Analysis of the influence of winding configuration on the properties of a switched reluctance motor
In this paper, the series configuration of pole winding connections in each phase of a three-phase 12/8 switched reluctance motor was analyzed. Based on the simulation model, the effect of magnetic couplings on motor properties was determined. Static characteristics were obtained for NNSS and NSNS configurations. Voltage, current, and electromagnetic torque waveforms were determined. Simulation results were verified through laboratory tests
Selected problems of bim -based planning of construction works – case study
The article presents the problem of planning works based on the BIM model of a building. The authors briefly discuss the possibility of using BIM as a tool for planning works, and then present the case study. In the case study method in a synthetic manner the planning process presents works based on a model residential building construction. The advantages and opportunities as well as the problems of using BIM as a basis for the planning process of construction works are discussed and commented in the conclusions
Play of tradition and modernity. The interwar competition for the seat of the authorities of the regency of Opole
In this paper the architectural competition for the seat of the authorities of the Regency of Opole of 1929 is presented, its formula, participants, the jury are indicated on the background of examples of German competitions of the interwar period. Analysis of the competition entries enabled definition of their style inspired by the ideas of interwar modernism and also architectural tradition. The jury declared decisively on the side of modern architecture, guaranteeing the new edifice the required representativeness and monumentalism
Deconstruction as a method of shaping space. Drawing – the architect’s medium
The author discusses the process of deconstruction in architecture and the accompanying drawing process, interpreted as an architect’s medium rather than merely a tool for signification, a method of communication between an artist/architect and the world. The architect’s mind finds delight in space, a fleeting thought, idea, concept, a non-verbal shape of future material substance. Drawing, while being an immanent part of the work, is the work in itself, the language that allows for space to be described in its own categories. Drawing as a method of experiencing space reveals the mechanisms through which architecture is shaped
Games of meanings in contemporary architecture
Meanings recorded at different levels of possible connotations become a pretext for the game between the designer and the user of the building. The studies relate to possible levels of connotations of these signs and a game, also the search for them by recipient, which – deriving pleasure from the perception of the art of architecture – can also be described as fun
Modelling of direct acting relief valve using CFD-FSI simu
This paper presents an attempt of using new capabilities of CFD tools in field of fluid-structure interaction simulation, which is called “immersed solids”. This techniques treats solids as objects immersed into fluid domain which moves along with the fluid. This paper presents comparison of selected CFD results of traditional approach and “immersed solids” technique on example of direct acting relief valve
The Discrete Vortex Method for estimating how surface roughness affects aerodynamic drag acting on a long cylinder exposed to wind
This paper focuses on the aerodynamic drag force that acts on a long cylinder standing up to aerodynamic wind in the critical regime of the fluid flow. The core problem addressed here is how surface roughness of a high level and further increase of that level affects the drag. The research is based on computer simulations using the Discrete Vortex Method. A meshless version of the method was applied in order to let the boundary layer form freely in the way of a direct computer simulation. Fundamental ideas behind the Discrete Vortex Method, the original research program and the obtained results are presented. The main conclusion is that a small level of surface roughness may be neglected in engineering estimations
Microprocessor controlled matrix converter connector for power systems
A matrix N×M multiphase converter is a simple structure incorporating N×M bi-directional switches, connecting N input phases to M output phases and able to convert input voltages into output voltages of any shape and frequency. However, commutation problems and complicated control algorithms keep it from being utilized on a large scale. This paper gives a solution to the control system of the multiphase matrix converters for power system application. The practical application of multiphase matrix converters (MC) in power systems involves the study of application requirements, possible converter topologies and the development of new, reliable control algorithms. The MC is working as a connection device between power systems or as an interconnection device within the power system. The proposed tasks performed by the MC in the power system are power flow control and power flow oscillation dumping. The device can be viewed as new FACTS device-series power system connector, based on straightforward energy conversion
Graphicacy capability as a factor enhancing success in engineering disciplines
The analysis of the “state of art” of the research work conducted in Poland and its relation to the foreign research results within the field of “graphicacy” in context of engineering education and gaining success in engineering disciplines is the aim of this work. The pilot study conducted in this respect concerns, in the first stage, the definition of these elements of engineering education which are crucial for graphical subjects to design syllabuses in order to achieve expected learning outcomes. A framework for graphicacy curricula development will be defined while taking into account the element of lifelong learning. In conclusion, the direction of the further research work will be formulated in order to enhance graphicacy capability among engineering students and within engineering studies
One hundred years of teaching artistic disciplines at the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology – the Warsaw School of Architectural Drawing
This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. We would like to have a look at the term of the Warsaw School of Architectural Drawing that has been known for many years. It is present in the environment of the Warsaw architects and the graduate architects from the Warsaw university, however, does anyone use that term outside this group of people? Is the uniqueness experienced by us during plain air sessions, drawing exhibitions and celebrations at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology a fact or only our wish? How the Workshop of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture at WAPW was created and developed? These and other questions, after a hundred years of existence of the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology need an attempt at answering
