CHEERLEADERS
Bonnie Nelson
" Le+' s really yell now". And with this cry our three pepsters
in green started and finished the 53- 54 athletic season. Through
the icy sleet of fall and winter football games to the heady ex-citement
of basketball, this energetic trio was on hand to lead
the rousing cheers of the fans.
Sometimes they were the only ones yelling, other times they
got a lot of support, and once they forgot a cheer. But all in all
we think they did a tremendous job of it and so our thanks to
Delores, Gayle, and Bonnie.

Dedication in memory of BJC math faculty Charles E. HookIN MEMORIAM
Charles E. Hook
1899- 1956
"---- and congratulate the graduating class from me."
A few hours after thi s request hod been mode, the teacher who mode it and
who so many students fondly called " o. arlie" hod passed away. The next
evening the congratulations that Charles Hook was destined not to give were
conveyed for him by a faculty member to the 1956 graduation closs.
Li ke every great teacher, Chari es Hook stood for all that wa s ri ght and
manly. He was on example of the gentle Christian who spoke ill of none, yet
sow good in all. He helped make men out of the boys who sot in his classes.
What he stood for and believed, rubbed off on his students, and though they
might foil in " moth", they learned well to discriminate between the true and the
fal se, the noble and the shoddy.
And as Charlie's boys succeed in their professions and win places of honor
and respect in the communi ti es where they work and live, they-- as we do who
knew and loved him as one of the faculty-- will cherish the memory and the
privilege of having known Charles E. Hook as a teacher and a friend.

The- Lettermen's Club is organized by award winners in
football, basketball, and track for the purpose of raising
funds to purchase jackets for the members. This is done
mainly through sponsorship of school dances, raffles, and
taking charge of the concessions at BJC home basketball
games. Also, part of their funds was raised this year by
helping to move the merchandise of the J. c. Penney's Store
into their new location. Another of their varied activities
is taking charge of Kangaroo Court for Hobo Daze.
