Intercultural learning in the EFL classroom : a case study of the picturebook My two blankets

    No full text
Research regarding intercultural learning has become more important in recent years due to globalisation. Therefore, this master thesis demonstrates how intercultural learning can be integrated into EFL classrooms with the use of literature. The didactic approach of this thesis centres on the picturebook My Two Blankets, which provides an age-appropriate resource andexplores themes such as language acquisition, cultural adaptation and identity. The activities based on the story encourage students to reflect on the challenges faced by both migrants and foreign language learners. Given today’s diverse society, the book offers valuable insights to individuals, especially students, from all cultural backgrounds. Drawing on Byram’s model ofintercultural competence, the proposed activities promote cultural understanding, language development and literary analysis. Over a time span of five lessons, the focus lies on gradually developing students’ ability to see different perspectives, improve their language skills and foster multimodal literacy. An evaluation of the project has shown that picturebooks offer a useful tool in EFL classrooms to explore certain themes due to their combination of visual and textual elements. The story of My Two Blankets provides valuable insights for both students and teachers, deepening their understanding of multicultural experiences and reflecting on different identities.eingereicht von Lisa-Maria Brüggler, BEdLiteraturverzeichnis: Seite 83-87Masterarbeit Paris Lodron Universität Salzburg 202

Bridging Strategy and Technology: AI's Role in Open Strategy

    No full text
This thesis explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and applications enhance open strategy practices across idea generation, strategy formulation, and implementation. Through an integrative literature review of 66 publications, this study analyzes knowledge of AI's technological landscape, strategic functions, and contributions to openness. The analysis reveals that while AI is often discussed generally, core technologies and applications like machine learning, generative AI, and natural language processing enable diverse strategic and openness-related functions. This research develops the Open Strategy & AI Framework, mapping these technologies and applications as well as their contributions across the strategy process. The framework offers conceptual clarity and practical guidance for navigating AI-enabled open strategy. By identifying key patterns and research gaps, this thesis lays a foundation for future advancements at the intersection of AI and open strategy.

    No full text
This study evaluates indicators from scientific literature according to their suitability for the regional management of the circular economy. The circular economy is supported by policy programmes at both European and national level. Due to the bottom-up approach of the Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP), regional development requires indicators to monitor the transformation to circularity. Indicators should measure progress and provide assistance in elaborating regional strategies for the circular economy. Based on a systematic literature analysis, actions to operationalize the circular economy on a regional level are discussed along the 5 categories of material input and output adaption, material value retention, material flows reduction and supporting activities. Finally, monitoring frameworks and key figures from the literature are evaluated by necessary criteria for regional monitoring. Existing indicators, such as those of the EU Circular Economy Monitoring Framework, do not fulfil essential requirements. Within system boundaries these indicators shoud be delimitable and influenceable, constructable with available data and provide clear informative value. Therefore, the study identifies 10 indicators for 6 different fields of action: construction, mobility, energy, waste management, reuse and education. Nevertheless, indicators should be tailored to the respective circular economy strategy.Diplomarbeit Universität Innsbruck 202

Familial Hypercholesterolaemia and Statin Intolerance – An Exploratory Study

    No full text
AbstractBackgroundStatin-associated muscle symptoms (SAMS) are the most common reason for discontinuing statin therapy. The Rosenson Score assesses the pattern, distribution, and temporal relationship of muscle symptoms associated with statin therapy. The genetically determined familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is characterized by reduced uptake of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) due to a defect in the LDL receptor gene. Both patients with SAMS and FH exhibit elevated LDL-C levels and an increased cardiovascular risk.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to use the Rosenson Score to gain new insights into SAMS and identify possible differences between FH and non-FH patients regarding the fulfillment of the score criteria. The findings aim to enhance the under-standing and management of statin intolerance.Patient Population and MethodsRetrospective and prospective data from 131 patients with hypercholesterolemia complaining of statin intolerance were collected at the lipid clinic of Klinik Hietzing. Patients were divided into two groups based on the fulfillment or non-fulfillment of the Rosenson Score criteria, and subsequently compared. Alongside a descriptive analysis, logistic regression analysis with the Rosenson Score as the dependent variable was conducted.ResultsA high proportion of patients (62.6%) exhibited possible/probable SAMS. LDL-C levels were numerically somewhat higher in patients with SAMS (p = 0.074). High-risk patients rarely achieved their LDL-C targets. There was no significant association between the presence of FH and SAMS.ConclusionManaging patients with SAMS is an important clinical task to reduce their cardiovascular risk. For FH patients with SAMS, establishing alternative cholesterol-lowering therapies is particularly crucial.Abweichender Titel laut Übersetzung der Verfasserin/des VerfassersDiplomarbeit Medizinische Universität Wien 202
