MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF THE PASSIVE AND SEMI-ACTIVE AUTOMOBILE SUSPENSION SYSTEMS IN FORD SCORPIO CAR MODEL
The suspension is a system of spring or shock absorbers connecting the wheels and axles at the chassis of a vehicle. In this study, Ford Scorpio car with passive and semi-active suspension system are formulated using Second Order Differential Equations (ODE). These models were solved analytically using the undetermined coefficient and Cramer rule methods. The comparison between passive and semi-active suspension system also conducted to measure such as displacement, frequency and time by plotting graphs. The passive system resulted that a constant displacement roughly at 0.035 m while 0.025 m was obtained by a semi-active suspension system. Semi-active system took t = 1 s to yield a constant displacement while for the passive suspension system required t = 1.5 s. The comparison showed the semi-active results were better than a passive suspension system

Exergo-economic analysis of performance of a gas turbine power generation system with a solar air preheater
The power generation sector, especially the gas turbine, is one of the most critical sources in order to eliminate greenhouse gases worldwide. In a thermodynamic system, exergo-economic analysis is utilized as a means to specify the inefficient thermo-dynamic points, where the highest loss ofexergy arises. In this paper, engineering equation solver (EES) software and exergo-economic analysis, which uses both the second-law of thermodynamics and economic principles, are utilized to evaluate the economical and exergetical performance of the gas turbine with solar air preheater. The gas turbine without preheating of the air entering the combustion chamber is first investigated. Then, based on three concepts including relative difference, exergo-economic coefficient and exergetic efficiency, a comparison study is performed between the gas turbine with and without solar air preheater. The results clearly reveal that by increasing the inlet temperature of the combustion chamber from 620˚K to 820˚K, the exergy factor increases from 0.41% to 0.68%. Also, the consumption of gas turbine with solar air preheater is reduced from 8.99 kg/s to 7.84 kg/s by raising the inlet temperature of the combustion chamber. As a result, it is noteworthy to express that the exergetic efficiency is increased from 58.4% to 63.4%
FUZZY LOGIC CONTROLLER FOR ACTIVE STEERING CONTROL SYSTEM
The aim of this study is to introduce a fuzzy logic controller for active steering control of a vehicle. A lot of unexpected events might occur on the road due to slippery road condition which can be considered as one of the major factors of accidents. Hence, a nonlinear fuzzy logic observer based active steering controller is proposed that will overcome the disturbances such as wet and icy road conditions and crosswind. The controller has proved that it can stabilize the steering wheel and reduce the time for system to achieve the steady state condition. In the simulations, comparisons are made between the uncontrolled output, Sliding Mode Control (SMC), Sliding Mode Observer Based Controller (SMCO) and Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). It can be seen that Fuzzy controller performance is comparable to SMCO but much better when compared to LQR

Knowledge Of Ergonomics Among Technical Staff In University Technology Mara Penang Malaysia
Ergonomics is the scientific study of human work. Ergonomics knowledge helps in its right application and contributes significantly to the general wellbeing and safety worker’s at the workplace. Even though ergonomics in Malaysia was introduced in 1992, but it is a relatively new concept and yet to be considered an essential component of most enterprises. The aim of this study is to evaluate the level of ergonomics knowledge among technical staff in University Technology MARA (UiTM), Penang Malaysia. A questionnaire was developed and distributed to all technical staff of UiTM and the responses were analyzed using SPSS version 15. The evaluation showed that the score of average mean and standard deviation obtained are 3.16 and 0.96 respectively. The result shows that their level of ergonomic knowledge is moderate. The mean score obtained from the awareness of the effect if the ergonomics aspects are not practiced in the workplace is 4.37 which is a high level. It means that they don`t want to get injured and experience an unhealthy condition in the workplace. Regular ergonomic educations and practices in UiTM are advocated to increase ergonomics knowledge and practice to better leve
FACTORS INFLUENCING SELECTION OF LEAN TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES IN MALAYSIAN ORGANISATIONS
This paper attempts to evaluate 16 factors that should be considered when selecting lean tools and techniques. Lean tools and techniques are typically used to eliminate waste that are produced by defects, waiting time, overproduction, extra motion, extra processing, excess inventory, and unnecessary transportation. The study was conducted in the form of a survey, with data being gathered via purposive sampling. The respondents were chosen based on their involvement in the selection and/or implementation of lean tools and techniques in Malaysia organisations. The respondents were made of practitioners, managers, engineers, executives, consultants, and academics. The surveys indicated that there are ten factors with high agreement levels (>=4.00). These include: (1) Top management’s approval and support, (2) Possible benefits gained after implementation, (3) Aligned with the organisation’s vision, mission and purpose, (4) Aligned with the organisation’s strategic plan and goals, (5) Prove of benefits from other similar organisations, (6) Allocation of resources, (7) Workforce capability, (8) Suitable with the organisation’s culture, (9) Suitable with the organisation’s maturity level, and (10) Suitable with the customers’ and stakeholders’ expectations or requirements. COMPUTER VISION FOR SPLENDID SQUID SIZE AND SPECIES CLASSIFICATION
Thai seafood industry relies heavily on labor intensive work, especially in a classification process. Classifying size and species of splendid squids can be exhausted and prone to errors. This study investigated approaches to automate size sorting of splendid squid and differentiating its species such as L.duvauceli and L.chinensis. Parameters extracted from squids’ images for example, area, width, length and constructive geometries were tested for their significance. As functions of these parameters, classifiers for grading size were developed based on regression analysis and neural network models; a discrimination analysis was employed in species sorting. Neural network at the accuracy of 92.67% was found to marginally outperform the regression model (88% accuracy) in size prediction; however, non-linear regression was recommended in practice due to its simplicity to apply. For species differentiation, the discrimination equation was as accurate as the crisp divider (width over length ratio) at approximately 90%. These computerized approaches in size and species classification were proven to be superior to manual practice; they can overcome limitations of work performance due to individual capability and ergonomic factors
HELICAL MICRO-HOLE DRILLING OF CHEMICALLY STRENGTHENED GLASS USING CAPSULE-SHAPED ELECTROPLATED DIAMOND TOOL
This study investigates the micro-hole drilling performance of chemically strengthened glass plate by using a capsule-shaped electroplated diamond tool and the helical drilling method. Three different helical pitch conditions were tested to drill holes with a diameter of 1 mm. The number of drilled holes, grinding force, and maximum crack size were measured along with the observation of the drilled holes to evaluate the performance of the micro-hole drilling. From the experimental results, it was found that as the size of helical pitch decreased, the number of drilled holes increases where the average grinding force generated becomes smaller. By using small helical pitch condition, 43 holes could be drilled but the maximum crack size generated at the outlet side of the drilled hole is not able to achieve the high-grade quality compared to the inlet side. The resultant grinding force generated when the tool tip nearing the outlet side of the glass plate has caused the large crack at a certain position on the outlet side
