the enterprises’ motives of expansion on foreign markets with particular emphasis on the nature and specificity of political risk. In order to illustrate this important problem, the author made a synthetic analysis of the business environment in Ukraine and Russia during the conflict in the East of Europe. In the paper two types of research methods were used: methods of data collection and methods of organising and processing information
Medialna wielozadaniowość – specyfika konstruktu i ujęcie międzykulturowe
Media multitasking: The specificity of the construct and a multicultural contextThe growing importance of the Internet in everyday life, the use of multiple data sources and the necessity of rapid information processing more and more often lead social scientists to attempt to describe and study the phenomenon of media multitasking [Castells, 2007; Rosa, 2013; Ophir, Nass, Wagner, 2009], which constantly generates questions about its cognitive and social consequences as well as the research tools that will allow us to define it. The objective of the article is to review the existing research findings in media multitasking area with a special focus on individual and cross-cultural differences. The presented analysis, including the analysis of the author’s own empirical research conducted using a media multitasking questionnaire, shows significant differences in the simultaneous use of several media between men and women. Age and country of residence also turn out to be important variables. The differences also depend on the type of media processed in a given time
Foreign direct investment in Tunisia: Performance, policies, prospects
Around the turn of the millennium, Tunisia achieved sizeable rates of economic growth. Given the additional fact of an increasing financial deepening and an emerging industry, the country had been considered by many observers as one of the ‘African Lions.’ However, even before the Arab Spring movements started in Tunisia, the average growth rate was still far from the rate required for a fast catch-up with high income economies. This article aims at analysing the role which foreign direct investment (FDI) has played and can play in spurring economic growth in Tunisia. It analyses domestic saving and investment as well as presents patterns of FDI and present promotional policies. The author argues that foreign direct investment can help to overcome some constraints in capital accumulation and even contribute to ‘inclusive growth,’ i.e., a regionally, socially, and inter-generationally balanced growth pattern. There are, however, two preconditions: capital inflows must be directed by appropriate promotional policies and Tunisia must insulate itself from any negative repercussions from the present political unrest in the Middle East and North African region

Morphology and Molecular Phylogeny of the Soil Ciliate Anteholosticha rectangula sp. nov. from King George Island, Maritime Antarctica
The soil ciliate Anteholosticha rectangula nov. spec. was discovered on King George Island in maritime Antarctica. Morphology and the nuclear SSU rDNA sequence were used to describe and infer the phylogenetic position of the new species. Anteholosticha rectangula is morphologically similar to A. bergeri and A. verrucosa, differing primarily by the morphology of the nuclear apparatus and dorsal kineties, respectively. The morphological features of related species are compared and discussed to confirm the validity of the new species. Molecular phylogenetic tree supports the previously reported polyphyly of the genus Anteholosticha
Three-phase squirrel-cage induction generator excited by capacitor battery
The generation of electrical energy in small power plants which use renewable energy sources is often implemented with the use of induction generators. This paper presents a proposal of an energy generation system which is constructed with the use of a three-phase self-excited squirrel-cage induction generator. The idea of this proposal consists of a control method of the generator rotor magnetic flux linkage via fully controlled power electronic switches. The energy produced by the induction generator is transferred to a DC link via an uncontrolled rectifier and a DC-DC chopper. The proposed solution allows us to generate energy with the use of a relatively simple and reliable electrical machine. Additional important advantages of this concept are a small number of controlled elements, and an easy control method
Quaternions – alternative for Euler angles in kinematic analysis of machine mechanisms
The article presents some types of problems that can occur during solving the inverse kinematics and the steps to prevent them. These problems concern the numerical singularities which occur when Euler angles are used to describe the orientation of the mechanism links in space. This paper proposes to eliminate the mentioned numerical singularities by replacing Euler angles with quaternions. The discussed issues were shown on the example of a backhoe excavator equipment system
The important decision – revalorisation of the palace and park complex in Będzin-Gzichów
The Mieroszewski Palace and Park Complex is located in the district of Gzichów in Będzin, a city in the region of the Dąbrowa Basin (the Silesia Province). It is a place of unique architectural value. The design concept results from a thorough examination of the area of the complex followed by a deep research into the history of its architectural features. It takes into account the current needs of the place whilst maintaining respect towards its history. The solutions presented in the project are intended to improve the esthetic value of the complex and make it more attractive for the citizens of Będzin as well as its visitors
Measurements and calculations of temperature in the ground and in assemblies adjacent to an intermittently heated basement
Cellars of the main building of the University of Agriculture in Krakow are used as storage areas, laboratories and as classrooms. This article presents the results of many years of temperature measurements in one cellar room; internal and external air temperature as well as temperatures of the walls, the floor and adjacent ground were recorded. In the winter season, the examined room was intermittently heated. Using measured boundary conditions, transient, three-dimensional heat flow in the basement foundation interface was calculated. WUFI®Plus software was used for calculation. By means of statistical analysis, the calculated temperature distribution in assemblies and the ground was then compared with the measurement results. The analysis allowed for the determination of the accuracy of theoretical calculations of thermal conditions in the environment of the periodically heated cellar room
Disclosure of the value of urban heritage in the Western Ukraine as a way to its preservation
This paper presents the problem concerning preservation of urban heritage by developing the concept of regeneration of historic environment and implementation of specific programmes concerning its protection and preservation. Proposed programmes, concerning protection and preservation of historic potential of the described towns will enhance the value of urban heritage, will create an opportunity to inform the public about historic aspects of the urban development, and reduce the possibility of their mistreating – and inapt attitudes towards historic sites
