Photographs of the BJC choir... a very important part of music has always been the religious aspect. Many of our students are strongly in-volved in the Jesus movement. They are committed to Christian principles and Christian philosophies. Music is an art, a form of expression that involves the inter-most feelings of a person. When a person begins to study the voice as an instrument they have to understand that they are exposing themselves com-pletely. What is inside will come out. This brings on not only total emotional involvemet but also intel· lectual involvement. We always say that singing is the heart through the mind wherein one transcends the human elements. Something you should learn in the studio is confid-ence and everyone can improve their singing to a degree. It's to the advantage of everyone to study music because you can express yourself through it. You can gain self confidence, the chance to participate in a group activity, and personal enjoyment. I think that most importantly it helps a person to see them· selves. The whole point is for the person to become involved in the creative process. This is what we try to achieve, what many people call a musical experience. We try to get everyone to experience it once on one piece of music and once they have they'll always want to and this makes them set higher goals. Also it broadens them as an individual. Exactly how it does this I don't know. It just seems to open them more. Maybe it lets them see a cornpassionate.side of themselves
