Multi Criteria Decision Making methods is one of the most common methods used to determine the most appropriate material. In the decision making process, there are dissimilarities to elicit, specify and analyse the information on alternatives, criteria and relative significance of the criteria. Fuzzy set has been utilised in Multi Criteria Decision Making methods to optimise the method and created an extended approach to deal with uncertainty and increase the accuracy of decision making. As for many years’ asbestos was viewed as having an optimal performance as a brake pad. However, this material has been banned by the Environmental Protection Agency. Due to the increasing awareness on environmental impact and subsequently the need towards sustainability, selection of the appropriate material for a brake pad that complies with the environment and regulations is vital and natural fibre reinforced composite has potential to replace the asbestos in the automotive brake pad application. Therefore, the objective of this study is to apply the Fuzzy VIKOR to select the best natural fibre reinforced composite for the automotive brake pad to replace the asbestos. Four alternatives of natural fibre reinforced composite with five criteria have been evaluated by three decision maker. The results of the Fuzzy VIKOR shows that the date palm fibre is selected as the best material for the automotive brake pad

    No full text
This study investigates the influence of process parameter on machined cast iron under varying material strength and cutting conditions. The three process parameters considered in this study are spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut. The cast iron bars were annealed and machined under both wet and dry cutting conditions. The signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio was used to analyze results generated, identify optimal process parameters (factors) and analyze the effect of these parameters on tool-tip temperature. Taguchi design of Minitab 18 was employed to optimize and analyze results. Results shows that the spindle speed was the most significant factor affecting tool-tip temperature reduction, followed by feed rate, while the depth of cut has least role to play on tool-tip temperature. Depth of cut and spindle speed both significantly influenced increment in material removal rate. The annealed cast iron bar had a better surface integrity than the Unannealed sample bars. Conclusively, the preferred condition for machining grey cast iron bar was annealed and wet machining condition

Most of tasks in daily activities are performed by upper-limbs. Physically weak persons such us elderly, injured or disabled person need to perform most of the daily activities with the help of exoskeleton robot. Therefore, various kind of exoskeleton robots have been developed in order to assist the physically weak person in their daily life. The current existing researches related to exoskeleton robot need to solve problems that related to suitable materials which is light and strong and also to work on the portable power supply that could power up the system for a long time independently. The proposed of this research project is to develop an electro-pneumatic powered shoulder orthosis for flexion motion only. This electro-pneumatic powered shoulder orthosis is actuated by a pneumatic cylinder which is placed at the backpack. For technical simplicity, this shoulder orthosis used an external power supply unit. performance analysis is carried out in terms of payload test. This shoulder orthosis need to lift up load (1kg, 2kg, 3kg, 4kg and 5kg) on 45o flexion motion. For each load, this shoulder orthosis need to repeat the test for three times. The time for each complete flexion motion is recorded. All the data is recorded in tables and presented in graphs. It is found from the experiments that the time taken for the cylinder to complete the flexion motion is increasing with load. This is because the cylinder needs to overcome the load as well as the gravitational force in order to complete the 45o flexion motion. As for the velocity, it is decreasing with the increasing of load. This is because, as the load increases, the cylinder becomes slower and it takes some time to complete the flexion motion

A DATA-DRIVEN PID CONTROLLER FOR FLEXIBLE JOINT MANIPULATOR USING NORMALIZED SIMULTANEOUS PERTURBATION STOCHASTIC APPROXIMATION

This paper presents a data-driven PID controller based on Normalized Simultaneous Perturbation Stochastic Approximation (SPSA). Initially, an unstable convergence of conventional SPSA is illustrated, which motivate us to introduce its improved version. The unstable convergence always happened in the data-driven controller tuning, when the closed-loop control system became unstable. In the case of flexible joint manipulator, it will exhibit unstable tip angular position with high magnitude of vibration. Here, the conventional SPSA is modified by introducing a normalized gradient approximation to update the design variable. To be more specific, each measurement of the cost function from the perturbations is normalized to the maximum cost function measurement at the current iteration. As a result, this improvement is expected to avoid the updated control parameter from producing an unstable control performance. The effectiveness of the normalized SPSA is tested to the data-driven PID control scheme of a flexible joint plant. The simulation result shows that the data-driven controller tuning using the normalized SPSA is able to provide a stable convergence with 76.68 % improvement in average cost function. Moreover, it also exhibits lower average and best values for both norms of error and input performances as compared to the existing modified SPSA.A DATA-DRIVEN PID CONTROLLER FOR FLEXIBLE JOINT MANIPULATOR USING NORMALIZED SIMULTANEOUS PERTURBATION STOCHASTIC APPROXIMATIO

Shortage of resources to generate electricity is one of the big issue nowadays. Recently, in Malaysia, electricity is generated from fossil fuels and water flow pressure. However, fossil fuels are facing extinction problem due to the limited production of these sources while flow pressure water also has limitation to supply electricity energy to the residents. Besides, the usage of fossil as energy resources affect the environment. Thus, this research proposed a mini wind turbine as an alternative source to generate electricity for consumer daily usage. The designed generator is developed with different number of blades and the operation is implemented by using arduino. The analysis of the effectiveness of the designed system is measured through different evaluation of produced voltage based on different number of fan blades and wind speed. The result shows that for ideal and simple wind turbine structure, the increment of rotational speed produced higher voltage and current. Thus, the system can be used an alternative source of electricity generator for small-scale individual user

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF RTV-225 SILICONE ELASTOMER AND NATURAL RUBBER BASED THERMO-ELASTOMER FOR SOFT ROBOTIC APPLICATIONS

    No full text
Leveraging on material compliance, soft robots of today are mostly fabricated using silicone elastomers with reported long curing times. Hence, this opens possibilities to explore new materials for fabrication. In this paper, a recently patented natural rubber thermo-plastic elastomer (NRTE) is presented in comparison to RTV-225 silicone elastomer. NRTE inherits a mix of elasto-plastic behavior with ability to be easily formed by heating. Under normal operating conditions, it shows a unique self-healing-like behavior that allows multiple times of reuse. The post processing takes less than 2 minutes to cure. This reduces time to fabricate CiSS and CbSS soft structures. Mechanical properties of both elastomers are reported and compared by performing a tensile strength test. Additionally, this study presents design, fabrication, and testing of CiSS and CbSS simple soft structures which are made of NRTE and RTV-225 elastomers. The results reveal that NRTE has a potential to be used in prototyping of soft robotic structures

Branding has helped Malaysian tourism industry moving forward in this highly competitive world. Till now these Malaysian brands such as Malaysia Truly Asia or Muslim friendly country or Halal friendly country are still relevant but a new perspective toward Malaysia is a need. Thus, this research aimed to offer a new approach of tourism branding that would put Malaysian in the map of the world again. This new approach of branding is a concept of Wizard Khalifa Tourism (WKT). It was introduced to relook philosophically at the role of mankind that man is not a lord on earth but merely as a tourist in this world. In order to be the wizard khalifa tourist, he or she must return to the purpose of man’s creation on earth, as demanded by Allah; the role of khalifa or a vicegerent man. Then, when men have retrieved the understanding of the purpose of their existence in this world; later on, they would act to benefit other helixes in this world in general and in the world of tourism, in specific aspect
