Far-Right Politics and the Disputes over Gender Equality in Brazil
Flávia Biroli has a Master\u27s and PhD in History at Unicamp (Brazil). She is currently a full professor of Political Science at the University of Brasília (UnB), where she has taught since 2005. She was the president of the Brazilian Political Science Association (2018-20), one of the founders of the Brazilian Network of Women Scientists (2021), and a senior researcher for the National Observatory of Women in Politics of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies. She was a member of the international Expert Groups that prepared the reports for the 64th and 65th Commission on the Status of Women of the United Nations (2019 and 2020). She published dozens of articles in Brazilian and international journals, mostly on gender and democracy in Latin America. They present research on women’s political participation, disputes about abortion rights, theoretical debates on autonomy and care, and analysis of the backlash against gender in its connections to the pushback in democracy in the region. She is the author of many books, among them Gênero e Desigualdades: Limites da Democracia no Brasil (São Paulo, Boitempo Editorial, 2018), Gênero, Neoconservadorismo e Democracia (São Paulo, Boitempo Editorial, 2020, with Maria Machado and Juan Vaggione), Feminismo e Política (São Paulo, Boitempo Editorial, 2014, with Luis Felipe Miguel), Autonomia e Desigualdades de Gênero (Niterói, Editora UFF, 2013). Prevalence and Prevention of Pressure Injuries in Residents Over the Age of 65
Pressure injuries are an ongoing problem for people over the age of 65 who have chronic comorbid conditions. Many interventions have been implemented to decrease pressure injuries. Pressure injuries cause pain and can lead to medical issues including sepsis and death. The cost of pressure injuries is high due to the medical complications that result from the pressure injury. Client repositioning is an extremely important intervention to prevent pressure injuries. Risk assessment is also important in order to identify clients at risk to support early interventions. This quality improvement project focused on educating staff and implementing best practices to prevent pressure injuries
Caterpillar, Lobster, X graphs
We studied a combinatorial game played between two players ( Alpha , who goes first, and Beta , who goes second). The idea is that there are a lot of lightbulbs in a large warehouse, and they take turns turning a light bulb on. When a light bulb is turned on, it illuminates the area directly by it as well as the areas immediately surrounding it. The player who is the one to make all of the warehouse illuminated is the winner. This can be modeled on a graph. The two players take turns (1) selecting a vertex that has not yet been illuminated (and (2) coloring that vertex and its immediate neighbors. The last player to move wins. We can vary the game by changing the graph are we playing on. We have been working on this problem all semester, and we will be present on our partial results
Junia the Apostle: History and Future of Women in the Church
The piece sheds light on the identity of the individual mentioned as Junia in Paul\u27s writings to the Romans. Numerous sources, spanning from the Patristics to contemporary academia, shed further insight into her life and character. The more significant question for our times becomes why Junia is less well-known and how she exemplifies a change (though slow) in the Roman Catholic Church\u27s perspective on women
Paul and Gender: Early Reception and Modern Implications
Within Paul’s letters, there is a wealth of theological and ministerial material with a variety of implications and interpretations—what Paul seems to say about the position of women in the Church is the object of much debate. This piece highlights the ways in which Paul displays an openness to greater involvement of women in the Christian movement and a breaking of traditional female gender roles, yet simultaneously upholds rigid boundaries of marked gender distinction, thus mirroring a current stance of the Church today
We Hope: SOT/Sem Midday Prayer Reflection - November 9, 2023
Every week, the faculty, staff, and students of the Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary gather together in common worship for Ecumenical Midday Prayer and Convivium, a shared meal.
