A Comparison of Four Types of Evolution Strategies for Beef Cattle Feed Optimization
Beef cattle feed optimization is a multi-objective problem. For different weight of beef cattle, the required nutrition is also different. The feed also requires a balance of nutrients with a low price. This paper presents a comparison of four types of Evolution Strategies (ES) for beef cattle feed optimization. The results of our experiments suggest that the performance and robustness of ES (µ,λ), ES (µ/ρ,λ), and ES (µ+λ) are comparable, while ES (µ/ρ+λ) performs slightly worse. This fact together promotes ES (µ/ρ,λ) as the most robust for practical use. The experimental results show that the feed price obtained from ES (µ/ρ,λ) is 5524.465 with fitness value of 1.809861462
Mathematics Base for Navigation Mobile Robot Using Reachability Petri Net
Navigation is the journey that brings the precision and accuracy especially for the trip from one place to many destinations. Traveling mobile robot will be challenged when there are plenty of travel options and obstacles; it is necessary for special methods to deal with this. Petri net modeling is one method that can be applied in this navigation. As a model network graph, Petri net can be seen as a model of superior visuals for their token moves that define the process dynamics of a system. Other models that have been provided, such as flow charts, block diagrams or network topology, are using the method of mathematical reachability. Meanwhile Petri net obtained the navigation as a result of marking the value. The final results of this research is that Petri net can be used to obtain mobile robot for navigation
Web-based Automatic Monitoring & Scheduling Management of Highland Plantation on Low Ground
This paper proposes an automatic monitoring and scheduling management system for growing highland plants on the low ground. It is hypothesized that the plantation of highland plants on low ground is possible if the basic necessities such as temperature, humidity, lighting and water are monitored and controlled to suit their needs. Basically, this automatic system uses temperature, humidity and light sensor to detect the temperature readings, percentage of relative humidity and light availability respectively. The obtained values are sent to Raspbery Pi and are used for controlling the environment parameters. The desired conditions for the plantation are that the temperature must be below 20 degrees Celsius, the relative humidity must be higher than 60% and the lighting must be sufficient. In case any of the conditions is not achievable, mist spray, peltier and UV light will take respective action to stabilize the condition back to the desired setting. Interestingly, this system allows users to monitor environmental humidity and temperature as well as current activities at the plantation through the website in real time. The results show the system is functioning well since fragile highland plants such as strawberry could survive in normal indoor low ground condition for a fortnight
MOSDA: A Proposal for Multiple Objective Spiral Dynamics Algorithm
This paper proposed a multi-objective spiral dynamic algorithm (MOSDA) to solve multiple objectives problems. SDA is originally a single objective optimizer that inspired based on the spiral phenomena in nature. It has a good elitism strategy and has a simple structure. A method called “archive method” that is used in multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) is adopted into SDA to develop its multiobjective (MO) type algorithm. Moreover, MOSDA is formulated by applying the widely-used concept of Pareto dominance to determine the movement of the particles and at the same time, the algorithm maintains the non-dominated solution in a setup global repository. These non-dominated solutions then will be used to guide other particles to move. The proposed algorithm is tested with several benchmark functions for multi-objective problems. Pareto front (PF) graphs are presented as the results of these tests. The accuracy and diversity of the produced PF are highly competitive compared to MOPSO
Autonomous MEMS Gyroscope and Accelerometer for North Finding System
The precision in detecting the north direction and estimate orientation is highly important. Excellent standard of gyroscopes, such as ring laser gyros, are capable of maintaining measurement at a high level. However, the device and technology required for it are bulky and high in cost. The accuracy of common instruments in detecting direction such as compass and electronics magnetometer can be easily reduced due to electromagnetic interference. Therefore, a continuous rotation method of the Micro-Electro-Mechanical System gyroscope and accelerometer is proposed, in order to seek true north angle. With this method, the issues regarding gyroscope will be solved. Moreover, the autonomous system consists of gyroscope and accelerometer which function in mounting the horizontal shape of the rotating laser controlled by the microcontroller. Moreover, it has been proven that the developed prototype provides an accuracy with complementary filter factor, a = 0.97. In addition, besides the fact that the rotator displays a successful rotation at ±0.02° for a rotation angle ranging from 0° to 360°, an autocollimator has also calibrated the rotator. Apart from that, it has been proven from the field test results that an accuracy of ±1°, is acquired by the developed system, regarding the true north angle that is verified by the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia
Review on Melanoma Skin Cancer Treatment by Cold Atmospheric Plasma
Melanoma is known as the most serious type of skin cancer and the risk of melanoma seems to be around people under 40, especially women. Warning signs of skin cancer can help ensure that cancerous changes are discovered and cured before cancer has spread. Melanoma can be cured successfully if it is detected early. In this review, we discussed the causes, risk factors and prevention methods of melanoma skin cancer, which may lead to early detection of melanoma among people. In addition, this review also shows the stages of melanoma and how to treat melanoma skin cancer. We also highlighted the new suggested skin cancer treatment using cold atmospheric plasma
MANAGING ENGINEERING UNDERGRADUATES’ LANGUAGE ANXIETY: INSTRUCTOR ROLE IN ONLINE THREADED DISCUSSIONS
The advancement of communication technologies has revolutionized language classrooms via the instrumentality of computer networks and its text-based nature has brought about applications such as online threaded discussions. This paper firstly aims to determine whether the engineering undergraduates of Limited English Proficiency (LEP) are affected by the psychological aspects of language learning as well as explore how they interact in online threaded discussions. Besides, it also investigates the instructor’s point of view on instructor intervention in the activity. The Language Profile Forms and the focused group interviews indicate that they lack confidence and are affected by language anxiety. The postings of the 15 LEP undergraduates which were analyzed for emerging themes reveal that they mainly asked questions. Even though their discussions lacked substance and were akin to ‘educationally less valuable talk’ (ELVT), the activity has provided them with the motivation and autonomy to socialize and interact, thus reducing their anxiety. The instructor being the main content provider in the discussion has played an important role in facilitating and enhancing cognitive processing besides keeping the learners engaged
CHARACTERIZING SME SUSTAINABLE (GREEN) PERFORMANCE IN THE GREEN ECONOMIC TRANSITION THROUGH THE ADOPTION OF GREEN MANAGEMENT
Green management is synonym with large organizations and its adoption would be rather new for small medium enterprises (SME) in Malaysia. Therefore, SME which has been under pressure must initiate some moves in transforming into green companies as well as to ensure their survival in the future of the green economic. Hence, this paper attempted to discuss the major influences on SME in realizing a green or sustainable performance. In order to diverge from conventional products into green products compliance, it is crucial to identify new attributes for their existing business conducts. Organizational resources and capabilities should be fully-utilized in manufacturing processes which is abided by the green principles. The built-in of sustainability concept around the business ecosystem is important and inevitable. Ultimately, the research outcome has demonstrated a total of 14 significant observed variables implementation by SME. These are the critical variables that are vital in the green practice and should become a common reason for the future business venture and our nation competitiveness. Consequently, the green economic transition manifested the SME readiness to adopt common strategies to accomplish business advantage.
