    Application of Green Intellectual Property on Green Technology in Malaysia and Its Benefit: A Review of the Literature

    Intellectual property (IP) is commonly associated with a protection of an invention. Green IP exists not only due to the changing climate but also due to the sustenance of the global eco system. Developed countries such as Japan, United States, German and France have used the green intellectual property for their green technology protection. Hence, the Malaysian government should use this system as well. The objective of this paper is to analyse the implementation of Green IP in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. The literature review consists of journals published within the year 2007 to 2017 to determine the meaning of Green IP and how it benefits Malaysia in terms of the social, economy and environmental aspects throughout the literature review. This study will enhance the development of Malaysia's standard in green technology and the development of nation growth

    Design of Compact Pre-Pregger Machine for In House Production of Pre-Preg Material

    The main idea of this project is to conceptually design and simulate a lab-scale pre-pregger machine for in house production of pre-preg material. The aim is to decrease the size of the existing machine and reduce the cost to fabricate it. The concept design of the machine focuses on four major components: drum, resin bath, guider and fiber spindle. The pre-pregger machine is designed with an adaptable drum parameter which can be installed and removed easily from the drum holder. In this project, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) was used to control the pre-pregger machine. The CX-ONE OMRON PLC was chosen to design the ladder diagram of the controller. In order to simulate and test the correctness of the controller, a simple electrical setup has been made. The setup consists of three motors, few sensors and push button. The simulated setup proved that the proposed conceptual design of the pre-pregger machine is workable

    Branding Melaka as a Complete Green City for State Image Enhancement

    The Melaka state government is embarking its vision towards Green City (GC) state by 2020. However, Melaka faces several related sustainable issues such as traffic, public transportation, health problems and others that are big challenges for the Melaka state to implement a complete Green City Branding (GCB). This study was to examine the factors that influence Melaka state towards a complete GCB and to investigate strategies of Melaka state towards a complete GCB. A qualitative approach was utilized by conducting a case study at the Melaka Green Technology Corporation (MGTC) and a semi-structured in-depth interview session was done among fifteen executives to obtain the primary data. Thus, by preventing the Melaka state from being harmed, the benefits of embarking on a complete GCB may be beneficial to the social and economic well-being for the sake of current and future generations. Future studies should be focusing on the hurdles faced by the Melaka state government in implementing a complete GCB because the state government is serious in aiming for the Green City State status

    Green Logistics Implementation Factors: A Study on a Global Logistics Provider

    Green logistics has become the newest trend in doing business that is not just economy sustainable but is also environment sustainable. As the world ecology is becoming worse due to globalization and industrialization with the rising temperature and sea levels, many logistics companies are applying green logistics as it helps mitigate climate change by reducing carbon emissions. This paper identified and analyzed the internal and external factors in implementing green logistics. In this case study, a global logistics company which is DB Schenker Malaysia was chosen as the research location. Qualitative data were obtained through various literatures and through 30 semi-structured open-ended interviews. This study found that there are four internal implementation factors and three external implementation factors in green logistics. The four internal factors are cost efficiency, human resource skills, knowledge and supports, information technology and system, and organization’s/top management support. Meanwhile, the three external factors are public and consumers’ pressures, competitions, and collaboration and integration with suppliers and partners. Findings also indicated that implementing green logistics has many benefits but only a few implementation factors found in the literatures were relevant to DB Schenker Malaysia. Nonetheless, the company still implements green logistics in order to be a top logistics company

    Lean Manufacturing and Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) in Paper Manufacturing and Paper Products Industry

    The purpose of this article is to study the relationship between lean manufacturing methods and overall equipment efficiency (OEE) in paper manufacturing and paper product industry using the one-year data (Jan 2015 - Dec 2015) of five lean manufacturing tools namely single-minute exchange of die (SMED), standardized work (SW), takt time, value stream mapping (VSM) and Kaizen. The current data, which is based on the five lean tools, is compared with the past data which is collected prior to the usage of such tools. Both current and past data are analyzed using IBM SPSS version 22 and the results show that the lean methods are able to reduce waste and increase the OEE. This empirical study gives valuable information to the paper manufacturers and paper product industry in Malaysia on the utilization of lean machines for improving quality and productivity management

    This research was conducted in a multinational hard disk drive manufacturer in Malaysia facing problem of low utilization in automatic testing process. High volumes, high product mix, short life cycle, and long testing duration compound to the existing problem. The automatic tester is called mixed – load tester because of its ability that can load and unload multiple product families simultaneously. Currently, the planner often conducts re-adjustment capacity planning and allocation because of uncertain testing time. The research has objective to optimize the number of testers while achieving the production target under testing time uncertainty in order to improve tester utilization. To handle the uncertainty, robust optimization was employed in the mixed – load tester model. The result shows this proposed model permits adjustment of company`s production manager`s and capacity planner`s attitude towards testing time uncertainty through the robust parameter

    Design of a CAD/CAM-Simulink Data Exchange System For Machine Tool Application

    This paper presents design of a CAD/CAM-Simulink Data Exchange System (CS-DES) that integrates CAD/CAM software and control system architecture with the aim to further enhances capability and flexibility of a prototype milling machine. In its current state, the XY milling table positioning system is controlled using in-house designed position controller that is able to effectively control positions of the milling table using predefined reference trajectory. The application of this position controller is restricted by the signal input forms that are only available via the Simulink reference input signal library.  The proposed system design allows integration of the CAD/CAM technology with the MATLAB/Simulink platform of the control system architecture, enabling variations of input signal types. The designed integrated system allows data input in the forms of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Machining. The main design component of the interface system was developed using MATLAB Graphical User Interactive Development Environment. This paper presents an overview of the system architecture for the CAD/CAM-Simulink data exchange system. A successful implementation of this novel data exchange system would simplify current control system development process thus providing greater flexibility and capability that could be translated into improved performance of the machine tools drives system

    WATER COLUMN FEATURES AND SEAFLOOR CHARACTERISTICS USING SIMULTANEOUS MULTIBEAM WATER COLUMN DETECTION

    Simultaneous mid-water and seafloor classification enables the study of the relationship between seafloor characteristics and water column features known as habitat interactions. Normally, the focus of these data is only on one part of either the water column or the seafloor. This water column data is usually filtered out to form an accurate bathymetric surface. Otherwise, this will cause data duplication or loss and degrade the accuracy of the data. This study aimed to produce a comprehensive map using a Multibeam Echosounder System (MBES). The data acquisition was carried out using WASSP WMB-160f MBES and a camera recorder was used for verification. Data comparison was carried out through bathymetric and backscatter analysis and filtered at the minimum threshold.  The result showed that both data were able to be detected simultaneously at a comparable and effective result without neglecting any details behind. The water column data was at good resolution for detection below the 300 kHz, although the data obtained from this study did not show the real shape and size of the detected object. In addition, the seafloor could also be well detected and properly classified according to survey requirements

    Performance Analysis of Graph Algorithms for Microgrid Protection

    Microgrids are energy systems that consist of distributed energy sources and loads, which can operate in parallel with or independently from the main grid. The integration of renewable Energy System (RES) into microgrid causes the power flow to be bidirectional in nature. Reconfiguration of the microgrid could occur due to RES, load or utility grid connection or disconnection. Thus, conventional protection strategies are not applicable to microgrids and it is challenging for engineers to tackle any faulty issues. This paper proposes graph algorithms, such as the Kruskals and the Prim which aid in identifying the shortest path from a faulted point to the point of common coupling(PCC). Algorithms, such as Floyd Warshall and Djiktra’s algorithms ensure that only minimum portion of the network is disconnected during fault clearance

    Information System for Deciding the Route to Transport Goods Between Bangkok and Mukdahan Province in Thailand

    The objective of this research is to develop an information system for deciding the route to transport goods between Bangkok and Mukdahan province in Thailand. Many techniques are used in this system, such as the risk analysis, analytic hierarchy process and zero-one goal programming. This system is tested by 50 customers from a shipping company in Bangkok, Thailand. The results showed that the system offers shipping cars for customers, and reduces time and errors in finding the transportation routing from staff. Furthermore, the system decreases the time of transaction documents and reduces the time to decide from customer. Staff have not over skill but they can use this program. This research surveys satisfaction of 50 customers. This survey finds the average score of satisfaction is 4.67 from 5. In addition, the number of customers increases by 25.37 percent
