The Entirety of Higher Mathematics in 13 Puzzles
You have been told that mathematics is a vast galaxy, that it sprawls beyond human cognizability, that the last person to grasp even half of its scope was Poincaré, now dead for a century. Lies, all lies! Math is a civilizational wrestling match against a handful of elementary puzzles. Nothing more. I shall humbly introduce these puzzles; the rest of mathematics is left as an exercise for the listener

Parenting Young Children While Coping with a Spouse\u27s Anticipated Death: Evidence for the Dual Process Model of Coping with Bereavement
Following a young parent’s untimely death, family dynamics change as remaining parent and child(ren) endure stress and cope with grief. This research presented 1) addresses a gap in the literature by providing empirical evidence for individual- and family-level restoration-oriented coping (Dual Process Model [DPM]) and 2) presents findings from semi-structured interviews that support the application of DPM with young parenting widows and children and provides implications for professional support
Effect of Glycation on the Binding Interactions of Serum Albumin and Silver Nanoparticles
Nanoparticles are particles ranging from 1-100 nanometers in size. Most nanoparticles, upon contact with biological matrices, are immediately coated with proteins, forming the protein corona, which can alter the structure and function of proteins. Despite the tremendous advancement of nanotechnology over the last decade, the interactions of nanoparticles with proteins are not well characterized. This project investigates the effect of glycation on the binding interactions of HSA, the most abundant protein in human blood, with silver nanoparticles using various spectroscopic techniques. This is important because in diabetic patients, HSA is exposed to high concentrations of glucose over extended periods of time, and approximately 30% of HSA becomes glycated. Circular Dichroism (CD) spectroscopy showed significant changes in the secondary structure of HSA due to glycation. The binding constant (Ka) for AgNPs and HSA with various degrees of glycation was determined with fluorescence quenching titrations. Results indicated a decrease in binding constants for glycated HSA compared to native proteins. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the nature and stability of protein corona formation between glycated protein and silver nanoparticles
More Than Just Coffee
My “This I Believe Essay” from my Honors 120D course reflects on the transformative experience I earned working in customer service. Despite the daily hardships, low salary, and myriad mistakes, I gained key life skills such as empathy, stress management, and effective communication. I contend that everyone should work a job like this to build patience, understanding, and respect for others
In memoriam: Dr. Rodney M. “Rod” Feldmann (1939–2024), Sigma Gamma Epsilon’s longest-serving chapter advisor
The Society of Sigma Gamma Epsilon (SGE), Kent State University (KSU), and the geoscience community lost a loyal supporter, remarkable student mentor, and world-renowned paleontologist when Dr. Rodney M. “Rod” Feldmann died peacefully at home on May 1, 2024, at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife Dr. Carrie Schweitzer (Kent, OH), his daughter Aissa Feldmann (Durham, NC), and his brothers, Frank George (Helen) DuPree (Billings, MT) and Don Keck (Mary Grace) DuPree (Atlanta, GA)
How did creative expression impact advocacy and accessibility for female reproductive freedom during second wave feminism in America?
This paper analyzes how poetry, visual art, and rhetoric have impacted accessibility for female reproductive freedom. The time period is 1960s through the 1990s; referred to as second wave feminism. The feminist art pieces examined are mediums such as poetry, visual art, and rhetoric. To find the implication of these art forms, I inspected each form of art and focused on literary devices, artistic technique, and Aristotle’s method for persuasive language. I conclude that art has a deep emotional, social, and legal effect on society. This art is accessible, conveys a clear point, and is rhetorically complex, which inspired change for abortion accessibility and legality. Art brings together a community through shared motivation to create change in society. This research and analysis shows the need for change in the present with the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade and rapid disappearance to abortion access. We must utilize the opportunity that art gives us and create change for female reproductive freedom today
Lunch & Learn: A Benedictine Approach to Justice
Over winter break, a group of Benedictine Volunteers met in Nairobi, Kenya for an 8-day experience focused on prayer, immersion, and adventure. Join Margaret Nuzzolese Conway, Executive Director of Campus Ministry at Saint John’s, and Logan Lintvedt, Program Director for the Benedictine Volunteer Corps, for a photographic journey of the experience and lessons on a Benedictine approach to justice
